$5 A Day Means Disney MY Way! Update: OUR DAY OUT!

That does suck! And having to sell your Sylvanian Families collection must have taken a lot of bravery too! (I didn't know they were worth that much either!) We too have had car trouble- our car got to the point of breaking down once or twice a week and we had to get a new one. (Although we took out a loan for it and didn't have to sell anything luckily!)

You will LOVE staying onsite. You'll never want to go offsite again if you are anything like me! The vibe is amazing but the DDP is another huge plus on why we like it too. In fact, we would never go to WDW and not stay onsite, we just feel like the holiday wouldn't be nearly as good.

This is surreal- we are also planning to go to MVMCP on the 14th! I am hoping it will be less crowded than the first, and I only recently found out it will be Veteran's Day on the 11th so I am really hoping that day won't be crowded either! Have you bought your tickets yet? I am hoping they don't sell out.

Thanks! I got pretty much what I wanted in the end, and still might change some ADRs, but I had to do a lot of changing! Did you get into everywhere you wanted? :upsidedow

You're making me so excited to be staying on site! We're going to Aquatica one day and Universal once (both to keep my boyfriend happy) and I think it's going to break my heart to leave the Disney bubble even for a short while.

That's so cool that you're planning to do MVMCP on the 14th! We were also planning for the 11th until we realised it was Veteran's Day. (Although I have heard that it doesn't really effect park crowds all that much!) We've bought our tickets, I wanted to have them posted so I could have 'real' tickets but the international shipping was something crazy so I've had to settle for e-tickets. :(

Off to read all about your ADRs (very excited!!), shall post again soon.

WE HAVE A 10AM ADR FOR CINDERELLA'S ROYAL TABLE ON THE 14TH TOO!!

I AM SO JEALOUS THAT YOU'RE DOING 1900 PARK FARE DINNER!! I wanted to do it so badly but my boyfriend preferred the Cape May Clam Bake buffet menu. I think the characters at 1900 Park Fare will be so, so much fun. I'm going to have to try and meet Lady Tremaine and the stepsisters in the park instead.

Also I wanted to do Whispering Canyon Cafe (most probably for breakfast) but the fact it's a little out of the way made it difficult for me to squeeze in time wise. AND I want to do Grand Floridian Cafe breakfast but I don't think I have room for it :( (I want the citrus pancakes!!).

We're doing Captain's Grille for breakfast too (not on the same day as your guys though)! I MUST have their dark chocolate waffles, they sound amazing..

Oh no over your Akershus Lunch vs Turf Club dilemma. I am totally in love with the sound of Akershus' lunch menu (mushroom stuffed pasta!!). I wanted to do lunch there but my boyfriend (despite the fact I told him you said it was rubbish) wants to do Rose and Crown! Turf Club's menu does look lush though, and it would be nice to eat in your 'home' restaurant.

I am so, so impressed with your list of ADRs.

Oh and we also couldn't book Via Napoli for lunch. I rang and asked about it and the cast member said that the lunch times just haven't been added to the system yet. It's the last ADR we need to get so I am checking the website literally 234234 times a day for it to become available.

Ha sorry for the long rambling comment. 1) It's late and I tend to get a bit crazy when I'm tired and 2) I LOVE TO TALK ABOUT DISNEY RESTAURANTS.

P.S. It will be really easy to get from HS to Epcot. You can get the boat to Beach/Yacht Club and then enter through the International Gateway.

