Disney is more expensive, but you get what you pay for and it is noticeable. We will only cruise Disney, even as adults only.
You get family style entertainment and Disney theming.
In every other areas they are going to be potentially lacking when comparing them. The thing often forgotten is that these other cruise lines you can upgrade your experience. As an example on other cruise lines take some of your savings and get a drink package or dining package for the cruise. Possibly upgrade you room to a suite or a ship within a ship area (Haven, Retreat, Star Class).
I thought like you until we tried it. I really like DCL but for the price I can get better offerings elsewhere.
Also Disney doesn't do much as far as variety regarding itineraries.
We are about 2 weeks out from a San Juan cruise that will stop in Aruba, Curacao, Bonaire, St Lucia, St Kitts. We will have a 2BR Haven Suite with drinks packages included for around the same price as getting connecting balcony rooms on the Fantasy. The Fantasy is just doing a standard Eastern or Western Caribbean cruise.
