Wow another wonderful movie night. I love the costuems too. How fun. I feel like such abum here.
I wondered what they were doing to the Tiki room. I have only been to it once just a few years ago. It was Ok, but not one we wil lrush back to.

I just saw that they are renovating and returning tiki room to classic... since I never got to see the original and was underwhelmed at the "new management" I look forward to seeing it... of course it will be re-opening after we go.

Hi everyone! Tonight was our movie night and once again I was really, REALLY looking forward to it. Last week was Haunted Mansion, a treat for Ariana. So this week, I wanted one that would really appeal to Demetri. Ariana loves this movie too, but this was new to Demetri and I knew he would love all the humor, sooooo....... my choice?

Hercules!!




One of my ultimate favorite movies. When Alex and Ariana were little, they watched this so often we've memorized most of the lines. The scene where Pain and Panic are first beckoned by Hades and come tumbling down the stairs, Hades with the Fates.... in fact any scenes Hades is in are just too funny. Besides Malificient, he's one of my favorite villans. Oh and I love the music too.



Anyway, you'd think this Greek theme would give me plenty of things to choose from for a family night but it's turned out so far to be the hardest to search for. In the end though, it was a fantastic night and of course most importantly, the kids loved it. Alex even got his homework done early so he could join us the entire night. He loved it and had a lot of fun.



The setup.....

(See the little blue handprints in the bottom right of this picture? Our dining room used to be closed off and used as Ariana's therapy classroom when she was younger. Those are her little hands when she was finger painting one day. Even though we know we have to resurface this fireplace we'll hate losing the handprints. )

For decorations I just printed out pictures of the various characters in the story and then put more of Zeus' lightning bolts all around.

It was fun to pull out some things we had around the house and use for the decorations. George is Greek and we honeymooned there so I put a few pieces from our collections on the table. We had pictures of Herc, Meg and Hades with lightning bolts and little stars scattered everywhere. You can't see it from this picture but Hades is taped to a Greek pillar.

This plate is actually of Zeus and Hera.


The menu was nice and easy. I'd again downloaded a Greek font and used it for our Welcome sign as well as our dinner labels.

Hercules Hamburgers (George BBQ'd these for us before he went to work!)
Phil's Feta (with a dash of olive oil and oregano)
Pegasus Pie (store bought apple pie)

Hades Hot Fries (actually roast potato wedges )
Megara's Macaroni Salad


Delicious and the kids couldn't wait to do their craft. VERY simple but fun 'make your own Olympic medal' project.

Foam pieces cut into round shapes, tin foil, wide ribbon. First they covered their foam piece with the tin foil.

We taped the ribbon onto the back and had the open ends to tie easily around their necks. Next, using the lightning bolts and stars from the table decorations, they glued them however they wished either onto the medal or onto the ribbon.

Then we let the finished products dry on the table as we went to watch the movie.

Smashing success, Demetri was laughing his face off, Ariana loves Meg's song "I Won't Say I'm In Love" and Alex thoroughly enjoyed himself too seeing this old favorite.

I get most of my ideas from the family night thread, but I must admit my favorite was Phil's Feta -- and that was mine! Meg is a great character - strong and funny, some of the funniest lines from the movie are hers.

Thanks Amy! We have a lot of fun with them. My co-worker says he wants to start doing them with his son now too. He's not planning for a trip, he just wants to do them for fun.
