7 month reservation window

We are going to do a split reservation between hopefully BLT and AK. Neither of these resorts are our home resort. I am confused as to when the 7 month window starts. Is it from the first day of the trip or is it the last? I have not seen anything that specifically states when the window starts.

It's 7 months prior to desired check in date. You will have two separate reservations.

For example, let's say you want to stay at BLT 12/20-12/24 and then move to AKV 12/24 -12/27. That's 7 nights total.

You can call on May 20 to make the 4 night BLT reservation. Then you have to wait and call on May 24 for the last 3 nights at AKV.

This will be our first ressie as a DVC owner so I have one other question. Should I make a ressie at our home resort now just in case there are no availablities? Also is there a penality for changing locations if I do that?

I would definately book at your Home Resort just to fall back on and then start your calls at 7 mos. The worst that can happen is you will be wait listed for BLT & AKV.

I am also new to the DVC, but I am pretty sure there is no cost to change your ressie and/or resort.

You should definitely book home resort and then try to switch. Depending on time of year, you might face situation where there is absolutely nothing to get 7 months out at BLT and possbily AKV.

There is no charge or penalty for switching at 7 months out.
