60th birthday gift ideas needed

My dad turns 60 next month and I have no idea what to get him. Could any of you tell me what you got your parents/spouses/siblings, etc. when they turned 60?

He´s very active. Hikes a lot in the summer, owns a "summerhouse" that he loves to spend time in all year round, likes gardening, has travelled tremendously (he has been to almost 200 countries) and is just generally the type that doesn´t need much and has everything he needs.

Help would be greatly appreciated.

I renew my dad's subscription to National Geographic each year. He is very difficult to buy for because if he wants something he just buys it himself.

When my mom turned 60 we got her a sky dive. It's what she wanted and she loved it! She's even gone again. My husband went with her to celebrate his 40th. Yhe only way I am jumping out of a plane is if I'm pushed!

Spencer's Gifts sells baseball hats that say things like "Genuine 1949" (the year of your dad's birth, I assume, since he'll be 60) for landmark birthdays like 40, 50 and 60, so that would be a memorable keepsake of the birthday and also something he could use.

Check out the cards, too, with the year on them, like "1949 - bread sold for <price>, average cost of a house, political info (who was president, major world events, etc.) because those can also be a good keepsake of a special birthday.

Another idea that's more personal would be to collect pics of him "through the years" and compile a photo album for him. Or write some special memories you have of growing up with him. Or maybe take him to a place that you and he went to -- a favorite fishing spot, or a restaurant you'd go to after church, or whatever. I think that he will be very pleased to know you want his day to be special, and I hope it's a terrific day for him.

You could go on Ebay and do a search on 60th anniversary of

and see what it turns up...I did this for my Dad.. and found Him all kinds of kewl 60th anniversary things.. and made a big box of fun stuff.

If he's real into his summerhouse..why not research it.. and make a kewl folder about the house..when it was built..ect.

Or take a pretty photo of his summer house and have a oil painting painted from it...that would be special...then he could keep it at his other house when he's not at the summer house.

Oh my 60th, my DS took me out to dinner....just the 2 of us (DH and I have never celebrated each other's birthdays). My son and I had a fabulous dinner and I will never forget it. Please don't think about getting him just "something"....the gift of your time and love is something he cannot buy.
