Yes its another 7 month question, I really tried to use the search function but no one it seems has asked my specific question!

Next year, 2012 we are looking at traveling down on New Years Eve and staying the 1st week of January. I will probably book the first 3 nights at BLT using our 11 month window there. However, the last 5 nights (which would be Jan 3-8) I was thinking of trying to book either a studio WLV or AKV at 7 months. I know from reading that WL is nearly impossible around the holidays, but this is after the holidays so I was wondering if anyone had any experience to share?

I will be booking our home resort OKW at 11 months, and will be ok there if either are not available.

Thanks!

Jennifer

Jan 1 will be a Sunday in 2012. That usually means that Jan 2 and Jan 3 nights will still be very crowded (Jan 2 will be the official holiday and the masses usually are still around when that happens until large numbers leave on the 3d and 4th. As a result the night of Jan 3 might be somewhat more difficult than the 4th and after. Either way you should still have a good chance for AKV savanna view. VWL is hit or miss-- that problem exists regardless of holidays because it is a smaller resort.

I called at the 7 month window for January this year for a trip starting January 16th. I had pretty much everything available EXCEPT, I could not get BWV-standard view studio, nor could I get OKW HH studio. I was missing the first day for OKW, so booked the next day and waitlisted for the first night, which I got several weeks afterwards. I since added another week to that trip. The only hard days are the marathon days and MLK weekend. The reason I had a tough time at the beginning was that the 16th was a Sunday of MLK weekend. As for the BWV-standard view, there were many days missing there, so I could not pull it together. Also AKV-studio value was also not available for several days within that week.

We are starting to plan our first trip after purchasing into BLT for Jan.3rd through the 10th. I am hoping to get a MK grande villa for the 10 of us. Maybe we will see you there!!!

Grand villa? wow I am SOOO envious! Can you adopt me?

I have been wondering though do they do anything at the top of the world lounge for NYE? I could see a great party going on up there.

After our trip this year staying 7 nights in a MK view studio we won't have many points available which is why its only for 3 nights in hopefully a SV studio. Thanks every for their input, I am thinking maybe of possibly doing a triple split stay with maybe the first one or two nights after BLT in a 1bedroom at WLV, I know those are easier to get.

I am retiring this year after 39 years of teaching so my gift to myself and extended family was membership in dvc. My sister and I are the disney fanantics and hopefully the rest will enjoy it as much. I just found out there will be a new addition to the clan in July. So the ages of our party will range from 64 to 6 months. With borrowing and banking I will have enough points for a grand villa.

Jennifer...I can only share our current experience. I called for an early January 2011 reservation at about the 6 month mark. I was not able to get any resort for the entire January 3-8 except SSR. We booked AKV Jambo for Jan 3-6 and had to book SSR the remaining 6-8.

Fast forward about 5 months and we are still waitlisted for those Jan 6-8 nights to move to AKV Jambo. Based on my experience with the wait list, I see little chance of getting those nights.

So the answer is, I'm hoping that you can get what you want at 7 months. It's good that you are booking OKW first to have that as a fallback plan.

Good luck!

Thanks everyone for their insight, In my short time with DVC I have found the 7 month window is really like playing the lottery, the way I look at it though is a day at a Disney/DVC resort is way better then any day at work.

Yes it is -- and if you go into it with being flexible then you'll be OK. It's those folks who call and only want one resort and are not ready to compromise that have a problem. When I call at the 7 mo. window I try to be prepared and have a list of resorts written down and know my strategy.

We do, too. We have a list of the resorts we want to stay at - in order - in hand. If not here, then here....if not here...then here.

And it can be pretty specific - if not a Boardwalk View standard view room, then a Savannah room at AKL, if not that, then the preferably standard but likely lake view at BLT.

It gives the family something to plan and negotiate, and it teaches my kids that they need to plan for not getting what they want.

We've only stayed away from home twice, and gotten our first choice twice.