You're so lucky that you got a Be Our Guest ADR! My mom tried for November 9th because we'll be there for MVMCP but it was booked! We called right away too, but we were on hold for about half an hour and didn't get it :/ Enjoy it though! The rest of your ADR's look really good too! :thumbsup2

you're ADR's look wonderful! so happy you were able to get BOG! we have decided to have lunch there (it is counter service) but you get to eat in the castle and they bring it to your table... :cool1:

That's a shame your boyfriend wants you to spend two days outside the Disney bubble. Hopefully Universal and Aquatica are great (we've never been)! It is weird leaving the Disney bubble when you are staying onsite- everything goes from being perfect and 'Disney' to just being... Orlando. pirate:

I was actually wondering how much it would affect crowds, so I'm glad to hear it hopefully won't! Oh no! We were hoping to get 'real' tickets too, but I didn't realize they charged so much more for international shipping. I suppose we shall have to settle for e-tickets too. :sad2: :sad1:  :rotfl:

WOW! That is so weird and cool and ironic at the same time! That would be really neat if we actually bumped into eachother at CRT. Who knows, we may be sat at adjacent tables! :lmao: :cool1: Yes, that is why we chose to go to 1900PF for dinner- I cannot wait to meet Lady Tremaine and the stepsisters! That is such a shame you cannot go there- hopefully you'll get to meet them in the park instead. :upsidedow

How long are you in WDW for? We love to take a midday break from MK and the GFC and WCC are convenient for both of those. For breakfast though, I can understand, as either you have to get up really early or you miss rope drop and valuable park time! :coffee:

ITA, what a great way to start the day, dark chocolate waffles! pixiedust: I can't wait for Captain's Grille even though it isn't one of the 'popular' breakfast options in WDW.

I was in love with the Akershus menu too! However my parents stressed that they wanted to eat at Turf Club, so we've re-jigged some of the ADRs and are now eating at the Turf Club on the 7th for dinner, so I am quite happy! Hopefully I do not regret it and wish we'd chosen Akershus. Darn, if only we had one more day, and 3 more TS credits! :rotfl:

Maybe the Rose and Crown has changed- I know they have a new menu. :scratchin I see you're in Edinburgh (was up there a few months ago and enjoyed shopping but was totally depressed to find the Disney Store had closed!) We just found R&C unauthentic, and British food is amazing, so should be represented as such! :dance3:

THANK YOU for enlightening me on Via Napoli's lunch schedule! :cool1: I had no idea! I may switch around ADRs even more if a lunch one would be better. When we asked the CM she just said it was really popular. Seemed odd though that there was always availability at dinner but none at all at lunch! :rolleyes1

Thanks for all the advice! It has really been helpful! I will be on the look out for Via Napoli lunch ADRs now! :rotfl2: And I shall keep an eye out for you at CRT! (And MVMCP!) :dance3: It's nice talking to someone going the same time as me too- especially about Disney food. I miss it so much!

You're so lucky that you got a Be Our Guest ADR! My mom tried for November 9th because we'll be there for MVMCP but it was booked! We called right away too, but we were on hold for about half an hour and didn't get it :/ Enjoy it though! The rest of your ADR's look really good too! :thumbsup2

IKR! I was starting to get depressed that we wouldn't get in. Keep phoning up- because when we first called, there was NOTHING and then a few days later, there were 3 slots! It has made my week to say the least! pixiedust:

Hey, if you're there on the 12th, you're free to our spare BOG ADR! :flower3: Good luck for finding availability for the 9th. :goodvibes

you're ADR's look wonderful! so happy you were able to get BOG! we have decided to have lunch there (it is counter service) but you get to eat in the castle and they bring it to your table... :cool1:

Thank you! And yes, I am thrilled about getting into BOG too. We were considering lunch there too, should we not have managed an ADR. It sounds like an amazing CS- more TS to be honest! No paper plates, and no scavenging for tables. (Although I have heard the line to get in is often long to say the least. :crowded:

Honestly, I don't think BOG at lunch is too bad. Yes, the line is long but they move it along fairly quickly. We couldn't get a dinner ADR so we had to settle for lunch. Just for reference, we joined the line at 11:15 and go our food at 11:55 (delivered to table). I still want to try dinner at some point but did you see that they already increased prices?! Crazy.

I think it was like $25 for shipping I might have totally made that up! I'm sure you'll see for yourself soon enough.

