8/10/2008 - Mexican Party Cruise - Who's Here??

Sorry I've been AWOL, guys. There's a strong chance my DH won't be able to make this vacation and I don't know what we're going to do at the moment. I hope to be with you but TBH it's feeling less and less likely... :(

Dear Karen,

I hope things work out in the best way under the current circumstances.
Here's another pixie dust pixiedust: & hugs :grouphug:

[/COLOR]Dear Custard,
:wizard: I hope all changes for you and hope DH is able to make it. Thoughts are with you and I hope to be meeting you soon.:wizard: :flower3:

JD99: I cannot find my list :confused3 can you please resend so I have all the room numbers. Thank you Becky

I was waiting for the last couple of room numbers. It's on my other laptop which is in getting a new drive put in so I should be able to send it tomorrow or the next day.

Karen, I hope everything is ok and works out for you.. If I remember you had to cancel the next year trip also. Take Care...

The quake was centered about 8 miles from my home. We lost a few pictures and candle sticks. My poor kids were in the pool at swim lessons when it hit. There were waves in the pool by the end. It was a "good" one. That's a native Californian's way of saying we definitely felt it. So far, not too much damage. This one was really close to us and that's why I think we felt it so much. I know there are others in this group equally close to the epicenter. I hope they have little to no damage. No injuries or anything like that. Mostly rattled nerves.

I am very glad you are all ok...I never even thought about worring about earthquakes! I have been watching for hurricanes (being in Texas I am used to those though) but the thought of a earthquake never crossed my mind...I hope everyone is ok there, from what I have seen online it seems to be ok...pixiedust:

Personally, I think a hurricane is worse but I wouldn't know first-hand. With earthquakes there is no warning. Don't worry, we usually don't have two big ones back to back. You MIGHT and I mean MIGHT feel a baby aftershock. Those basically feel like a big truck going by. Please don't worry. I think you will miss most aftershocks.

Thanks so much for all your good wishes. :grouphug: We've had a talk about the situation and DH has said that he can realistically only be available for one week of our vacation sooo we've decided that he'll be on the cruise with DS and I!!! :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: Thank goodness!!! DS and I will do the LA week together after DH returns to London... To say I'm relieved is a flippin' understatement! BUT let the countdown re-commence!!! :cool1: :cool1: :cool1:

We're probably about just as close (as the crow flies). I haven't been home to see if we have any damage but I'm sure it's nothing serious. We got a nice ride in Anaheim and were evacuated from our building for nearly 3 hours. There is some minor damage, but nothing structural. That seems to be consistent with the reports I have seen...lots of items falling off the grocery store shelves but no buildings crumbling. :thumbsup2

Disneyland shut down their rides for inspection but CNN was reporting that the inspection was completed by 2pm. I'm sure it was business as usual after that.

I just found a Google map so I put in directions from our house. We are approximately 6 miles from the epicenter. :scared1: I think I'm going to check out the house before we go to the pool tonight.

re the earthquake felt 2 jolts, 1 small & 1 unconfortable one but no aftershocks at all.

karen, very glad to hear that you can make it, even though i am waitlisted for cat 3!! (just kidding!)

jeff, i meant to respond sooner, hope this info is still useful. my DD (10) and her friends really like Universal Studios. i have a coupon for $15 off up to 6 people. i could mail it to you, or bring it to the boat, or maybe you could check the internet to see if they have a similar deal (www.universalstudioshollywood.com). They also have their own version of downtown disney, www.citywalkhollywood.com.

She also likes Hollywood Boulevard (its touristy & kind of seedy but fine during the day). I thinbk she thought all the stars would be hanging out there but there are a lot of shops selling such must-have items as fake oscars and t-shirts of miley & the "joe bros", there also is a not-great but decent mall (called Hollywood and Highland, www.hollywoodandhighland.com)

Also in Hollywood is Disney's restored El Capitan movie theater, i think its showing wall-e, but its cool to check out & has an attached ice cream parlor/lunch place/mini store: www.disney.go.com/disneypictures/el_capitan/

If it were me, i'd stop for an hour or so in Hollywood on the way to Universal Studios, that's all the time it deserves. hope this info is helpful

ayumac: how is that dumpling place in arcadia? i wanted to go but i prefer my dumplings fried to steamed.

looking forward to meeting you all soon!!! --suzann

Wow, what an exciting day! I am so glad to hear that everything is OK with everyone who experienced today's earthquake. Believe it or not, we've had a couple earthquakes of our own here in Upstate NY!

Karen - I'm so glad to hear that you are still coming. You must be so relieved that you all still get to go!!!

Well, I have 1 suitcase completely packed. Meanwhile, my DD is going to her 1st overnight camp on Sunday - Friday so I'm trying to get her packed up too. OMG - you should see my poor house. I've had to move all of her stuff to the living room since I am afraid I will be packing her camp stuff in with our vacation stuff. I'm certain that I will not need her mess kit on the ship!:scared1:

OMG! I thought I had it bad. I could not imagine having to pack for two trips like this back to back!

Whoops! Found us on page 2 - we must all be busy at this point!

Karen, I'm so happy that you and DH are able to make the cruise after all. :cool1:

Glad to see that the quake in the southland wasn't much. D'Anne and Andria, I hope your homes didn't suffer any damage. It's a strange feeling when you're so near the epicenter, isn't it? We rode out a 4.7 in our Tahoe place a few years ago; it was DS's first quake and we were 1.5 miles from the epicenter. Lots of stuff fell, but to his credit, DS didn't panic. DH and I, on the other hand, quickly bought a fire escape ladder when we realized (he's an architect) that the building's design would preclude our escaping a really good shake! DS's only question yesterday, after seeing all was well, was "We're still going to Disneyland, right?":rotfl:

You gotta love how a kids looks at things!

As far as damage, I have about $50 in new picture frames to buy. Not bad! No one got hurt which is important!:thumbsup2

Thanks Suzann! We may hit the Hollywood thing, walk around Beverly Hills and then go to the Promenade in Santa Monica for lunch. I think we are going to skip Universal this time as we have been there before (me and wife, but not kids and they are not yet all that interested in the thrill rides).

Hi everyone. I am going to send the updated and allegedly final cruisemates list to everyone in a few moments. Those participating in fish extender fun will get a list with cabin numbers on it too. I don't want to forget to send...so thought I better get it out now while I'm thinking about it.
