50's PT review

We just did a last-minute trip Easter weekend with less than 48 hours to plan. Unbelievably, there were several dining options available if we were flexible. The only PS we ended up not cancelling was lunch at 50's Prime Time.

We ordered:
meatloaf (split with my husband) - best meatloaf around!
kids meatloaf, potatoes, green beans $6.50 (Maybe $5.99)
kids chicken drummies, potatoes, corn $6.50
kids PB&J w/chips $3.50
2 sodas for the adults (kids meals included them)

Dessert: 2 tasty sundaes, 1 kids build-a-sundae, and Dad's Super Sundae (dh and I couldn't quite finish it)

We requested Auntie Susan our favorite server and had fun catching up a bit. As I was wearing white, she put a Little Mermaid bib on me. When our 8 yr. old didn't finish his veggies, she returned with his sundae AND his grean beans on a separate plate topped with whipped cream and sprinkles. Poor little guy actually choked some of it down before we told him Auntie Susan was joking. A table of teen girls next to us was totally appauled that he'd been served that, but we loved it. This is one of our new favorites that we discovered on our Thanksgiving trip. We had to go back a 2nd time that trip. All 3 times the food has been good and we've had fun. 5 sets of thumbs up from our crowd!

It is such good fun in there - I "nearly" got fed my green beans aeroplane style and it was soo funny Well everyone that was with me thought it was .

I really want to go back but I promised myself this trip to try new restaurants.

Great review I think the green beans with cream and spinkles sounded a real hoot as does Auntie Susan.

I hate that obnoxious place. Noisy where the tables get out of hand easily, and the food did not impress me.

If you mind noisy places that make you feel you're eating in a free for all barn, then skip this one altogether.
If you do not mind the chaos, then check it out...

50's PTC is a hoot! My DW and I love this place. It does have the best meatloaf anywhere.

I think you have to be a baby-boomer to truly appreciate this place, the antics, the style, the kitsch. We love cutting-up with the server and enjoy the loud, rowdy atmosphere. It's a great reminder of what it was like in mom's kitchen growing up.

It's important to enjoy the "SHOW" aspect of everything at WDW. That's what sets WDW apart from other theme parks -- the SHOW is so important, even in a restaurant!

Thanx for the great review on the Prime Time Diner... I am going there with my 9 year old daughter and she knows nothing about this place... I think she will have a great time seeing her Mom get in trouble for not eating her veggies! lol

This "obnoxious, noisy place" sounds like great fun for a happy, easy going, little family like mine.. stick in the muds need stay away.

Our trip just this past October was the 1st time we ever ate here, and we had great fun! DD was only 3 1/2 yrs old, so they didn't tease her too much. I, however, am not big on getting lots of attention and having people look at me, but I had a great time when a man at the next table (we did not know him) told his waiter that I was making fun of him!! I wasn't, of course, just giggling at his "nerdy" attire and taped horn-rimmed glasses. Cousin Steve came over to me and took a spoonful of my DH's dessert and put some on my nose before putting a HUGE spoonful into my mouth. I feel a bit embarassed thinking about it now, but at the time both tables had a good and hearty laugh, since it was all in good fun!

This year we're going with my parents and my husband's parents and we will definitely be eating there. The decor alone will give them a big kick and a bit of nostalgia, I'm sure!

Could someone recommend some fun servers at PTC? I noted Auntie Susan, but is there anyone else in case she is not in? We've been there once before and loved it, but our server didn't do any of the silly stuff. We are people who would enjoy the antics. Please give us some ideas of who to request for our trip in 2 weeks. Thanks.

cousin Spence (Spencer sp?) he is a riot. He gave my mother a childrens menu to color since she kept putting her elbows on the table. He fussed at DSi because she hid some of her food on her DFi plate. However the biggest fun was with my 13 DS. DS was laughing at DD and DNi because they had to set the table, because he laughed DS had to. Then he couldn't keep his elbows off the table. He finally had to sing I'm a little tea pot. It was so much fun.
On our first trip our cousin (a very young lady/ teen or very early twenties) ws no fun at all, but I decided to give it another chance and boy was I glad. It was certainly one of the highlights of our trip

We loved cousin Chris!! He was terrific. Really nerdy in looks....dark rimmed glasses in an old style, whiffle cut hair style. He was a hoot.

A second vote for Cousin Chris. Ask him to sing "That's Amoure" (not sure of spelling?) - he does it in Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis voices. He was our server the first time we ate at PTC (when we had no clue what we were in for!) and the children enjoyed him so much that we've requested him every time we eat there. Last year, he took a young teenage girl from the table next to us and stuck bendy straws in her hair. They were sticking out all over; then he paraded her around the restaurant asking if anyone would be willing to be her date for the prom. My kids were roaring!

We have had Cousin Claire a couple of times and she plays the part perfect.

We were there in October 2001 & had Cousin Dale. Don't know if he is still working there, but he was great. My kids even had him sign their autograph books!!!

I just love this restaurant, the atmosphere and the food.

We will be trying new restaurants on our trip in October, so I don't know if we will make it back there this year.

auntie claire!!! she's the best!! we've had her each time on our last 2 trips - she plunks down a photo album of pix on your table for you to view (pix of people posing with her, mostly!) & really puts on a great "show"! she put a little mermaid bib on my husband last time (he was eating the pot roast & she didn't want him to mess up his white tank top) now, my husband stands 6'4" with long black hair, beard & dark glasses (yes - he looks like a biker, alright!) there he is in this little mermaid bib - took a few pix of that for the guys at his job! (too funny!)

the food is good, never had a complaint - love watching those tv screens of vintage b&w sitcoms - i guess if you're a little shy, the "attention" might be a bit overwhelming, but it's all in good fun!

After having the yummy pot roast in 2001, I can't wait to go back.

I'll have to ask for one of the CMs mentioned here because ours was bland, but we did enjoy watching other servers. (one kept calling this little girl across the way from us "sugar booger").

The people at the table next to us had no clue what was going on. I wonder if they enjoyed their meal (we left before their order came).

our first trip we had a dud server. she was very young and just not into it. We did however have great interactioin with the server for the table next to us. He accidently bumped DD's high chair, and then started making remarks everytime he went by. By the end we had a great time, too bad it wasn't with our own server.

I wrote about our visit to PTC here when I got back - it was like getting a good meal and a show, too.

Ya gotta be up for it, tho - some folks just aren't, I guess.

Our family likes this place. My husband is from a large family (7 kids) and he swears it is like stepping back in time to his grandmother's table and her "you eat what's in front of you" rules.
All my son wanted was to earn a CLEAN PLATE award. Unfortunately he does not like corn.....and there was corn on his plate. Feeling sorry for him....I ate the corn. The result? I couldn't finish my own meal so I got scolded by the server much to my family's delight!

It was a lot of fun. We'll be eating there again.
(But I'm NOT eating anyone else's veggies!!!)
