Hi friends,
We are heading to Scotland to see my sister and her family for Easter. There is going to be a small group of us meeting there. It will be my sister her partner and their twin girls. His parents will be joining us too (it's their flat that those 6 will staying). Me, my husband, son and my father and his wife renting a flat next door. I plan to bring a little host gift for my sister and her in laws. I'm trying to work that out, probably something Pittsburgh related, food or tea towels, etc... O.k, now that you have the background here's my question .
We are going to be going out for a dinner to celebrate the 70th birthday for both my sister's in laws. I have meet them a few times, we exchange holiday cards, and they even sent a thoughtful gift when my son was born. That being said I don't know them well at all. They like to golf and travel. They reside outside of London. I don't want to spend too much and obviously I can't take a large gift especially since we are going to have a suitcase, stroller, car seat and golf clubs to take with us. Does anyone have some thoughtful suggestions ? I would greatly appreciate it.
Thank you!
Melissa

Perhaps you can ask your sister if there's a place in London that her in-laws like to go that you could get a gift certificate for online. Maybe a restaurant, round of golf, spa, something like that? Or maybe you could plan some sort of special outing with your sister for the in-laws while they are there in Scotland. I don't really know what there is to do there, but perhaps some sort of tour they could go on?

Outside of that, maybe a personalized wooden picture frame that is engraved with Celebrating 70 years or their names or something. I'm sure stuff like that can be ordered online, but I've also seen craft vendors doing them at craft shows. I've seen photo albums with engraved covers as well. Or monogrammed golf or hand towels. Or a small gift basket with Pennsylvania-themed items. I used to live in PA, but for some reason the only PA-centric thing I can really think of right now are gobs, and they definitely wouldn't travel well! Well, that and Hershey's chocolate, but from what I've heard, Europeans don't generally like the sweetness of American chocolate. If they drink, maybe a nice bottle of wine that you pick up in Scotland and a bouquet of flowers for the lady? That's all I can think of right now. Good luck!

How about buying flowers while you are there? or a plant if they have a garden?

I would go for something Pittsburgh related for birthday presents too. Maybe local candy? Another idea would be some kind of travel journal.

Good luck and have a safe and fun trip!

Hi all. Quick update. We are heading back to the states tomorrow. We had a wonderful trip. I ended up getting Pittsburgh tea towels for our 2 hostess gifts. I got the lady a Wendell August bookmark and the gentleman a book on Andrew Carnegie. Both were a big hit! Thank you so much for your help.
