All this talk about motion sickness... Have you guys seen the Mythbusters about it? The only thing that they tried that worked was the ginger root.

We love Myth Busters. It is great when the kids are happy to watch an educational show (which is funny!!) and not even know it.:rotfl:

I am rarely sea sick, so I am hoping to not have to use anything (but I will bring something just in case)

OK, that's it. I'll be dining in shorts and a tank top on TOAL. I went shopping tonight. It didn't end well.

Bellis Fair - you must be near Bellingham. I love Bellingham, spent a bit of time there. Colophon Cafe & Mugga Mocha Moo.

I understand the whole shopping thing. I went to get some new shorts last week and one size was snug, but the size up was too big. I guess I'll have to work harder and hope they have some shorts left before I go.
We are a bit of a drive/ferry ride from Bellis Fair, but not too far. We have actually never been to that mall.

I saw your book list last night, have you read Peony In Love? I can't remember the author at the moment, but it was a good book. I read it in May for my book club. Would anyone be interested in doing some kind of book club book for the cruise? Maybe a chat by the pool on a sea day one day?

dahuffy - As a dog lover you would appreciate this story. Today I took our 1 yr old Min. Schnauzer to the vet for vac. Her name is Belle. A few minutes after I left the vet, Belle threw up so I stopped to clean the van. When I got back into the van, she collapsed on the seat. I rushed her back to the vet. They rushed her to the back and started working on her. She had gone into anaphylactic shock! After much care, she is home recovering now.

It must have been the day for that. I'm so sorry about your dog. I'm glad she is ok. My son and I went to get our allergy shots yesterday, and I had the same problem. After an epi-pen, and a bunch of other medication, they let me go about 1 hour later. Not fun and I was half out of it the rest of the day. That is the 3rd time that has happened to me over a period of years and I hate it.

Just got an email from Chris (GrandmaX3) live from the Magic. She's having a good time but has discovered she doesn't like inside cabins. Says it's been chilly since leaving LA, but Cabo was nice. They are on their way to Mazatlan tonight.
glad to hear she's having fun...but too bad about the inside cabin. i really hope we do ok with an inside one. we did have one aloooong time ago on our honeymoon...but that was just for a 3 day cruise. keeping fingers crossed we do ok with it!

My DS 12, had tubes put Back In, a few weeks ago. He had them in for 6 years and finally had them taken out last Dec to heal for our Feb cruise, he did great but the fluid built back up, so we had them put back in and his adenoids taken out at the same time. Much Better!!! His hearing is way better (although selective at times) and even his speach is very clear now.
The hardest part is our hosp. has a parent go in the OR with the kids 'till they're KO'd.... I've alsways been the parent of choice for my son. This kills me each time to watch him go under. Hopefuly this is the last. It's a minor operation the doctor says, Not to us! we don't do these everyday like they do, it's a big deal for us.
Glad to hear everything worked out, the ear plugs are a pain but so worth it.
J got lime green so they're noticable in the water if one pops out.
Jack

wow! that is crazy....i can't imagine having to go back to the O.R. with the kids! that would kill me. it was hard enough watching the boys be wheeled away in the bed! we are hoping that oldest ds ears will improve with this. it was crazy how fast his hearing was blocked this time around. he is 10 yrs old...and seriously has been in for tubes about 7-8 times. it's about once a year. he had the last set removed last year and as soon as it was done...he got an infection! i was so flustered...i just could not believe the doc even took them out! he usually lets them fall out on thier own..but not that time! ds ended up with infection after infection this winter...so in he went...and hopefully now his hearing will return to normal. funny about the green earplugs...that is what we have too! LOL!! both of the boys had to get a pair...and we were hoping they would have diff colors to pick from...last time they did....but not this time. only green!

i wanted to say thanks to everyone for thinking of us during this time. thanks for the well wishes! we are on the mend...and now i just need to get back to planning for the trip!
hope everyone has a great day!!

You are quite talented! You already know what is happening in the future!

Does anyone know how much it costs to do a load of laundry on the Magic? We didn't use it last time, so I need an idea of how much change to bring.:confused3

$1 for the washer, $1 per cycle on the dryer. Many times it takes more than one cycle.

