We have decided to add 2 days to 6flags to our DL trip. We have never been to 6 flags but my DH and DS 10 loves fast rides and roller coasters. I have been trying to info on the park besides what is on their web site and I can find much of any thing I guess I have gotten spoiled because of DIS. If any has a info about their trip or point me in the right direction that would be very helpful.

I've been to Magic Mountain a number of times thanks to an annual church trip for our high school group (where i've been a leader for the past 6 years!). The trip is very fun for thrill seekers, not fun for people who don't like heights or the crazy coaster (non-standard seats that move, twist, turn, or where you are standing, hanging from the track, etc.). DH does not like coasters and didn't enjoy the park. But those who love them are huge fans.

The park is nothing like a Disney park. You won't find super clean restrooms or overly friendly employees here. More like a carnvial type level of customer service. But they are catering to a different audience than Disney.

As far as info, try the forum for Southern California Theme parks. You are bound to get a lot of information there. Also I found some threads for you online.

And then I found this website full of information. Looks like it is written by a local fan that visits frequently and writes a blog about the park.

Our last two trips there have been less than stellar - that said, I've been going as a chaperone for about 6 years now! ;) My best advice is to not go into the park expecting Disney or comparing it to Disney, and make sure DH and your DD know that too. I never noticed the run down appearance of some areas or the lackluster food til I became part of the DISboards and frequented DLR as much as I have. So Six Flags lost the "magic" that it once had for me. But when I was 17, that park was amazing. :thumbsup2 Also, try and visit on a weekday - the parks are jammed on weekends.

Excellent advice above.
I will add that unless one day is devoted to the water park, 2 days is unnecessary. It can easily be done in one day. Also plan to be sore from the walking up and down hills. It's not flat like DL.
Make sure you do the Sky Tower. The view is amazing!

We were just there a few weeks ago. Virtually no lines for any ride, so you can easily get in all the rides in one full day. However, there are a _lot_ of roller coasters in that park, so riding them all in one day can be a bit much to endure. :faint: ... especially if you get stuck on one like we did :worried:

Don't expect the full Disney magic immersion, though. This is a no-frills, super rollercoaster park.

We are also visiting MM this summer. We have a Six Flags near us at home so we are used to the vibe/atmosphere most talk about when referring to MM. For us it is all about the coasters. My kids are 19 and 16 and we all love thrill rides.

I had been doing some research and was writing down a lot of things, but didn't make a record of the sites I visited. We are going over a weekend (works best for our schedule) so we will be getting Flash passes. We are not doing the water park.

My notes are somewhat scratchy, I should have done better as I am confusing myself! :upsidedow

We are getting the Flash Pass but Lex Luther and X2 are not included in those but can be added for an additional cost. I have written down $15 per person per ride so we won't be doing that. So we will head to x2 and then Lex Luther before the lines get out of control. We will arrive prior to park opening to be among the first in.

Not sure how much of what I am saying here will be accurate and what is not hopefully those in the know will correct what is wrong. Like I said I am going off the notes I wrote for myself.

  • There is a $250 fee if the Flashpass is lost or broken so if getting one be careful (they also are not water proof).
  • Food places are less than steller, Johnny Rockets does have a family pack $40 for 4 burgers. No food brought into the parks, but can pack a lunch to eat at the car.
  • MouseSavers has a list of discounts available.

Not sure that helps at all

If you plan on going in the summer be aware that SFMM is HOT. And the park is very large, so lots of walking without a lot of shade.

Exactly right.

Get there at opening and push up as close to the gate as you can. Then sprint to X2 and knock that out first, if things are running normal you should be on in less than 20 minutes.

Then after you ride X2 go and get your flash passes. We were there on a Tuesday in June 2010 and didn't need flash passes - lines were 30 minutes or less on everything except X2. Ask an employee if they think they'll be necessary.

Agree with above.... get there early and as close to the gates as possible. Go straight to X2. We went to.... something further up the hill first, can't remember, then back to X2 and they waited almost an hour. Mistake. X2 first. The lines weren't unbearable the rest of the day - this was Friday after Thanksgiving.

Yup, in June, 2010 we sprinted in and were on X2 in less than 15 minutes. After we rode we immediatley got back in line and the wait was already 1:15. Just follow the crowd of running teens and you can't go wrong, lol....
