I read that there's a bar/lounge attached to 50's PTC. True? Can you just walk in and get a drink without needing an ADR for the restaurant? Or is it only a waiting area for those planning to dine there?

Why do I ask? DD was wanting me to make an ADR at Sci Fi, mainly because she wanted a souvenir cup with a glow cube, the one pictured below, that we get almost every trip. Someone here on the DIS told me that 50's PTC also carries similar cups. DD doesn't care about a meal, she just wants the drink.

If I could save planning an ADR and just walk into the bar, get a souvenir cup for DD and some yummy concoction for myself while I was at it, well, that would be terrific. Anyone know if I can do this? TIA

Yes. It is not a separate area. It IS in the waiting area. But anyone can sit and have a drink (or stand because I've never really seen it empty).

And yes - they have those cups. A Mickey's Bee Bop is the best thing on a hot day.

People do use it as a waiting area for the restaurant, which is kind of a drag because they're taking up seats and often not ordering food/cocktails. We went last October, around 4:00 pm, hoping to have an appetizer and a glass of wine. A family of five was taking up one of the few seating areas (they had three little kids) and had not ordered any food/drink. We had to wait about 20 minutes for them to be called into the restaurant -- then we snagged their seats. It's a pretty small bar, so there are not a lot of seats.

There's also a bar where you can get individual stools to sit on to order a cocktail, but they were completely full when we were there, with people waiting for them.

I wouldn't count on being able to get a seat in the lounge anywhere during the dinner hour. You might have a better chance earlier in the day.

Yes you can just walk right in and sit at the bar...assuming there's empty seats...lol The bar is directly in front of you across the way when you walk in.
Three of us walked in around mid afternoon, sat there ordered drinks and some onion rings. I tried 'Dad's Electric Lemonade'...very good!

Wonderful! Thank you! We're going in January, so hopefully it won't be too crowded, but if it is then I don't really mind standing if I have to. :cool1:

The actual "bar" is included in the waiting area for the restaurant; many people seem a bit peeved when patrons are taking up room here, but that is what it is there for !

However, if you are not interested in the food menu - you can simply walk in, belly up to the bar, order a drink from the bartender and take it away with you without waiting for a seat/table/server.

If you are looking to eat there, you can either make ADR's for the restaurant or, since they serve food at the bar, you can wait for seats to open up at the bar (first come first served). I would not recommend eating at the bar if you are a family, but a couple shouldnt have that long a wait for two seats to open up . . . . . .

My dd loves the milkshakes there and we couldn't get seated for at least an hour (it was a last minute thought so we didn't expect much). We decided to head to the bar and get them there! The girls had a great time drinking their shakes and the moms had a glass of wine! But, we did have to wait for an opening.