Speaking of laundry, I still haven't found Dropps. I tried Super Wal-Mart, Target and Bed Bath and Beyond, but nobody had them. I did see small packages of Tide(2 wash size) at Target for .99. I might just pick those up instead.

Yes, when I read that post, I messed up a couple of things. That is what happens when I try to type and my son is talking to me at the same time. I am all-knowing.....:rotfl:

BTW, when does your oldest ds and Samantha leave for WYD2008, again? Please give them my best and tell them to tell Benedict I said "hi" :wave2: :goodvibes . I will keep them in my prayers.

This will be ds's third year for Catholic Youth Summer Camp. He absolutely loves it! One night they have Benediction and Adoration on the beach (at a lake) and after Confession they place a candle on the altar and pray silently for a couple of hours. Believe it or not, this is just about every campers favorite night of the week. There is no doubt in my mind he would love WYD. Did Samantha go last year as well?

When dh found out I was doing VBS again this year he told me that he thought I had said I wasn't going to volunteer this year... I told him it didn't count as volunteering when the person running it is a friend and she tells me that she can't get anyone else to do it.... :headache:

They leave this Sunday. We are going to miss her so MUCH!!! The last time they had a WYD was a few years ago... i think in Germany. She wasn't old enough. This is the first year in a long time that she didn't go to Catholic summer camp (thepines.org). She was too old. If she hadn't had WYD this summer she was going to apply to be a C.I.T. and then try to work there next summer.
We are hoping that 10ds & 7dd will get a chance to go there next summer.
I'm going to let dd & ds know that you will be praying for them and for them to keep you/your family in their intentions.

We have our VBS in one and a half weeks.

As of today (deadline for registration was yesterday), we have 215 children registered, 37 of them pre-schoolers!

Thanks for the info..I will make sure we have lots of quarters....I didn't realize that the laundry wasn't to far from our cabin...

Good morning/afternoon all! We are off to buy some fireworks for the festivities on Friday and then taking Tori to the American Girl movie that comes out today. Have a great afternoon!

:sad2: Goodness, the Cinderella crack makes ever so much more sense. M Dear, come on over here with me. We need to chat....

Maybe that's why we're both so grumpy today. :rolleyes1

We love Myth Busters. It is great when the kids are happy to watch an educational show (which is funny!!) and not even know it.:rotfl:

Best line ever in Mythbusters (and used often in our house):

"I choose to reject your reality and substitute my own."

I hate clothes shopping! Always have. I would never go shopping with friends, even in high school. It makes me grumpy. I think part of the problem now is that I can't find anything that isn't too young looking or too frumpy.
It's either/or. There is no middle ground. Oh and to make matters worse...and hopefully without TMI...I discovered yesterday that Victoria's Secret has stopped making my favorite...ummm...well, you figure it out.

Hmph.

Thanks for the book suggestion. I haven't heard of it before.

Well that's no fun. I hope DS is better now.

My kids have had 3 surgeries combined in 3 different hospitals & a parent was allowed/encouraged to go back each time. They always ask for DH. As my mom used to say: "Mom does all the work, Dad gets all the glory."

Of couse after DS8's surgery when he was 2 he wanted me. Constantly. Like I had to physically be touching him at all times for 2 weeks or he would scream. Not fun on so many levels.

Speaking of laundry, I still haven't found Dropps. I tried Super Wal-Mart, Target and Bed Bath and Beyond, but nobody had them. I did see small packages of Tide(2 wash size) at Target for .99. I might just pick those up instead.

That's what I'm using.
I started buying incidental stuff a few weeks ago so I don't have to make a $200 trip to Target the day before we leave.

Thanks Tracy and Andrew. Great info. I copied it over on the Pirate Zone for easier reference.

