He loves it...in his case the cost was worth it because he has to read a lot of books fo rhis work which normally run hardback approx 50-60 each...so uploading them into the unit works for him..for me it wouldnt be worth it..i love the used bookstore where I get my books for .50 each :)

It's funny how technology is impacting some of my book/media habits. I used to collect DVD's, but I stopped buying them when I got a Netflix subscription - why buy when I know I can get most any video within a day or two? I'll probably be dropping my HBO/Showtime subscriptions when I get back for the same reason - I can just rent the DVD/series a few months after it's on the air.

Clearly I'm moving the same way in terms of books. Normally I would never dream of disposing of a book (my library is... rather large). But the 10 or so books that I'm bring with me won't come home. If I really like any of them enough to keep, I'll just buy a replacement.

The world keeps changing and it's sometimes tough to reevaluate my own best practices in the context of the new world....

Kindle is showing in-stock on Amazon for $359. I do hear it's pretty good - but $359 pays for a lot of paperbacks.....

Amazon has them at $359 - but w/tax = almost $400!! and that doesn't include shipping.
That's why I went to eBay - and still spent alot.

However, I travel alot and now w/so many restrictions - including weight - I thougt this might be the way to go. DD Lori's boss got one and Loves it. I have to read to survive - have to have books for the TOAL and the 5-Day B to B cruise and -----
And I'll get it before I leave for LA - soooo I guess I've rationalized fairly well don't ya think!!!!!

I completely understand...we buy songs for our IPODs because we dont care for the entire album..I too have Netflix so we hardly every purchase a movie...and my books all come from the friends of the library bookstore. After I read them I usually return a large bag back so they can resell them. However, the books I am taking this time..I will leav ebehind..mostly for room in the suitcase but hoping someone else will enjoy them as well.

I think it works for you! and you have to save room for the wine! :rotfl2:

I love to read as well. My problem is - if it's a good book I don't want to put it down - which means - no house cleaning - no laundry - no nothin'! It will take me about 2 days to finish a good book.

Oh yeah. The worst one in recent memory for me was Harry Potter & the Deathly Hollows. Purchased about midnight. Home by 12:30. Finished about 7:00am. Slept until about 1pm. Read it again.

In November I get to read it again (movie marathon, followed by the midnight showing of Half Blood Prince, followed by reading of Deathly Hallows). That is, assuming I don't just go ahead and reread the entire series again.

Sigh - they don't make enough books that are that good....

I think if you're a frequent traveler it makes a lot of sense. I don't travel as much.
What state are you in? I didn't realize Amazon charges sales tax in some states and not others?

Ebay is very dangerous!

Some of your FE gifts came from Ebay! I got a great deal on year old chocolate..only .2 a piece! :rotfl:

Yep, I'll abandon them up in Cafe Cove for other passengers or the crew to enjoy.
I rarely purchase CD's anymore. Just individual songs as needed. The only CD I buy regularly is the latest Capitol Steps album every year.
