DH, me and 3 DS (10,13,15) will be staying st HRH in Feb. Standard room. The website shows a max occupancy of 5, but I think that means we have to pay an extra $25/night for a rollaway? Yikes! What size are the beds in the standard rooms--queen or double, and/or is there some sort of couch. We can't bring an airmattress (flying). Any suggestions that will make it so we don't have to get the rollaway?

You could check on a queen deluxe room. It has 2 queen beds and a full/queen size pullout. The rollaway would cost extra you are correct but it is optional and others have brought their own extra bed (inflatable).
The deluxe room for 5 is awesome. We just stayed in one with 5 of us in May.
Lots of extra space.
The standard rooms have either one king or two queens.

We have flown quite a bit with air mattresses. A twin air mattress fits very nicely in the corner of a suitcase.

You might want to give it a try if you don't want the roll-away.

How did you blow it up? Ours that we use for camping have a pretty big pump...

We picked up a cheap one from Target. The pump that came with it was palm sized. You twisted it into the hole and it took less than a minute to inflate it. We would inflate at night and deflate in the morning to gain more room back. It actually worked out better than the rollaway in that we could gain the room back. :goodvibes

Our more expensive aerobed has a built in pump. Just push a button and it inflates.

BTW - all the beds are either king or queens in all the rooms.

Have a great trip!

We have one of the Target $18 ones too. Even on our last hotel stay (nearby a couple weekends ago) when we found the batteries had died, we were able to just use a hair dryer near the hole to do most of the inflation (in about 2 minutes), then it has a kind of hand pump thing (think CPR :confused3 ) to fill the rest of the way.

We're also staying at Universal but RPR. However since we're also flying and only staying one night there, we'll just fold the bedspreads into a sort of "mattress" for that one night and bring a blanket from the house we'll be renting. Most hotels will bring you an extra blanket if you wanted to go this route, but I probably wouldn't for more than one night.

If you're staying a long time and will have a car, maybe just a quick trip to Target once you're there. But I do think we could easily fly with ours - it probably only weighs a few pounds with the pump and the carrying bag is maybe a foot square by about 4 inches high. Either way you'd come out ahead on the $25 per night!

Queen size beds fit two people. Here is what one looks like at the HRH.

There is a superwalmart about 5 miles north of the parks on Kirkman Road.
Visit the web sites for www.target.com and www.walmart.com to located the store.

In the future, you may want to stay at the PBH, it actually costs less than the HRH these days. But the PBH has bigger rooms, and you could blow up the air mattress and put it in the bathroom. The bathrooms at the PBH are like an extra room, they are huge. It's my favorite hotel.

Op, not to take over your thread. But, I have a question. My family is also a family of 5 staying at the RPH, standard room. Ok, the ages of my children are 13, 3, 5. They couldnt all fit in the queen standard bed? Has anyone done this with little children, and one big kid? That way i wouldnt have to bring the mattress all together. TIA

I'd just say it depends on your kids and what they're used to. My kids strongly rebel when I made 2 of them share a queen bed at a hotel (he kicks/takes the blankets/snores/hits, etc.), which is part of the reason we're renting a house on our next trip other than the one night at Universal.

However, I have a friend with 2 boys and 2 girls (all in the elementary through middle school range) and they always just get one room at normal hotels (never been to Disney) and she sleeps with the 2 girls and her DH sleeps with the 2 boys. I would go crazy if I had to do this, even when my boys were very young.

Guess I'd say if they all have their own rooms and beds normally, it might be tight. If they're used to sharing a room or have no problem sharing beds at hotels or whatever, you might be fine. Also probably depends on the length of stay - for one night, if it's not working, you could always put the 3 year old in your bed. If you're staying a week, I might make alternate plans!

One more possibility - is a pack and play free at Universal resorts? My youngest was about average size for his age and I know he used one on a trip when he was almost 4. He hadn't been in a crib at home for 2 years, but it was like his private "fort" that he could hide in and his brothers weren't allowed in. If your youngest isn't huge, you could check into that and play it up more that way!

I am debating this route, as well as piling the blankets on the floor. DO you need to bring sheets too? Are there extra pillows in the room, or do we need to ask? It's only for 2 nights, but I am not sure I am comfortable w/DS sleeping on the floor. I guess we could put him with us or his brothers, and get the rollaway if it is a nasty scene ;)

We've used the small polartec type sleeping bags. You can usually get them in kids sizes somewhere like Target for around $10. They take up very little room (think airline blanket) but zip up so your kid is entirely inside it. We usually brought one of these and then asked for extra blankets if we needed them. This keeps them from sleeping directly on the hotel blankets/bedspreads or air mattress if this is what you're using which makes me feel better because although I believe they wash sheets regularly, I'm not sure how often they wash the other stuff!

We also have a small travel pillow (maybe 4x6 inches) which I actually always use since I'm picky about pillows and don't like the big, poofy ones. When I use this, that means there is always an extra so we don't have to ask for one. I believe most hotels will always give you extra sheets and blankets if you call housekeeping - only had trouble once with this at a Super 8 where they INSISTED that they had no extras in the entire hotel.

Alternatively you could just get a cheap sheet closeout somewhere (I frequently see twin sets under $10) and just bring the flat sheet (washed first) and fold it in half like a sleeping bag on top of the bedspreads and under blankets and just toss it when you leave. Or bring an old set that your kids don't use any more that'd you'd be tossing or donating soon anyways.

My kids are 11, 7 and 5. We stayed in the HRH in October....the 7yo actually pushed the desk chair over to the comfy chair and made her own "bed" there. She loved it.....it was quite amusing :lmao:

My husband, and DS's 14, 12, and 8 just stayed one night at HRH on December 18. I had booked a standard room and was hoping for a free upgrade to a deluxe room once we got there. No dice. So I paid $100 for the upgrade, which gave us quite a bit of extra space, plus the pull out sofa. We were really glad that we paid the extra money. The room was nice and spacious. We would do it again. BTW, my boys loved the HRH and wanted to stay longer. The pool was really nice and they liked the music that was played.

We have brought sheets, but many others have said they requested extra sheets from Star Services and they were delivered with no problems.

The last time we stayed at RPR, we had the aerobed that had the built-in sleeping bag with it, so no need for sheets.

However, now we always stay at the PBH due to all the rooms now having a pullout couch or chair. (Also, the suite upgrades for Platinum are wonderful)

I slept in a bed with my two DDs who were 7 and 9 at the time. I'm a regular sized mom. We had ample room.

Hi,
We stayed at the Hard Rock Hotel with 2 adults and 3 teenagers. We had reserved the regular room (not deluxe) and assumed that there would be 2 beds and a couch or something for the 5th person. We checked in with 5 people and didn't realize til we got to the room that we needed the rollaway. (you'd think someone would have mentioned it at check in) I was mad about it, because we had stayed at a Disney hotel the past few nights and there was plenty of room for the 5 of us. I was very glad that we were only there 1 night because the room was so squished with the rollaway in it. The hotel was great though. We loved it, other than the squished part.

Lots of people bring air mattresses along for their fifth person. Glad you had a nice time!!!
