I'm curious to know if anyone else received the following offer from WestJet.

On Nov. 4, I received 4 emails (one for me, my wife, and each of my two daughters) saying that $75 in WestJet dollars had been deposited into each of our accounts. The only "catch" was that the dollars would be taken away on November 6, if I didn't use them.

As it turns out, I needed to book a flight from LAX to Edmonton for our July 2017 trip. I found a flight for $185 in late July, which worked out to $110 including tax after taking into account the $75 credit.

I assumed this deal was offered to all WestJet customers, but apparently not, since I can find no references to this promotion anywhere on the web. We very rarely fly WestJet (the last time was a couple of years ago), so I have no idea why they targeted us with this promotion. I was very happy to take advantage of it, though.

A month or so ago I did book a one way WestJet trip from Edmonton to LAX in early July 2017, when a poster in this forum pointed out that there was a WestJet sale going on. Perhaps WestJet offered us the $75 credits in order to encourage us to book the return leg?

I did not receive that offer, but I have had similar offers in the past. No idea what triggers them. No doubt some marketing magic only WestJet understands. Nice that you were able to make use of it!

I got this offer but I didn't get an email for my husband's or kids accounts. I didnt check their accounts. I sure will next time!!

I always receive 4 copies of all the WestJet communications, and 90% of the time I delete them all unread. It was just luck that I decided to open one of the emails this time around. Now that I know WestJet does these targeted promotions, I'll be certain to check all communications I receive from then.

It's kind of interesting how airline prices seem to go through cycles. For the past couple of years, the cheapest Edmonton to Anaheim airfares have been to use Air Canada to fly to the SNA (John Wayne) airport. My flights next year are all WestJet through LAX.

In my experience, the price of airfares are certainly trending down, presumably because the price of oil is in the dumpster. Good for my trips to Disneyland, not so good for the Alberta economy.

My husband got the email but not me. Except his was only for $50 not $75. And he travels a fair amount too - not every month or anything, but I think he's taken 5 trips for work with Westjet this year.
