My trip in March will be my second trip to DLRP. Last year we did not have enough time or knowledge to know where to go and what to do. It was only when we got home and I bought the Brit Guide that I realised just how much we had missed. So help me out and make this trip extra special.

TELL ME 5 THINGS that I must do to make my trip complete:) (I figured this would be useful for others too;) )

Personally I like to get there at park opening, been a step ahead of the crowds really helps the day go smoothly :teeth:

Don't miss the dragon underneath the castle!

There's a Dragon underneath the Castle?

Could you please elaborate on this?!?

You've got to do a Good Morning Fantasyland Breakfast and 'do' fantasyland early and dinner at Annette's with the dancing/rollerskating waiting staff.

We have a fabulous "living breathing" dragon under our Castle - here's a photo!!!

Yes there is a huge dragon under the castle. When the park opened in 1992 the dragon was the biggest Audioanimatronic figure in the world. And the dragon is still very impressive! But be carful your kids might get a shock! :smooth:

I've a one minute video (of the dragon) that I'd load up if I knew of a site where to put it :confused3

IMO...

1. Do Breakfast in Fantasy Land. We got to ride to it in one of the Main Street cars - it was great fun :thumbsup2 We're not big breakfast eaters so we grabbed some breakfast and then rode several rides long before anyone else ever arrived.

2. Big Thunder Mountain is, IMO, better at DLP than WDW. Certainly good fun!

3. The fireworks in the evening, obviously. I took my friend when we were 18 and he LOVED it (yes, an 18 year old guy LOVED the Disney fireworks - this is testimony to how good they are if ever I saw one). Hint: if you can't find a bench, sit in front of a lamp post on Main Street/towards the castle - we waited sitting on the floor for two hours and it was nice to have something to lean back on.

4. Annette's diner was WONDERFUL. We ate there for lunch on our last day and were so stuffed that we didn't eat again until we got home in the UK at 11pm! The milkshakes, the burgers, the desserts...SO good :hyper:

5. Pirates of the Caribbean is another of the rides which is actually better at DLP than it is at WDW. There are two short drops rather than just one.

Other hints:
Star Tours, Honey I Shrunk the Audience and Armageddon and the Backlot Tours (Catastophe Canyon) are great rides. Space Mountain is MUCH more intense than at WDW here - it's mega fast and mega-scary.

There's an ESSO garage right outside the Santa Fe hotel. It sells much much cheaper goods than you can find in the theme parks.

The Rain Forest Cafe is great - take a look around even if you don't eat there - the food was overpriced IMO but the atmosphere is great.

When greeting a cast member, greet them in the language you want to converse in. We found that if we said "Bonjor" back to them, they rattled on in french - whereas if we said "Hello", they knew to speak in English (our french ain't great...)

My DLP photos are here:

We stayed at the Santa Fe and travelled in July - the weather was great :thumbsup2 :sunny:

That is SOOOOOOOOO KEWL! :thumbsup2

I not gonna tell DD about it!

I'll just keep telling her that I'll feed her to the Dragon! :lmao: :lmao:

Makes me want to go even if DCL isn't goin' over!

Thanks!

Thanks guys - great ideas so far (that I am storing away!).

Can someone tell me a little more about the Fantasyland breakfasts. We are staying at the Disneyland Hote - can we stil do the breakfast? How do you book it and where do you eat (I know NOTHING about it!)

We did visit the dragon last year - albeit VERY briefl because my then 4 yr old FREAKED when the dragon came to life LOL - dare we try it again!

Jill - we have booked a character meal at Mickeys Cafe and also Buffallo Bills:) I am glad to hear that both come recomended

Cyrano - we will be trying both of your suggestions (hopefully panoramagique will be operating). How long does the Lion King show last?

If you're staying in the Disneyland Hotel, you can't actually do the Fantasyland breakfast - you can only do it if you're staying in Santa Fe, Cheyenne, Newport Bay or the Sequioa Lodge.

Don't worry!! You'll get to eat breakfast in a beautiful restaurant, with Disney characters!!! The Fantasyland breakfast is a good perk to those staying the other hotels, but I can't imagine it's a patch on the breakfast you will be having!!

BTW I forgot to mention my "must do". If we've got the time, we like to take a couple of hours to have a wander round the other hotels.

It wasn't until I dsicovered this board that I realised you could even go into the other hotels as a non-guest! We may even try eating in another hotel if there is a good enough restaurant. My 8yr old has also persuaded me to go skating at NYH (i'll be the one flat on my back :rotfl2: )
