50's Diner

I am going to Disney in September and would like to eat at the 50's diner (the one where you sit in cars and it's like a drive in theatre) Do you have to make reservations for this? There will be 4 adults and 3 kids going. I was planning to surprise my DB and DSIL, as they have both had a birthday recently and I wanted to get them something they would enjoy)

When I went in May 2004 we did not have a PS for lunch, and we waited about 1 hour to be seated. I think you really should make a PS (specially for dinner), but be careful because they are renovating the restaurant from Sept 6-13 2005! They will tell you when you call.

The one that you "sit in cars" is called the Sci-Fi Dine in Theater. The 50's Prime Time Cafe is a sit-down restaurant, with decor from the 50's where "mom", "pop", etc. serve you dinner and make you mind your manners. Just wanted to be sure you had the correct name when you make you advanced reservation, which I definitely would.

Not sure when you are going in Sept, but wanted you to know it will be closed from Sept 6-13.

I believe you're referring to the SciFi Drive-In, where guests do sit in cars and watch cheesy old sci fi clips while they eat. It's a very popular place and usually are turning away those without ADRs. Esp with a larger party, you will want one =)

The 50's place is 50's PrimeTime diner, and it resembles a 50's kitchen and an aunt, uncle, or mom will wait on you =)

The Sci Fi Dine in will be closed those dates, not 50's Prime Time Cafe. I would definitely make a reservation/ADR immediately for them both.

How do I make advance reservations? I guess we have to decide which day we will be going to MGM and then go from there.

We've eaten at 50's Cafe 4 times and we've always enjoyed it. The first 3 times we didn't have PS and had to wait awhile. The last time we had PS and maybe it was just a coincidence but this was the first time we got one of the tables with the t.v.'s. Definitely make AR.

Sci-Fi-eaten there once for dessert-didn't like the soft serve ice cream sundae (we actually returned it to the kitchen). Tried to eat there several other times and basically without AR we couldn't get in.

Call Disney Dining to make AR. 407-WDW-DINE. Good luck!

We made a PS last Wed for the 50s Cafe Diner for the next day at 11am. No problem! Thoroughly enjoyed it too!! Lots of walkin's!! But if you know you want to go make the PS now!
