Not sure if this is the right place to ask this. How strict is the 72 hour deadline for COVID-19 testing for travellers crossing into Canada by land? Is it 72 hours, or will they take a three day period instead?

Not 100% sure but from what I've heard if the rule specifically states 72hr it's really 72hr and not 3 days.

I read someone say here that if you're flying it's 72 hours before you last departing flight into Canada and if you're driving it's 72 hours from when you cross the border. This is second hand information though, so I can't guarantee that this is correct.

It can be no longer than 72 hrs from your last departing flight to Canada. So if you have a connection in Chicago to Toronto for example at noon, your 72 hrs would be calculated using the Chicago to Toronto flight. Not departure from MCO.
I went to Walgreens near WDW and did their Rapid ID test, which gives you same day results (I got results in 40 min) so I did my test 48 hrs before departure. It just can’t be more than 72 hrs. They’re strict. I saw someone being turned away at the gate.

A somewhat related question. Is it 72 hours from the time the test (swab) was taken? Or 72 hours from the time the results were given? I'd assume it's from the time the test was taken but wasn't sure

We just got home on Saturday and it was 72 hours from time of test. They checked the collection time on our test results report. Our scheduled departure out of the US was 2:30pm Saturday so the test had to be performed after 2:30pm on Wednesday to fit within the 72 hours.

I don’t think it matters if it’s by air or by land. It’s 72 hours. They’re strict from what I saw. They definitely checked the time of test on our results report when we flew home on Saturday. 3 days to fly into the US but definitely only 72 hours coming back to Canada.

I just realized I also have to calculate for time change because my connection to Canada is in SeaTac :( I’m so confused.

Oh right I didn't even think about the time change for travelling to Florida! As if there isn't enough to remember! We're planning for WDW next summer so if testing is still a thing I'll have to remember that. So yes your 72 hours would be before your flight out of SeaTac then. Are you flying MCO to SeaTac direct?

yes, I’m flying MCO to SeaTac, then SeaTac to Vancouver.
