The airline box is quite large. Think a case of wine with 2-3" styrofoam around each bottle. No way can it be caried onto the ship. Heck given the 9" dimension that Andrew gave us - a regular size case (without any of the special packing material) won't fit. Anyone who's bringing a case is going to have to break it down.

You know, you'd think if the packing is good enough for an airline it'd be good enough for the ship. But you never can tell. :confused3 They may make deeper piles of luggage or something.

Andrew - Interesting. I'll discuss it with DH and see how we want to handle it. But, not now - the timing is all wrong. (One must know one's spouse...) ;)

Wonder how everyone else who is bringing a case is managing it??? Andrew - you got any links to those reports where it was discussed?

.

I was one of the ones who posted. On the 2005 EB repo we had a 1/2 case of wine exactly as you describe with the styrofoam insert that holds six bottles. We only had to drive from San Diego to the port so no worries about airline travel; however, it was packaged well enough it could have flown. We checked it in with the porters and were told there would be no problem and no need to carry it on.

Fortunately, I needed to get to our cabin as soon as the rope dropped to decorate for DS birthday. When I arrived I noticed the message light was blinking on the phone. It was someone from the terminal calling to say I needed to come retrieve my box from the terminal or it would not make it on the ship. I went straight to the terminal and the lady told me it was a good thing I had come right away because less than an hour from that time (I think it was around 2:00) I would not have been allowed to disembark.

That is just my story. I know other people have posted they were able to check theirs with the porter, but it did not work out for us.

Also, someone asked about the box, we got ours from Beverages & More and my in-laws always get theirs from a local wine shop.

ETA: Just called BevMo and they have 1/2 case boxes for $9.99

We were just going to buy our wine when we got there. It would save me a boat load of money if I was able to buy it at home. Where did you get the wine box from?

Penny

We got ours at the winery. But, I'd bet you can bet one at BevMo, Mail boxes Etc. (UPS Store), or wine store.

Thanks! I think we'll figure out how to carry it on rather than risk loosing it.

Yeah... We were like "Don't go to commercial in the middle of the fireworks!" and they did... Why did they think we wouldn't want to see that? And there was some other stuff that we missed due to commercials too. Geez they edited it later! They could've done commercials so we didn't miss anything. Though it was already 4+hours long...

I kept thinking don't these people know that China does fireworks like no one else!!!///!! :confused3

That will probably be me - we have a flight at 6:50am EST on the 17th
Now everyone subscribe to this thread so that we can find it again when we return ;)

We leave at 6:40 CST! LOL! And I think that Nutty4Disney leaves even later CST.......

Well, that's a pain in the patoot. Pack it all up nice an secure in a special box for the airport gorrillas, and then unpack it and carry it on unsecurely for the ship. Pthththt. We're bringing a case of wine. DH is gonna love that. Wonder how big our rolling cooler is.

Andrew - so you mean that if we leave it in the airline packing and clearly mark it - they'll take it as baggage?

.

That's what I was thinking!!! UGH!!!!

Steph, I feel the same way! I am the one who booked it, pack everything, and feel very responsible if something doesn't go the way it should. Oh well, I just need to relax and know that I did my best and yes, sometimes things do happen. My stomach has been bothering me off and on lately and I think it is some anxiety about the trip even though I am very excited. I'll just keep popping tums!;)

I also understand completely what Bip is saying about her DD always hurting herself. Mine will be at cheer camp right up until we leave on Wednesday and I keep telling her, please be careful. We are heading right from camp to the airport...no time for a doc in the box stop!:upsidedow

It makes me feel better knowing that I am not the only one...And Mylanta is so much better then Tums. ;)
Lots of pixiedust: for your dd!!!

I'm finishing up my FE gifts, and I'm stressing a bit. We came across a pretty cool gift at an unbelievable price early on, so we bought 100 of them, which we thought would be enough. The FE list has grown to well over 100, so we don't have enough of that gift to go around. We came up with something else for the same cost, but it doesn't have the same WOW factor. The only fair way we came up with to distribute them was to go back to Julie's FE list where there 99 cabins listed, and give the first gift one per family to the first people who signed up. We will still give something to every family(just no way to tag that one), and we also have something for each pirate, so we're not trying to stiff anybody. I just don't want anyone to feel slighted and wonder why they didn't get the first gift. I hope everyone is OK with this. :goodvibes

Believe no one will feel slighted! :goodvibes It doesn't matter what is in the FE it is just so much fun to check it! LOL! The kids love checking it -- of course 7dd thinks everything is for her! LOL!

Check to0 see if you have a 'New Club World' equipped plane, not the old verison, AFAIK, the transition's still rolling out across the fleet. Even so, the old one is still way nicer than cattle class. Back in the height of the Dot Com boom, we flew First Class on BA from SFO to LHR (and back) - now that was nice. Crazy expensive but nice.

