I am starting my dining review today. Can't promise when it will be finished, because I have a lot to cover, but I will begin here! I will start out by saying we are a family of 4, me age 31, DH age 31, DS age 3 and a half, and DS age 14 months. We felt we had PLENTY of food on the regular DDP.

We arrived July 13, 2008, and were staying at the Pop Century resort. Our room was ready when we arrived at 10:45 AM, so we dropped off our luggage, and headed to the food court for an early lunch before hitting MK. I had the Mediterranean chicken flatbread which was huge and excellent, along with a bottle of water to drink, and a chocolate coated Mickey rice krispie treat for dessert! DH had a philly wrap & fries with an iced coffee drink and a Haagen Dazs ice cream bar. DS3 had a cheeseburger and fries with applesauce for dessert and a milk for the baby (we had juice with us for DS3). The kids had enough food to share between them, and I also gave some of my chicken to the little one. We loved this meal! Excellent food!

That night, we had dinner at Liberty Tree Tavern at MK. We had a 5PM ADR and we arrived at 4:50. We waited less than 20 minutes for a table. Character interaction was excellent. Minnie Mouse fed DS3 when I told her he was too excited to eat, and DS3 loved that! DS1 was enthralled with the characters, especially Minnie Mouse. Couldn't take his eyes off her! Food was wonderful. Delicious roast beef, ham and turkey, gravy, warm rolls with honey butter, green beans, mashed potatoes, mac and cheese. Wonderful dessert of warm apple cobbler with vanilla ice cream. All brought to the table family-style so we did not have to get up to serve ourselves! We loved this place!

I used one snack credit that day on a dole whip at Aloha Isle in MK. Excellent! Huge, we all shared it!! I got the dole whip swirled with vanilla and it was out of this world! Definitely try this if you like pineapple!

Other restaurants you can look forward to in my reviews:

CS: Tangierine Cafe in Epcot; Pizza Planet in the Studios; Flame Tree BBQ in Animal Kingdom; Cosmic Ray's STarlight Cafe in MK

TS: Biergarten dinner in Epcot; 1900 Park Fare dinner in Grand Floridian; Boma dinner in AK Lodge; Crystal Palace dinner in MK; Hollywood & Vine breakfast in Studios; Chef Mickey's Breakfast at Contemporary

We paid out of pocket for the 2 character breakfasts, and used DDP for all the dinners.

Can't wait to hear more!! Our family will be dining at some of the same restaurants in November.

Day 2, we had breakfast in the room. I had packed some cereal bars and packaged bagels for the boys and us. I bought the half gallon of milk at the Everything Pop Shopping and Dining.

This was our Epcot day. I was determined to have lunch in Morocco, though it was far from where we were in Future World in the morning. We rode Test Track at 11:30 (our last attraction in Future World) with Fastpasses, and then walked to Morocco and ate at the Tangierine Cafe. This was well worth the walk! We each had the platter with the chicken and lamk shawarma, which came with a delicious couscous salad, hummus, moroccan bread and tabouli. I loved everything. DH did not care for tabouli but loved everything else! The kids shared chicken fingers. Came with applesauce (I think...this one's hard to remember) and we all got baklava for dessert. Delicious food and fantastic baklava! Also plenty of indoor seating when we went a little after 12. Loved this place!

We went back to the room for a break at about 2PM. We returned for our 5:30 ADR at Biergarten in Germany. We got there earlier, like 4:30, son we could explore some of the other countries' shops and sights. We loved Biergarten! We love German food and this was the place to be! The buffet is very high quality food for a buffet. Pork schnitzel, sauerbraten, and herring salad were all top notch. Also sampled some German sausages, and the pretzel bread was delicious! They had regular mustard and also a delicious sweet mustard. Try both...out of this world! Black forest cake, bavarian cheesecake, and delicious apple streudel with vanilla sauce for dessert. DS3 enjoyed vanilla pudding with chocolate chips in it for dessert!

We also snacked around the world that day. In the afternoon, I picked up some schoolbread in Norway and brought it back to the room. It was HUGE! and only one snack credit! DH and I shared it and it was still plenty! Try this...like a donut, but a lot less sweet a dough, with custard, then frosted lightly and topped with sweet coconut...delicious! Believe it or not, we also snacked after dinner. We had a churro in Mexico, although the lady told DH it is not supposed to be a snack credit, she allowed us to have it as a snack credit anyway. We had chocolate mousse in France too which was out of this world! Definitely use your snack credits here in the different countries if on the DDP. Only problem was deciding what to get in France because everything looked so great!

