Ok that one got me! I don't even have children, yet I feel a little like crying!
I didn't mean to get too personal, but I guess that is a little of the Disney magic for me. I know that here are plenty of choices in terms of thrill parks and other theme parks in our country. The Disney difference is that we are all at least a bit complicent in that fantasy; and that willingness to suspend disbelief and rational critique makes us all a little more childlike -- a little more open to something magical happening.
Being a firefighter near NYC, I have seen my share of real and staged pyrotechnics, and I admit to being a bit jaded in that regard. But, by just letting that moment happen without technical explanation to my family, I implicitly told them that even I was just enjoying the magic. Maybe that made my kids feel a bit more comfortable to drop their facades and really wish on a star for just a moment.
In any case, I am left with a memory of a special place like The Poly, and a time that I know will live in my heart forever.