WOW! That is so weird and cool and ironic at the same time! That would be really neat if we actually bumped into eachother at CRT. Who knows, we may be sat at adjacent tables! :lmao: :cool1:

I will have to upload a picture of myself sometime so you know what I look like and I shall give you a wave if I spot you!

How long are you in WDW for?

We're there for 15 nights, originally it was 14 but I added an extra one so I could fit in more ADRs (not even kidding :rotfl:).

I was in love with the Akershus menu too! However my parents stressed that they wanted to eat at Turf Club, so we've re-jigged some of the ADRs and are now eating at the Turf Club on the 7th for dinner, so I am quite happy! Maybe the Rose and Crown has changed- I know they have a new menu. :scratchin

I was so jealous of your ADRs that I put my foot down and said we're not doing Rose & Crown! I'm not getting on a flight for 9 hours to eat fish and chips when I have a perfectly good chippy five minutes drive away :lmao:. So now we're doing Akershus lunch after all and GFC breakfast the day we were supposed to be doing Akershus breakfast. I've also cancelled all lies in and added WCC breakfast - you're a bad influence! AND now that you've mentioned having a midday break from MK, GFC lunch is really calling to me ;).

I'm glad you decided to do the Turf Club, I'd really love to know what you guys think. We've decided (well, I've decided) that next visit we'll stay at SSR.

I see you're in Edinburgh (was up there a few months ago and enjoyed shopping but was totally depressed to find the Disney Store had closed!)

I'm actually in Dundee, so not far from Edinburgh, an hour maybe. The last time I was in Edinburgh I was accosted for about an hour by a Greenpeace nutter who was ranting on about multinational companies. She was saying how happy she was that the Disney Store has closed down but then she found out it's actually just moved to a bigger store! It's moved to Gyle Avenue, I have no idea where that is, but your dad might!!

:rolleyes1

They just added all the lunch times today! Oddly there is only three sittings for lunch 11.30, 12.45 & 2.00. Maybe you can switch Biergarten back to dinner like you originally planned!? (We're going at 12.45 on the 7th). Let me know how you get on - can't wait to see your rejigged plans.

Epcot Restaurants

Here are some more Epcot restaurants rated by myself out of priority.

(All photographs taken from the DISboards.com)

La Hacienda de San Angel

Hacienda_opening_07-1.jpg

::MinnieMo ::MinnieMo

It isn’t really a priority for us to eat here- we aren’t huge fans of Mexican food- however the views for Illuminations are a small draw for us. The decor looks really pretty too.

Biergarten

::MinnieMo ::MinnieMo ::MinnieMo ::MinnieMo

I am actually quite interested to eat here because of the fun looking atmosphere and entertainment. We love shows and music, plus there would be an opportunity to meet new people (AMERICANS- WOO!) so it looks like a very likely possibility.

Restaurant Marrakesh

DSC08569.jpg

::MinnieMo ::MinnieMo ::MinnieMo

I am not sure about this place- just because I have no idea what Moroccan food would taste like and whether we would like it or not. The actual restaurant looks beautiful, though, and that for some reason actually makes me want to eat there.

Chefs de France

DSC08540-1.jpg

::MinnieMo ::MinnieMo

I am not too bothered about returning here since we have already been and whilst we enjoyed it, we don’t want to go back when there are so many other restaurants in WS to try. (For anyone wondering, I highly recommend it if you haven’t been, and meeting Remy and his helper is such fun!)

Rose and Crown Pub and Dining Room

DSC08527.jpg

::MinnieMo

We do not want to return here by any means. We had the most terrible food (and totally not authentic British cuisine) but it did taste quite processed. I think it was definitely altered to suit a more American palette, but it is a real shame it is not really British... and doesn’t showcase how good the food is our country offers. Raglan Road is a more authentic pub, and it is owned by an Irish family I believe. However one thing is great about R&C and that is the FIREWORKS VIEW! We have heard it can be very crowded on the balcony overlooking the lake, but because the rain had caused them to close it off on the day we were there, it was pretty empty and our waitress let us go down and get a good view.