I actually have to go give dinner to my family now. Stay tuned for Day 3, which was the Hollywood Studios!

Okay, Day 3 was the Hollywood Studios. We went on a morning without EMH because we went to the character breakfast at Hollywood & Vine. My kids love Playhouse Disney so this one was a must for us! Character interaction was excellent at this one! JoJo & Goliath came to our table, as did Leo and June from Little Einsteins. This is the only character meal with Playhouse Disney characters, besides the ones from "Mickey Mouse Clubhouse" obviously... ;) . The food was wonderful. They actually had dessert set up too even though it was breakfast, including ice cream! The food was: scrambled eggs, Mickey waffles, frittata with veggies and cheese, corned beef hash, bacon, sausage, cereals, pastries, fruits, hot apple crisp, rice krispie treats, banana bread pudding, ice cream. Great coffee too, I must say! DS3 danced with Goliath and June and the hostess. June came back to our table afterwards and gave DS3 a little more attention which he loved! Thumbs up for this one!

For lunch, we went to the Toy Story Pizza Planet. Bring from Brooklyn, NY, I refused to get the pizza here, plus I ate so much at breakfast that I needed something light. So I got the Pizza Planet Chicken salad. Wow was this delicious, and just what I needed! Not small but not too huge either. Excellent lowfat olive oil balsamic vinaigrette on the side too! And this was the only time in my life I ever ate cantaloupe (comes in the salad) and loved it! My mom has been trying to get me to eat cantaloupe and like it ever since I was a little kid, summer after summer and it never worked, and I am 31! But this time I loved it! The chicken was cold in the salad which was nice for me because I did not want anything hot this time! DS3 and DS1 shared the cheese pizza. Kids get an adult meal here on the DDP because there is no kids' menu. DH had the veggie pizza and salad. We both had apple slices for dessert which I did not like...they were packaged apple slices and I don't like the aftertaste of whatever they use to keep them from browning...left a bitter taste in my mouth and I stopped after only one piece. The kids shared a sugar cookie which I tasted and was delicious! I must say...I did try a bite of the kids' pizza and it was better than I thought it would be. Still not my style, but edible for sure, and if I had gotten the pizza I would have eaten it without a problem. And I hate Domino's to give you an idea! What was really nice here was that there was a cast member working in the area, cleaning up. She loved our kids so much that she gave them each a free souvenir cup with Buzz Lightyear on it! DS3 was thrilled of course, as Toy Story is one of his favorite movies!! I thought that was so sweet of her!

When we went back to Pop Century for our afternoon break at around 2:30 (after it POURED in the studios!!!), I went to the food court and got a yogurt and fruit parfait for myself for a snack. It was delicious but too sweet for me. Normally I eat plain nonfat yogurt sweetened with a tiny bit of splenda, with fresh berries in it. This was sugar-sweetened yogurt (probably vanilla) with sugar-sweetened granola and sweet strawberries in syrup. Too sweet for me but many people would definitely love this! And DH had one of those Caribou iced coffee drinks...he loved getting that as a snack credit!!

For dinner, we ate at 1900 Park Fare at the Grand FLoridian. Let me start by saying that the lobby of the GF took my breath away from the moment I walked in! It reminded me of an atrium on a cruise ship actually (I've taken lots of cruises before), and the carriage in the front of the hotel before you walk in was also beautiful. 1900 Park Fare was great! Characters were Cinderella, Prince Charming, Lady Tremaine and the stepsisters. The "villains" of this meal were hilarious. Lady Tremaine came to our table just as DS1 began to cry. She was making fun of him and we are happy to have it all on videotape! Then she commented that she was glad that he has to come home with me and not her! Hilarious! My kids were more shy with these characters than any others, which shocked me. I thought for sure that since they are "just people" and not more like "giant toys" they would be easier to deal with for them. DS3 got shy after Drisella kissed him and he had a big lipstick mark on his cheek. He was the most shy around Prince Charming though! I had my picture taken with Cinderella for the first time in my life and that made me happy. Okay the food...excellent! Delicious prime rib! With horseradish sauce! Excellent salmon in dill sauce. Great chicken marsala, and the pasta bolognese was all right (I'm an Italian New Yorker though and have extremely high standards for Italian food). Caesar salad was also terrific. The cold fish salad, with calamari, scallops and shrimp was also delicious. Paella was also nice. They had an Asian station too and I tried the cold soba noodle salad which was very good. Fantastic dessert buffet too! Soft serve ice cream with toppings, rice krispie treats, key lime tarts, cheesecake tarts, delicious mini-chocolate-mousse cups, very cute and just enough of each item to have a little taste! Also cookies which the kids loved!

