Dvcnews.com has an interesting article about future growth of timeshare units in the Reedy Creek Improvement District, which is where WDW is located. It says that as many as 7,200 timeshare units might be built by DVC in the next 10 years. Dvcnews.com points out that these projections don't always come to fruition: A 10-year projection made in 1998 projected that Disney would have a fifth park operating by 2008.

Here is a link to the Dvcnews.com article: http://www.dvcnews.com/index.php/ne...20-7200-dvc-villas-to-be-added-in-next-decade

Maybe there is hope for those of you who are waiting for a Poly or GF DVC!

That's really interesting.

I think the key words are "may be."

However, with a specific number like 7200...I bet Disney knows exactly where those 7,200 rooms would go.

Those numbers are "Maximum" possible growth projected. I also think those numbers include the undeclared inventory of SSR, AKV and BLT. Its not a timeshare until its declared into inventory. Also, I wonder if the Four Season timeshare/fractional units are included in that number of units.

7200 new ones is extremely ambitious. Counting all the DVC resorts now and even adding Hawaii you are way below that number of total rooms even if you count 2BR lock-offs as two rooms each. Start the count with yet undeclared rooms at SSR, AKV, BLT, California, and Hawaii and you still have to build double of the number of resorts that exist or are under construction now. If I were betting over or under, I would definitely put a large amount on the under for this prediction.

Isn't this projection just for WDW property? If so, it seems like it must be the maximum projected.

According to numbers from DVCNews.com here's the rooms per resort (not just declared rooms)...
AKV (max 708)
BLT (max 428)
BCV (max 282)
BWV (max 532)
OKW (max 761)
SSR (max 1260)
WLV (max 181)

Maximum total rooms for all DVCs at WDW is 4152.
Hard to imagine 7200 more DVC rooms on WDW property.

If they do add that many rooms, I hope they expand at all the parks. (Or build a 5th park like they projected during their projection 10 years ago)

Interesting article. Definitely more of a "maximum" plan - setting fences and boundaries of what "could" happen, not intended as what "will" happen. No doubt Disney knows a lot of what and where they would like to "fill in" currently developed space, and build up currently undeveloped space - but like any other corporation or individual, they cannot accurately predict the exact when. And since Reedy Creek covers the entire property, I believe the Four Seasons is included in that figure, as other potential non-DVC resorts are for the Flaming Crossings area on the western edge of the property are included.

There remain too many outstanding variables (i.e. overall economy - both national & state, continued attendance trends & overall WDW profitability, ongoing sales at their existing properties, etc)for them to fully realize before they are willing to pull the trigger and actually spend the development costs to build these potential rooms. Certainly on the back side they're working thorugh all kinds of different scenarios, plans & concepts to be ready to go whenever the variables come together for them to build once again. But until such time as they announce and actually break ground, this plan remains just an allowance for future growth.

Since Disney built all of those value resort rooms that that they never opened, I would think that they now have a good understanding about over building. And unless they expand the parks or build a fifth one, I can't imagine increasing the DVC villas from 4152 to 7200.

When were there 3 weeks ago DH played golf with someone who told him that the Four Seasons pulled out and there will be luxury homes priced at a million plus being built there instead. Has anyone else heard this?

Cannot imagine another 7200 families hitting the parks daily. Thats when we sell out, although I would buy DVC Poly.

well something is going up there.

still think it is 4 seasons- it was surpose to be hotel, timeshares, condo and homes.

boy that is alot of timeshare units - don't know - since they have only been adding them to deluxe resorts - either that is about to change or several stand alone ones.

just don't know.
