7 Days of Fun, Food, & Magic...DDP Review w/PICS **UPDATED 6/25**

Well we woke up Friday hoping for a much better day, and we sure got one! Yay! We always spend our first hours in the Magic Kingdom and chose to eat at Cosmic Ray's, since it is the largest facility and offered the most options. It's my DB's favorite Quick Service location. We have been several times, but when we entered, we were warmly greeted by an older cast member who handed us one of the smaller menus and took 15 minutes to explain everything on the menu....;)

I had the Chicken Breast Nuggets with fries and a Double Fudge Chocolate Cake

Chicken was normal Disney quality, fries were soggy, and cake was SUPER bitter.....oh well, I was in the Magic Kingdom, so I could have cared less. :cool1:

DD and DM both had the 1/2 Rotisserie Chicken with double mashed potatoes and carrot cake.

I tried the chicken and agreed with Mom that it was very moist and tender. Tasted fresh and not hours old!! She enjoyed the mashed potatoes more than I did. They had a ton of skin in them, which I'm not a fan of.

DB and DBF chose the Pulled Pork Sandwich which looked pretty good. DB was still recovering from stomach issues and ate very little of it. For dessert they tried a new menu offering, Gelato, which is like a Ice Cream/Smoothie type dessert. It's offered in both Chocolate and Sugar-Free Mango. Our CM friend at the door just raved about the Mango flavor, so DBF tried it and it was super gross. Tasted like canned baby food.....

All-in-all, the Cosmic Ray's experience was exactly as I expected. Mediocre food in a cool atmosphere.

Sorry for the rough start to your trip. :sad1: But Cosmic Rays usually brings a smile to a face! I'm a huge fan of the roasted chicken but that pulled pork sandwich looks good too. Thanks for the warning about the mango gelato... baby food flavor. :lmao:

We have eaten at Cosmic Ray’s before and it was nothing memorable. Seems like it was the same for you.

The gelato sounds nasty. Canned baby food?! YUCK!

Excited for the 50s!

Our first Table Service meal was used at 50's Prime Time. We've eaten here several times, but this had been our first visit in about 3 trips. I had my hopes up that it had gotten better with time. To some extent it did, but still don't feel it's a top choice for me....so-so food in a really cool atmosphere!:)

I've never eaten anything besides the Fried Chicken plate, so I thought I'd live outside the box and try the Pot Roast with mashed potatoes and shreds of carrot, greens, and celery. The portion was rather small, about the size of a fist, but had a decent taste. It reminded me of my Mom's roast, so that was great! The potatoes were just okay, missing that WOW flavor. Mom and I only managed to put down only about half of the dish....

Yummy, but will go back to Fried Chicken next year!

DB and DBF had the new menu item, Mom's Favorite Dishes Platter, with a small sample of Meatloaf, Fried Chicken, and Roast. This is a great option of those who aren't picky! It came with greens and mashed potatoes. DB was still sick with food poisoning, but managed to put down some of the chicken which he said was just as tasty as KFC, his favorite! Neither cared for the meatloaf, but both loved the Pot Roast. The greens were tasteless and potatoes were tolerable.

Both said they would choose this again because you get a good portion of all three menu favorites! I believe it's the best bang for your buck!

Desserts consisted of:
Dad's Candy Sundae:

This was too cute to eat! It was a huge soft brownie covered in ice cream, topped with caramel corn, whipped cream, mickey sprinkles, and a cherry. It was good, but extremely rich. This is probably the best dessert value at Prime Time.

Apple Pie with Ice Cream:

Much better than I expected! I figured it would be a frozen, heated up deal, but it was fresh with delicious vanilla bean ice cream! Good choice!

Strawberry Shake:

Best my Dad ever had....and he's had a lot of shakes! ;)

Smores:

Good for about 2 bites, then you can't stand anymore. WAY too rich! But, it hits the spot! It's a sticky, gooey mess!!

P B & J Shake:

TABLE WINNER!! I had heard about the yummy goodness of this treat, but was determined to get the smores! I tried and it was delicious!! Not too sweet and not too peanut buttery....it was just awesome! Must try! :goodvibes

This is a really fun place to eat with awesome servers that make the experience so much more than it is....if choosing to eat here, expect a great experience, not great food. Although, their Cherry and Vanilla coke is AWESOME! I won't say how many glasses I had!;)
Other Disney table service restaurants knock this one out of the park, though.

I agree, the experience is a lot better than the food at 50s PTC.
I mean, the food is average, not blow your socks off, like you said.

I will have to try the PB & J shake. I have heard wonderful things about it!

My DD and I have an ADR here in August. She loves pot roast but it seems like she can never finish an entire meal and most goes to waste. So I think the favorite dishes platter might be a perfect option for us to split! She can have the smaller portion of pot roast and I get the meatloaf and chicken! :cool1: and then maybe we'll have room for a shake! Thanks for the great review!

I'm joining in the party  maybe just a little late ;) I'm thinnking things can only get better for you from here on in :woohoo:

We have always loved 50s PT but now they have changed to the all-day men we probably won't return since theres nothng on the menu now that I like (always used to have one of the lovely sadwiches). It's a same as I will miss the Smores dessert and DH loves the pot roast but there are plenty of other places that we have yet to try.

Looking forward to more.

Thanks for sharing! We're trying 50's PT for the first time next month. I think I'll go for the fried chicken!!

We haven't been to 50s Prime Time for years but looking at your desserts makes me want to go back .... Just yummy :)

I think 50's PT is more about the atmosphere and less about the food - at least if you order the meatloaf! I have started to order the sides there since I love the theming and desserts but not so much the entrees.

Glad to see that apple pie which looks more like cobbler - I could eat that all day! :rotfl2:

You must not have had Cooper as your server since after 2 refills he cut us off and said "after 3 you'll have to pee! "

Thanks for sharing!