I ate so much this day I felt like a blimp! But it was all totally worth it!!!

Stay tuned for Day 4...Animal Kingdom!!

So glad you liked Biergarten. It is one of our favorites. Enjoying all your reviews.

Okay everyone, here's day 4!!

We were going to Animal Kingdom this day for EMH morning. We had a very quick breakfast of cereal bars, coffee and milk in the room. DH and I brought a hot pot to boil water and we brought FOlgers singles for the coffee so that we didn't have to wait in line at the food court in the morning.

We were starving, as were the kids, after we saw the 10:30 AM Festival of the Lion King. We walked over to the Flame Tree BBQ. Figured it would be something nice to have. DH had the St. Louis Ribs, which he said was delicious. Came with baked beans and a corn muffin. He did say the corn muffin was a bit on the dry side. I tried it, it was kind of dry, but I think if the had given butter with it, it would have been better. I had the pork sandwich, which I shared with DS1. Plenty of meat on there! Came with baked beans, delicious! We both had the key lime pie for dessert which was out of this world, with that really good graham cracker crust I love. DS3 had the hot dog kids' meal. The only other option for kids is the baked chicken wings, and I knew he wouldn't eat those. He ate the entire hot dog. He had applesauce with it and a cookie (you get to choose two things with the kids' meals). This was an excellent lunch! Although AK does not have many CS choices, we were quite happy with this one and would definitely return to it in the future! Now, if you are from the south and used to good BBQ that may be another story. I am from NYC so this was great for me!

DH decided he wanted a Mickey Premium ice cream bar so we got one before we left the park and we shared it. Delicious!!

For dinner, we decided to try Boma at AK Lodge, figured it fit into the day's theming! We had an ADR for 5:55 PM. Got there early (around 5:40) and we were seated within 5 minutes which was a nice surprise! Tons of different foods here to try, and some familiar options as well! Of course, as with all buffets at WDW, there was a kids' section, so my kids were very happy to have macaroni and cheese. They also offered french fries, chicken nuggets and I think this one had meatballs and pasta (hard to remember exactly, sorry!). Do not miss the salads at this place! They had a delicious salad with chicken breast strips in it, with a cilantro dressing...out of this world, I could have had this for my entire meal! But I only had a little so I could sample lots of other things! The hummus choices were great. Sundried tomato hummus, white bean hummus, and olive hummus. Small pita triangles (whole wheat), naan (delicious very thin cracker-like bread) to dip into hummus! Excellent couscous salad...on the sweet side. I will tell you that most of the food here is either on the spicy side or on the sweet side, or both together. DH enjoyed a coconut chicken soup, but again, only a little so he could sample other things. They had this delicious prime rib on the carving board, carved to order. On the side I had a sauce with pecans in it. Very good! Slow-roasted pork ribs were great but definitely on the spicy side. DH did not have these because he had ribs for lunch. The nut-crusted salmon was excellent! Fufu is a delicious sweet potato dish (mashed) and we both really loved it. They also had curried tofu with string beans, which I tried, but I did not care for this. But keep in mind...I do not normally like curry but still gave it a try. They had tons of other things too, mostly sweet and/or spicy dishes, definitely different spices than we are used to, and very unique dishes. The dessert is fantastic at this place, but I will tell you...most of it contains alcohol! However, Disney is great at informing you of this...any dessert containing alcohol had a sign "Contains alcohol". So my kids enjoyed some chocolate chip cookies, which makes just about any kid happy. DH and I enjoyed the zebra domes, but I have read so much hype about them and although I thought they were really good, I did not see the big deal people have made over them. Definitely had better desserts than these at WDW, although like I said, they were quite good. Chocolate mousse had alcohol in it and was delicious. They have tons of other desserts too, and lots of fruit, plenty of choices to please anyone, and really delicious!

Now I will tell you this...both DH and I had very bad heartburn the night we dined at Boma. However, we both have pretty sensitive stomachs and a history of heartburn, so this I am sure does not happen to most people. I did have to take some Tums that night, and DH woke up at around 12:30 that night with such bad heartburn he had to sit up and wait a while before lying down again. We loved the food at Boma, but I don't think we would return because of the heartburn. I think our stomachs are just not used to different spices, that's all. However, it was totally worth it to experience a cuisine we never had before. We do not regret going there at all!

