Hey guys, just a quick one.

So imagine I book my home resort for a 2 week stay at the 11 months mark as a backup, but when it gets to the 7 month mark I want to modify that stay to other resorts that have availability for the same dates. Now my assumption is that no resort will have a 2 week stay available at that point, but how easy would it be to say book 2 different resorts switching in the middle for that period at the 7 month point?

That would depend on what resorts you want, what type of room you are booking and what time of year you are going.

For the most part, studios are tough to book all year at 7 months for CCV and VGF due to limited inventory. SSR, AKV, and OKW will be the easiest to book. Any time that occurs during Fall Frenzy or Marathon Weekends will be a challenge even at 11 months for certain resorts.

But if you’re booking a 1BR or dedicated 2BR, your chances of success will increase tremendously. I highly recommend viewing the availability thread maintained by @skier_pete . https://www.disboards.com/threads/p...-bd-charts-september-2019-2-bd-added.3689931/

As noted what you may be able to get depends on resort you want to switch to, type of room, and time of year, so you need to provide the when and what for anyone to provide any possible guess. Just note, however, that If you decide to try doing the split reservation, make sure your 2 week 11-month reservation at home resort is made as two separate one week reservations (and keep them separate until 7 months out). Why:

1. If you have two separate one week reservations, you can attempt to modify one of the weeks on line at 7 months out without a risk of losing the original reservation if the modification cannot be completed.

2. If you have a single two-week reservation and want to modify one of the weeks to another resort, you must first change your 2-week reservation by dropping a week before attempting to get a new, separate 1-week reservation at another resort. And during the time of dropping a week and attempting to get that second week at another resort, complete disaster can happen because the resort you wanted could fill before you lock-in that second reservation, and your home resort could fill for the week you dropped, leaving you with no reservation for that week.

Yeah, it really does come down to when your trip is more than anything else, followed by desired resort, then it's room size. Summer, probably not a problem for most places. Sept 15-Marathon weekend in January, very problematic.

If you want to try for a split stay, the book it in segments at 11 months, so you can modify online each part. Once you get what you want at other resorts...or if you can’t, MS can always merge the individual ones into one for you,

If you book as one long one, then the only modifying that can be done online is all or none. Modifying part of a reservation requires a call to MS, which means waiting an extra hour or so...depending on how long you are on hold..to get something booked
