7mo window??

Newbie question here. We already have ressies at our home resort for 11/26-12/1 but we'd like to try other DVC resorts. I believe our 7mo window would open April 26, correct? Would I be able to book our entire stay then or would I have to call each day? What is the likelyhood that another DVC resort is going to be available that week as I think it is a very popular week just after Thanksgiving?

I own at HH and SSR but I stay at other resorts all the time. I think trying the different resorts is half the fun of DVC! We have never had a problem booking at the 7 month window BUT...we have never gone between Thanksgiving and Christmas time. That time frame could be a problem but I would still check it out.

You can call on the 27th to reserve November 26th. To call for the entire trip, you would have to wait until May 1 if Dec. 1 is your checkout day.

obviously, OKW and SSR are larger and have more rooms. but i don't think the week after thanksgiving is unusually popular (but i'm still learning the ropes too - so i may be mistaken.) i would think you could pull it off at most any resort if you were willing to wait list. JMHO.

This is definitely NOT true. We don't know what the OP's home resort is, but chances are it's SSR. BCV and BWV are going to be difficult anytime between Thanksgiving and the 3rd week of December, and VWL will be almost impossible. Now waitlisting IS a possibility if the OP has enough points to do that.

Well, your place in line for the days will begin earlier if you call day by day. Just how much moving/uncertainty are you willing to tolerate? Your best bet would be to book day by day, and also to accept a day at a time as they become available. Do you have enough points to keep your home ressie while you hopefully build this? Or decide if you want to perhaps move just once, with a ressie at both resorts.

What sort of villa do you want? One bedroom may be your best bet.

Unless you will always be visiting at this time, my advice is to try the other resorts on another trip. As already posted, you are trying to move to one of the smaller resorts during a very popular time - Thanksgiving to New Year's Day is arguably the most difficult time of year to get into VWL, BCV & BWV.

Unless you don't mind moving back and forth between resorts or you have enough points to hold the SSR reservation as a fall back until you get all of the days somewhere else, you are in for "waitlist stress".

There are other times of the year that are easier to get into one of the smaller resorts.