Stay tuned for Day 5...which was a full day at MK!!

Day 5 was a full MK day! We started out once again with breakfast in the room with the foods we brought with us, and made coffee again with the hot pot we brought and Folgers singles.

We got to MK at 7:15 that morning because it was an EMH morning! So we were there way before they opened but had Fantasyland to ourselves in the morning. By 11AM we were very hungry. So we walked from Toontown to Tomorrowland, and we decided to eat at Cosmic Ray's Staylight Cafe. It was empty when we arrived, so I did not wait in a line, and we got a great table. They have some entertainment here also while you dine, so we made sure to get a great spot and we all enjoyed it! It was some comedy and music, the kids loved it! We decided to go with burgers this time since we had not done that yet (except for the kids), despite this being our 5th day at the World! DH and I both had the bacon double cheseburger with fries, and we shared with DS1. More than enough food to go around! DS3 had chicken nuggets. Believe it or not, even though this place is set up in 3 different "bays" and this one was the one that served burgers, they did not have a kids' burger option. But DS3 was more than happy with his chicken nuggets and french fries. DH got chocolate cake as his dessert. I tasted it and it was delicious. Just very high in calories so don't go for the cake if you are watching. I got strawberry yogurt for my dessert, it was the light yogurt, but I gave mine to the baby. I did not feel like having much dessert. DS3 had applesauce. The burger was way better than I expected. I was pleasantly surprised, and DH commented, "Wow, this is actually really, really good!" We loved Cosmic Ray's, but get here early! By the time we left the lines were really long, and tables were very crowded. We got there at just the right time. The topping bar is awesome here too! They have everything you can think of, including sauteed mushrooms and onions which DH and I enjoyed on our burgers! I thought this was an excellent CS place to have lunch, or even dinner if you are not going to TS restaurants for dinners! They also have a "bay" where you could order chicken dishes, and a third one where they have wraps and stuff like that. All in all, an excellent choice with something for everyone! Just be aware that if you want something at a different bay, you have to wait in line twice, same concept as the food court at Pop Century.

We did some more attractions at MK, then walked up Main Street looking in the shops. I had heard so much about the Main Street Bakery that I had to try something. DH and I decided to share something. This was about 1:30PM. Everything looked so good that is was very hard to decide. Then it hit me...I saw this colossal (and I do mean COLOSSAL!) honey cinnamon bun and I just knew we had to try it! Holy cow, was this delicious! Excellent, warm, with delicious icing on top and dripping to the bottom onto the plate! A wonderful snack choice, but huge, so share it with someone you love!!

We decided to take an afternoon break and relax in the hotel room. DH went out to buy a picture frame at the hotel store, and I called him on his cell phone to ask him to pick me up one of those Mickey premium ice cream bars. (So much for not wanting dessert at lunchtime, huh?!). He brought it back to me and it was delicious of course!

After we took the afternoon break at the hotel, we went back to MK for our dinner ADR at Crystal Palace. ADR time was 6:10 but we arrived very early, at 5:40. We waited maybe 5 to 10 minutes and got seated early, a pleasant surprise! This was a wonderful dinner. Character interaction is great, and my kids were very excited, especially DS3 who loves the Winnie the Pooh characters! Tigger (DS3's favorite) led a parade right after coming to our table and interacting with the kids, and DS3 marched in it. Excellent video once again! This was really cute and lots of fun for the kids. The food...well, delicious! The best salmon! I want the recipe! Not spicy, even though it says "Ancho chile rubbed salmon" so don't letit deceive you! It is delicious! They also had ancho chile rubbed pulled pork which was delicious, a carving board with roasted sirloin. Also delicious! Excellent choices for salads, peel and eat shrimp, etc. Pizza, mac and cheese, chicken nuggets for the kids. My kids were happy of course! An excellent display of desserts and I tried most of them! There are two dessert tables and they are different, so go to both of them, although your waiter will tell you this when you first sit down. The peanut butter cake is out of this world, as is the carrot cake! Soft serve ice cream with toppings was DS3's choice. I also had a hot apple cobbler with some of the soft serve vanilla ice cream...delicious! They had a chocolate trifle with whiskey in it which DH loved, and a really great banana bread pudding with Irish cream sauce! Everything was so good, we were so stuffed!!

This was yet another day of pigging out at WDW for us! We loved it! Delicious food! I will also review our last meal now, which was the following morning...

