this is the first time I am renting a GV at BW for fall 2005. I need 576 points and will have 508. What would people suggest I do for the remaining 70 or so points? I would probably book day by day since I want to ensure we get it for the week? Would I ask someone to rent and have the points transfered? Is that the best way to go? How early in advance would I do this?? Thanks for the advice?

If it were me, I'd rent the points and have them transferred into my account. (Make sure the points will be valid for the time of the stay). I'd start looking for points 12 -13 months ahead of my dates so that there would be plenty of time to find a BWV owner with points to rent and to complete the transfer.

I would prefer them to be transferred so that I had control of the booking since I would probably be calling day by day for the reservation. (Feel better if I was the one getting the ressie). Also, I would want control of the final reservation and would not want to worry about linking two reservations together.

Unless 76 points is exactly the number of points required for one night you would end up renting more points. You can't make a reservation for a fraction of a night. The only way to combine points from two or more owners for a single night is to transfer points from one to the other.

Hope that makes sense.

You could also rent one or more of the weekend GV nights for cash instead of trying to do the whole reservatiojn with points. However, you do run the risk of having to change GVs if you go that route. If it were me, I just bite the bullet and rent all of the points that I need.

Sounds like a great trip! How will you ever be able to wait until Fall 2005??? :teeth:

I'm just seconding Carol's thoughts...rent and have the points transferred so you control the reservation, don't have to worry about linking two separate reservations, and don't have to depend on another person getting the reservation exactly correct.

Good luck to you! :)

I just figured out my problem in life;) (ok one of them). I read the post and thought it was time for an add-on:p

P.S. I agree, rent and transfer to you if add on isn't in your future.

i just did what CarolMN & Granny just suggested. im going christmas and we are having a family reunion, and i wanted it to be special so i rented transferrable points from 3 very kind members that own at the wlv, for the 11 month. then i will use my points for the second half of our stay at the bcv.

just make sure the points are good for your dates & they dont have to be banked.

i would give yourself plenty of time to make arrangements, payments and transferred time for the 11 month and make ressies day by day.

good luck

Thanks for all that responded!! I will definately try to rent the points and have them transfered like everyone said. I am looking to go October 2005 so I guess I would need to start making my reservation in November 2004 so Maybe by Sept I will try to rent the points. Do you think that is enough time?
Thanks again everyone!!

I'm very new to the DVC, in fact I still haven't gotten my paperwork yet, but I am curious as to why no one has suggested borrowing against the following years points in this situation?

I wondered that same thing. Why not just borrow from the next year?

Sandy, that is too funny :)

I think we're assuming that the poster already borrowed to the max from next year in order to get to 508.

ROFL Sandy - That's exactly what I was thinking! :o Barring an add-on, I agree that rent-and-transfer would be the way to go.