:
hi everyone! i havne't been on in a few days! hope everyone had a great weekend. mine was very stressful! my boys went to the hosp last friday to get the tubes put in their ears. youngest ds fared pretty well fri, but the anesthesia knocked the older one for a loop! he had the procedure done at 8am...with very little anesthesia...and he was still throwing up when he went to bed that nite! i felt awful for him!! youngest ds was hit harder the next day. he had his adenoids done also..and the pain got to him on saturday. the pain meds make him very whiny and loopy...so it's been a difficult past few days! we also had a yard sale on saturday. i mistakenly thought i would have time to work on pricing things on friday...but that never got done due to ds's not being well! so...i stayed up late on friday nite with the intentions of pricing sale stuff. i decided to check emails at one point, and when i got online, i started chatting with an old freind....and we ended up staying up all nite chatting...i never went to bed! not what i needed to do when i ws short on sleep anyways!
oh well...things are settling down now...so i can finally check back in here! has there been any more info on the busses from hojo to the port? any other imp info i should know about? i guess i'd better go check out the pirate board...and try to get caught back up!
have a great nite everyone!

:grouphug: glad to hear they are on the mend!!! Pixie dust for you all:wizard: !

Yes, it was the shots. She had two so they are not sure which one she reacted to. Next time they said they will pretreat her and then watch her for a couple hours afterward. It was very scary. I was glad the boys were not with me. I was not sure what was going on. It was at PetSmart so I could see through the glass and there were 3 nurses and a doctor working on her. The nurse came out and said they were trying to stabilizer her. She stayed there most of the day. When I went to Starbucks after I left her there, as I was paying, they asked me if I was having a good day. I started to cry and said no and told her why. She gave me my money back and said my drink was on her - which made me cry more!

She is better but I won't feel better for a few more days when I stop having to give her Benadryl.

I will let you know how she is doing in a few days. Thanks to all!

:grouphug: and :wizard: !!! Hope she is better soon. Something similar happened to our cat. They gave him 3 or 4 at once. We left to go to work the next day, came home and realized he hadn't moved all day and was totally lethargic. Luckily, he survived!!!! Hope you are both having a better day today!

Hello everybody!!! :grouphug: and :wizard: to all who need it! Happy Birthday to all recent birthday people!!!!

The book talk: I am planning to bring the new Sedaris - if I can wait that long!!!! Am hoping to get through Jimmy Buffet's "A Salty Piece of Land" before TOAL so I can contribute it to the book exchange!!! Just finished "Kite Runner" and have "A Thousand Splendid Suns" lined up!!!! DD and I just finished reading "Kingdom Keepers" again - the sequel comes out this fall!!!!

If anyone likes light fantasy, I highly recommend "The UNicorn Chronicles" by Bruce Coville - book three comes out in August. Both DD10 and I loved it. This is kind of a plug - Coville grew up down the road from me!!!

I can't wait to find out who my SM is (no rush!). I have been buying up smaller things as I find them, but want to see who I get to buy the more substantial stuff!!!!! I really need to get going on FE exchange - have ideas, but have to get shopping.

I am also having trouble in the shopping for clothes dept - between that and the luggage, I will double up a bit more than I had originally planned!!!

I always bring rolls of quarters for laundry, but always forget to take them out at security!!!! Thankfully the TSA people have been forgiving!!!

hope everyone has a great day!!

glad things are going better now. It is very stressful to see our kiddo's go thru tough things like that. continued prayers for a quick and full recovery!!

I just picked up those Tide packs at Target the other night. Then I wondered if I made a mistake buying liquid instead of powder...in case it breaks open or something - yikes!

In the mail yesterday my DH received a jury summons.....1st date to appear....8/15/08!! rofl....what are the chances of that???

Pirate Roll Call!

Just a reminder that if you want to be listed in the Pirate Roster for our TOAL, sign up on the thread over on the Pirate Zone. Also, if you are one of the many GTY status pirates sleeping in the lifeboats or the chairs on Deck 4, if you happen to get a cabin assignment, please make sure that you put a new post on that thread so that we can update your info.

I'll be making up a list and a map, combined with the Fish Extender Exchange listing. I need to get it sent off to M so she can include it in the Print-It-Yourself documents that she is working on. (Pirates' Navigator, Kids' Journal pages, etc). So please make sure that if you are interested you are signed up and your cabin number is updated, if you have one by then, by July 28.

Since it is going to be combined with the Fish Extender exchange list, please make sure if you signed up and are still GTY, that when you get your cabin assignmnets, you also PM bellelinus (Julie). She's still the keeper of the FE list, I'm just pirating her info!