I would appreciate any feedback or advice regarding any of the above restaurants! Merci beaucoup!

Greetings from Florida! Biergarten is my favorite EPCOT restaurant. The atmosphere is out of this world and the food is delicious. I highly recommend the pretzel bread, it is SOOO good. You will definitely meet plenty of people. Everyone at the table is always so friendly. Good luck with your saving and have fun!

Greetings from MD!!! Of the above mentioned Epcot dining places, we like Biergarten. Chefs De France is nice and the San Angel Inn has a nice atmosphere (we haven't been to La Hacienda). We hated Marrakesh (very bland/dry food) and thought Rose and Crown was disappointing (it was 15 of us for Christmas Eve lunch and some liked it and some hated it...it was slow service and cold food, but I liked my food while others weren't so impressed with their meals). Happy planning! Nice PTR, by the way!

this is really good to know.... less than an hour from getting in line to getting your food is not bad at all for the most sought after place to eat at MK at this time!

That's so nice of you, but we leave the 11th! Thank you though :goodvibes

That is good to hear. I wouldn't mind trying it for lunch to make the comparison to dinner. Lunch looks wonderful too. I did see that they increased prices (wasn't it lunch and dinner?) I think it's a bit ridiculous too. Luckily we are on the DDP so it won't affect us too much (aside from a higher tip) but out of principle? Not good. :confused3

We went to Universal in 2010 and it really was fun, I think you guys would like it a lot, the boys especially! But it just seems crazy to me to spend so much money to stay onsite only to hop off somewhere else.

We are staying offsite for 6 nights prior to our Disney stay... but I just cannot find the time to plan a day or two at Universal! We are hoping to go to a state park, visit MK, visit St Augustine, and by that time there are only two days left. Too little time! :rolleyes2

I think it was like $25 for shipping I might have totally made that up! I'm sure you'll see for yourself soon enough.

Yes- I checked, it does seem like a bit of a rip off! Fed-Ex is always expensive though. I don't know why they can't offer a cheaper option. I'd like a proper ticket though! Maybe we can pick them up from the resort instead.

I will have to upload a picture of myself sometime so you know what I look like and I shall give you a wave if I spot you!

Please do! I'd love to say hello! My parents and I will keep an eye out for you! I'd be excited to hear how you were getting on staying onsite too! ::yes::

We're there for 15 nights, originally it was 14 but I added an extra one so I could fit in more ADRs (not even kidding).

Great idea! I squeezed in as many as I could too! You're so lucky staying for a whole 15 nights. Being a family of 5, we'd would have a horrible time if we crammed into one room, so we have to pay a fortune to get a villa. :badpc:

I was so jealous of your ADRs that I put my foot down and said we're not doing Rose & Crown! I'm not getting on a flight for 9 hours to eat fish and chips when I have a perfectly good chippy five minutes drive away :lmao:. I'm glad you decided to do the Turf Club, I'd really love to know what you guys think. We've decided (well, I've decided) that next visit we'll stay at SSR.

Your boyfriend must be a bit annoyed! :rotfl: But honestly, I am sure you'll prefer Akershus. You must tell me how your lunch at Akershus goes! We'll both be trying GFC for breakfast then- I can't wait! It is pretty cheap by Disney standards too. It'll be fun to compare experiences too! popcorn::

I too was debating a WCC breakfast, so do tell me how it went! As for GFC lunch, I think any excursion to the GF is a fantastic one! I love that resort, and all the little boutique shops. I don't think you can go wrong with breakfast or lunch- heck- I was contemplating dinner! :rotfl:

I think SSR is so underrated- it is beautiful! (Though I would never pay full price!) Often there is a 35% discount so if that and free dining come along, I say go for it! :wizard:

I'm actually in Dundee, so not far from Edinburgh, an hour maybe. The last time I was in Edinburgh I was accosted for about an hour by a Greenpeace nutter who was ranting on about multinational companies. She was saying how happy she was that the Disney Store has closed down but then she found out it's actually just moved to a bigger store! It's moved to Gyle Avenue, I have no idea where that is, but your dad might!!

