OK here is my blonde moment/question of the day:

Do the quakes just happen at any time or are there "seasons" for them?

Well we will not know until the day, but I would guess it would be very similar to 2005, We started at 6.00am then and didn't finish to past 7pm, I was in Lumière's for dinner when we we going down the Gatan Locks.

As the schedule is very long and very tight, and DCL book's this well in advance, I would have thought there isn't much of an option to move anything forward or back. We hopfully will get to Gatan Earlier, now that the Magic has been through three times, they should have it off to a fine art.

In an emergency, txt is the way to go, smaller packets push through the system when phone calls can't get through.

The phones being down may just be overload as opposed to damage.

Thanks...I figured but unfortunatly..it's one of those things 11 year old freak out about when they hear...there have been 3 3.8 aftershocks...

Decreasing magnitude indicates aftershocks and not foreshock

The only reference point we have is the 2005 E/bound repo times, the W/Bound this year started at the same 'early' time, but did clear the canal quickly.

Laura is saying there are alot of aftershocks right now. No phone service where she is. She is shaking.....April is with her. They are on 2nd floor of dr. office. Said building is shaking.

Looks like it wasn't too bad. DL is inspecting all the rides and intends to reopen quickly.

Honestly, aside from flying cross country this is something I have thought about never being in CA before. Lots of people tell us that they don't know how we deal with the hurricanes. I would rather have the warning with enough time to evacuate. I would be totally freaking out. to everyone, especially those with kids who are understandably frightened right now. I will think about all of you today and pray that things settle down very soon.

My best suggestion right now to everyone - turn off CNN. It's just going to stress you out.

They are in the "we will broadcast what any idiot says as gospel fact" mode now.

Turn it off, enjoy the sunshine.

It's actually a really good question. When you think about it, most every other type of natural disaster does come in seasons.

Unfortunately, (or fortunately, depending on your perspective), California has no seasons (at least compared to pretty much everywhere else). And that applies to earthquakes as well. They happen at any time with no notice.

It was really emphasized after Katrina, we couldn't call "the troops" on the ground, but txt was going well.

A number of businesses are looking at txt as a way to notify and contact employees after a disaster.

I was reading the Disneyland boards and the Disneyland hotel was evacuated, they had some concerns. GCH is fine as recently built, but they are checking out the DLH, hope its ok for me in a few weeks.

We deal with a tornado but at least we have warning. A hurricane you get several days warnings and time to evacuate . Earthquakes I would be freaking too!!

I agree. People say well you live where there are tornados, but most times we have notice on the TV or just by looking at the sky.

OMG! Isn't that the truth. Everyone wants thier 15 minutes of fame even if they don't know what they are talking about!

I'm not going to tell dd unless someone at day camp beat me to it. Last time a school mate had dd half scared to death that we were going on the Titanic!

One of the good things about earthquakes in California, is they have increased building codes to make things safer over the years.

If you were wondering what to do, FEMA offers the following (note that doorways is not a favored option anymore):

What to Do During an Earthquake

Stay as safe as possible during an earthquake. Be aware that some earthquakes are actually foreshocks and a larger earthquake might occur. Minimize your movements to a few steps to a nearby safe place and stay indoors until the shaking has stopped and you are sure exiting is safe.

If indoors

• DROP to the ground; take COVER by getting under a sturdy table or other piece of furniture; and HOLD ON on until the shaking stops. If there isn’t a table or desk near you, cover your face and head with your arms and crouch in an inside corner of the building.
• Stay away from glass, windows, outside doors and walls, and anything that could fall, such as lighting fixtures or furniture.
• Stay in bed if you are there when the earthquake strikes. Hold on and protect your head with a pillow, unless you are under a heavy light fixture that could fall. In that case, move to the nearest safe place.
• Use a doorway for shelter only if it is in close proximity to you and if you know it is a strongly supported, loadbearing doorway.
• Stay inside until shaking stops and it is safe to go outside. Research has shown that most injuries occur when people inside buildings attempt to move to a different location inside the building or try to leave.
• Be aware that the electricity may go out or the sprinkler systems or fire alarms may turn on.
• DO NOT use the elevators.

If outdoors

• Stay there.
• Move away from buildings, streetlights, and utility wires.
• Once in the open, stay there until the shaking stops. The greatest danger exists directly outside buildings, at exits, and alongside exterior walls. Many of the 120 fatalities from the 1933 Long Beach earthquake occurred when people ran outside of buildings only to be killed by falling debris from collapsing walls. Ground movement during an earthquake is seldom the direct cause of death or injury. Most earthquake-related casualties result from collapsing walls, flying glass, and falling objects.

If in a moving vehicle

• Stop as quickly as safety permits and stay in the vehicle. Avoid stopping near or under buildings, trees, overpasses, and utility wires.
• Proceed cautiously once the earthquake has stopped. Avoid roads, bridges, or ramps that might have been damaged by the earthquake.
