500,000 Members this Monday

For the last year, I've been tracking the number of new members to disboards.com.

500,000 is finally just around the corner. The number of new memberships per day dropped dramatically in the fall. But then, the second day after Christmas shot up to between 2 and 3 times what they had been.

I've got two different projections running (one looks to the average since January 2014, the other is much more short term, the last week). Both agree on Monday January 19, 2015 as the day the membership figure should top 500,000. Right now, the one I think to be more accurate is showing disboards.com will reach 500,000 around 4:24 pm (eastern) but I suspect it will happen a little earlier in the day.

With 83 new members yesterday, my guess of a little earlier than 4:30 might be a little off. Based on yesterday's numbers, the spreadsheet is forecasting 5:52 pm Sunday. Sundays, however, are generally fairly active, more so than Saturdays, so it might be a little earlier.

With 100 new members on Sunday (as of midnight eastern) 500,000 will happen today. The mid-afternoon estimate is still the best guess.

I have to say that 500,000 members is pretty cool! To be fair, that is not the actual active membership as people who leave for one reason or another are not purged and remain on the membership rolls. I'm not saying that they *should* be purged ... sometimes I'll stumble across a "way back" thread and see posts from people long gone and its nice to read what they had to say .

I'd be curious how many people have been *active* in the last 6 months.