EDIT: Never mind, the the whole fleet has been done - that'll teach me not to fly back to the UK since December of '07.

Andy

I have NEW CLUB WORLD on the way out and 'May' have the old one on the way back from MCO, not every plane done.

Me too. I feel responsible for packing everything- and the right everything-
and making sure everything goes smoothly. The upside is I love it when I hear what a great job I did. That's why we travel with my parents. They actually appreciate everything I do. ;)

It is nice when they appreciate all the effort! DH makes sure the kids know it is all because of me. :goodvibes

I remember being about 21 when I realized that my parents were indeed very intelligent. I was talking to my niece a while ago, she just got married last year, and I said to her something to the effect that "don't your parents seem smarter the older you get"? She so totally agreed. When we are younger and especially during the teen years we think our parents don't know anything

SO true! :lmao: I have told many a teenager *I'm not nearly as stupid as you think I am!* :rotfl2:

I recently lost my $200 Revo sunglasses. I got so mad at myself I replaced them with $12.99 Target sunglasses and convinced myself I was happy. At the pool yesterday I tried on my friends pair of sunglasses and they were SOOO much more clear then mine so now I am on a sunglass quest today.
I HATE buying sunglasses. :sad2:

I tried to find new ones yesterday -- dh & I went shopping for a couple of hours... I need sunglasses with readers built it......I've never bought prescription sunglasses and now it is too late...my other sunglasses fell and the frame broke. :sad2:
I did find out that Brighton's sunglass frames are Optical ready so....I can buy a pair there and then take them to get my prescription put in...
The only *readers* sunglasses I found were way too ugly and had rhinstones on them.

Bip, I have got to say I think my Alana and your Ruby are going to get along just perfectly! :lmao:
I hope her toe and hair recover quickly and the toe doesn't cause too many problems on the TOAL.

Just a drive by posting while I sit at Beach Bum Beauty Salon. Having a cut and new color. Went with a bit lighter color and highlights in April. Everyone liked it but I just couldn't get used to it myself. This time I'm going darker. We'll see how it turns out.

After I'm done here it's shopping, laundry and packing. Picked up my dress last night and some books for the exchange. Dress looks good but I'm starting to question if giving up my shawl was the best thing. Too late now. I am SO not ready to leave on Tues after work!

Oh.... not sure if anyone mentioned it or not. I ordered my rum and other necessities from albertsons.com and am having them delivered to the GC. If you sign up for their preferred card, they'll email you the number and you can use it online. I saved enough to cover the $10 delivery charge, tax, and still save $5.

Happy Packing All!

Thanks, I think I will have them deliver to the hojo. I already have the card which they stopped using here in Fl.

Part 1 the offical line from DCL is carry on, with you,
but lots of reports from West coast cruises, on part 2 the porters do take if its clearly labled and secure and you do not need to carry it around on embarkation.

Usually we just put the water onthe bottom of DHs scooter and wheel it onboard. This time I wonder how we will do it.??

For those of you with wounded toes. They sell a foam bandage roll you cut off the length you need and place it over the toe. It helps a bit. I think it was with the Dr Schols stuff.

Reports from West coast cruisers are the Port and Porters at LAX, are more flexible than the DCL policy, but the No1 Rule do not put it in your luggage!
If you have it seperate and its clear what it is, they seam to be taking it.

Cool. We'll be heading back to Wales for Xmas, but will probably fly in World Traveller Plus seats.

Andy

Nice,

This is my first time in New Club world, it I did BA in 2007, and did Club Europe but thats nothing like this, before that I have flown Upper Class with Virgin, and I presume this seat will be very like their UC seat/bed.

I noticed today for the flights I have booked, there online price is £23k thats $46k, if booked now.

M, I finally found which file the image you are wanting is in - I knew I had it because I printed it on one of our magnets! LOL!

I've had someone ask me if we'll have our SPOT tracking device with us, and tracking the Magic. And if so, can they piggy back and let their family have the site to track from?

The answer to both is YES! It's one of the reasons I put the information out there for everyone. We will have SPOT on, zip tied to the railing or something, and will take it on our excursions. You are very welcome to send folks to the site for the tracking information. The easiest way to get the URL is through my blog... http://EsterisWanderings.blogspot.com . The link is at the top of the left side column.

.

That's very cool....but kind of scary too...may not want some people knowing where we are :lmao:

I agree w/others, noone will feel slighted or probably even know. I'm more concerned about the possibility of STs helping themselves to the FE gifts.

Now you are in New Club World, rest of family in coach?

Cruise related Question for
Aruba Jolly Pirates:

What do we need to bring with us for this tour? I have a printed out email with a "trace code". Is that enough, or am I missing a confirmation of some sort?

Thanks!