On day 6, the day we left, we decided to end our vacation with breakfast at Chef Mickey's. We had not met Mickey Mouse at this point so we were all excited. They begin by checking you in, and taking your picture with a giant plate in the background and a chef mickey's sign. Yes, we bought the set of pictures, couldn't resist! It was the only picture we bought at WDW and worth it. They give you a 6 x 8 of your family photo, along with a 6 x 8 of the characters at the restaurant, plus 4 copies of your family photo, 4 x 6 size, for $31 and change. We thought this was a good deal, but we are a family who normally goes on cruises and we are used to high prices for photos taken on cruises, so we actually spent much less this vacation on photos!!

After they take your picture, they seat you. The buffet was excellent. Lots of fresh fruit, bagels, croissants, etc. Then they have a kids' section with PB & J breakfast pizza, and another breakfast pizza with scrambled eggs, cheese and crumbled bacon. Very creative! Also Mickey waffles which my kids loved! Then they have scarmbled eggs, veggie omelette, cheese omelette, Goofy's veggie lasagna (delicious!), corned beed hash covered in cornbread which was out of this world, delicious french toast, bacon, sausage, etc. Fantastic desserts too...delicious cinnamon rolls, chocolate croissants, brownies, cheese blintzes with fruit toppings, etc. Character interaction was great. I told Goofy I loved his vegetable lasanga and he was happy. I asked Mickey why Goofy stands on 2 feet and Pluto stands on all four's normally, when they are both dogs, and he pointed to Goofy and gave the "crazy" sign! It was so funny! DS3 was so excited to see Mickey. It was also his first time meeting Donald Duck so he was very happy. This was a fantastic end to our Disney vacation. It was nice to wake up, and still be in the fantasy and magic even though we were leaving that day. It made going to bed the last night a little easier with something to look forward to in the morning.

I had 2 snack credits left on the last morning, so while we were at the Contemporary, I went into the Grab 'n' Go and got some grapes for the trip home and a chocolate coated Mickey rice krispie treat. I ate the grapes a few hours later while we were driving, and they were delicious and fresh. I actually had the rice krispie treat 3 days later and it was still good!

All in all we really enjoyed the food at WDW. We are not returning for 3 years but plan to get the DDP again, as long as they still have it in 2011! We thought this was a great deal and it definitely saved us a lot of money. I don't think the Deluxe plan would have been necessary for us since we did not do signature places or dinner shows. It might be next time as the kids will be older so they may enjoy a dinner show or 2, but we will see when we book again! Disney has something to please every taste, every diet, every appetite. My dad is diabetic and I believe he would have an easy time at WDW too! They really do think of everything!

If anyone has any questions, let me know!!

wow, great trip report, you have me even more excited to leave now, can't wait to try all those yummy treats too, thanks for the report

Thanks for the wonderful reviews.

Love to hear positive reviews...especially of places I want to go to!:thumbsup2

I just loved reading your reviews. It certainly sounds like you picked the right restaurants for your family. Your sons certainly enjoyed their character meals!! Thanks for sharing. :)

Thanks Bonnie for a very good review. Sounds like your family enjoyed themselves alot!
We are a family that loves to cruise too, so I know what you mean about the high cost of photos- wish the cruise lines would take a hint from Disney and get the photopass going it would save so much $$ and all those wasted photos would be no more...

Stay tuned for Day 4...Animal Kingdom!!
I think we were there the same day as you for dinner! Did you try the strawberry soup! It was delish! Those little chocolate mousse cups were good too! I was at the buffet with the chef when The Stepmother came to the table so I missed her. When she came back a second time she told me that I was late in a very mean voice. My son got the biggest kick out of that and he is still repeating how she said...you were late! I really enjoyed that meal and I think it was one of our favorites!

I didn't get to try the strawberry soup, but DH did and loved it! Yes those little chocolate mousse cups were delicious!

This was a trip of great fun and great eating! Just want everyone to know...don't listen to people who say not to focus at all on the food at Disney. You could do both...focus on food AND fun, which is exactly what we did and it was a nice mix! Granted, only 5 days of our 2 week trip was at Disney, but I definitely did the most eating there out of anywhere and totally forgot about watching my diet. I came home and I had gained 4 and a half pounds...most of which I attribute to the great food at Disney because I stuffed my face there! Totally worth it and I thought the weight gain would be more than that so I was actually pleasantly surprised...I was hoping for no more than 5 pounds but was expecting more like 7 or 8 pounds with the amount I ate! Guess all that walking does help a lot! ;)
