In an emergency, txt is the way to go, smaller packets push through the system when phone calls can't get through.

The phones being down may just be overload as opposed to damage.

They are overloaded..thats all...

Ugh..they just announced it could be a foreshock (I know they always say that)...DD upset...she hasnt gone thru to many

They said that there has been more then a dozen aftershocks...

DH is on the 16th floor...says it really moved in Burbank.

Ok..I have to fill out some paperwork and get out the door to pick up DD school books..

Just checked our backyard..our concrete slab cracked and lifte

OK pulled out my bill from May, here is what I was charged: Remember this is only for phone calls. International texting was a flat rate of $0.50 cents pr text.

On sea: $2.49 for incoming

Charges in Mexico: $0.59/minute - (areas showed up as Acapulco,
Guadalajara & La Paz which would coincide with Acapulco, Puerto Vallerta, Cabo.)


Charges in Aruba: $1.69/minute (Only phone calls - e-mailing, roamin is another story)

Bahamas: $1.99
Panama: $1.99 minute

This time, I got service but because I turned off data roaming, I did encounter some trouble with texting and receiving phone calls but only in port. I always had service (except for certain locations on the ship) but sometimes could not get a clear signal. Once I turned on Data roaming, things cleared up.


I'm sure since I got signal in all those spots, then I'll have signal in Cartegena. I can check but I'm still pretty happy with my iphone.

According to USGS on CNN, only a 5% chance its a foreshock, so your daughter shouldn't be worried

OK Ray! This is one thing that really freaks me out. My dad went through the Tehachapi earthquake in 1952 and moved back to MI after that. So bite your tongue Ray!

Personally I am not telling my kids. Disney has a tenancy to change things at the last minute and I wouldn't want them disappointed. I figured if they will definitely be there then it will be a huge surprise for them

I was told by JF's spouse that it was Aly and A.J. I, of course, could not get any confirmation from anyone. BUt then again, they wouldn't confirm the engine trouble either! However, she did make it seem as if there were other tweeners entertainment scheduled too.

So, they did not "ask" our resident celebrity to join us. Instead, they will be kicking him off come tomorrow. That just sounds so weird. They did announce who would be on here right? Ally & A.J. God, please don't let it be HM. NOT A RUMOR FOLKS, just a hope. However, this Ally & A.J. came from the resident's spouse. Seems my son (Andrew - its that name I tell you - Andrew just is a pain in the behind ) struck up a "loo" conversation and it turns out that this was trip was originally planned. I didn't believe him so I set out to find out the truth. Turns out, he was telling the truth, also JF is a huge Star Wars hogger as in the arcade game. My son tried to play but JF outlasted him and he gave up after 45 minutes. Finally, another smart add outsmarting another smart add.

Thanks...I figured but unfortunatly..it's one of those things 11 year old freak out about when they hear...there have been 3 3.8 aftershocks...

I think it wasn't as bad as I first thought ...but took a long time...no pohone servce here for regular phone or cell even..computer works..thats all

Disneyland just announced they evactuated everyone from all of the rides

We're ok...kids are scared. I tried to explain the idea of after-shocks so that they would be ready next time. And my DD says...there's going to be more? Then she started to whine.

Weird thing...my FIL just called from MN, said it's all over the news. I was a little surprised by that.

Haven't had a jolt like that for quite a while

lots of evacuations going on, on the news...but most are your typical required evacuations for safety reasons.
First time in a while I've sent kids to the bathroom doorway....we actually had a few german beer steins fall, so when I hear anything breaking, I know its bigger then the usual jolts. Also lost cel phone service for a while too.

So - true story: I was a high school senior and had a friend from Louisiana staying over. That night there was an earthquake at about 3 or 4 in the morning (about a 4 magnitude). The next morning he was completely freaked out. Not just by the earthquake, but by my reaction (which I didn't even remember). When it happened, he jumped up, and supposedly I just rolled over and told him "go back to sleep, it's just an earthquake".

By then I'd already been through a few small ones, so I guess I was just jaded.

Keep in mind that construction in California takes earthquakes into account. A 5.4 is scary, but it's not likely to do any major damage. Also, distance from the earthquake is not a good predictor of damage - it's very easy for damage to be worse farther from the epicenter depending on the type of ground, the type of construction (age of buildings), and the way the ground waves move.

I was in the Loma Prieta quake of 89, and it was one of the scariest things I ever exprienced (when they tell you to get under a doorway during a quake, they don't mention that you might not be able to stay on your feet).

My best suggestion right now to everyone - turn off CNN. It's just going to stress you out.

I am with at&t/cingualer on the website you can actually look up the info do a search for roaming or cruise lines and you should be able to get the info..I have tried but it won't let me choose my device!