 Small world! My dad is from Dundee! We visit a couple of times a year- as my grandma still lives there. I adore visiting Perth too. Scotland is generally so much more friendly and patriotic than England. (Plus I am annoyingly short and so fit in more in Scotland to some extent). Oh dear about the Greenpeace nutter raving on at you! I am so glad nothing like that has happened to me. Oh- I didn't know that and am so glad to hear it! When we went, the nearest one was apparently 30 minutes away. There's the flagship one in London so I look forward to visiting that! (There is also a Disney section and Disney cafe in Harrods that I visited but wasn't too impressed... unless you want to buy a Mickey Mouse satchel for £150 :scared1: )

YIPPEE! Thanks for letting me know! I managed to get an ADR at Via Napoli on the 6th, although the fact they only have three seatings is a bit annoying as 2pm isn't the best time! :duck: We love pizza (but Prezzo, Pizza Express, Strada, ASK, etc are the closest we get back at home!) so I am excited. I am currently working on changing plans and getting totally confused! I decided our BOG ADR is too late (we'd miss an hour of MVMCP!) so I am keeping another one I made. ::yes::

Yay! Bank holiday coming up... can't wait. I am midway thru exams at the moment and can't wait to get them over and done with. :crowded: Hope you see my replies (I made them in red)

You will definitely meet plenty of people. Everyone at the table is always so friendly. Good luck with your saving and have fun!

I am so glad to hear that! William is excited to go- he has actually been learning German. Talking to the waiters will give him some good practice! I have heard great things about the pretzel bread- can't wait to try it. Thanks for joining in! Have a great evening! :goodvibes

Hello there! Nice to meet someone from Maryland (never have before!) :cool1:

Glad to hear positive reports of Biergarten. William is disappointed we aren't planning to go to San Angel Inn or La Hacienda de San Angel seeing that he loves Mexican food. We might have to add that into our plans. I've heard the latter of the two has fantastic views of Illuminations. :goodvibes

It is a shame you didn't like Rose and Crown much- hopefully the next time you go you shall have a better experience. We are too fearful to try it again! :rotfl:

Thank you! Thanks for joining in! :cloud9:

this is really good to know.... less than an hour from getting in line to getting your food is not bad at all for the most sought after place to eat at MK at this time!

Yes- that is pretty good! Most sought after place to eat in the whole of WDW, I think! :rotfl: We may have to give it a try for lunch when staying offsite.

That's so nice of you, but we leave the 11th! Thank you though :goodvibes

That is a shame! Who knows, I may bump into you one time or another! :duck:

My First 'Craft Show'

Before I update any more about the trip, I had to share my recent endeavor into the world of business! I got a stall at the local art exhibition (so not really a craft show/fair) and sold some of the hair bows I make! It wasn't too busy, so I only sold around £50 worth- however that is still £50 more than I would have had! :woohoo:

Here I am standing by my stall (with lots of bows sold!)

photo8_zps12bdc7b5.jpg

And here is miserable Rory standing with me... (he was bored) :rotfl2:

photo10_zps046dbc31.jpg

Then to pass the time, we took some other photos...

photo7_zps153b3901.jpg

photo5_zps66e6451d.jpg

I really enjoyed the experience and got invited to another- bigger- exhibition in October- so I am thrilled!

I also have managed to get my bows sold in several shops. Currently they are being sold in one shop (one more to come!), the Post Office nearby and a local hairdressers. I am very happy and having a little spare money is always a great thing! :dance3:

More to come on WDW soon!

~Meg

Congrats on selling the bows! How exciting! Too bad we won't be at WDW at the same time; otherwise, I would ask you to bring some along so I could buy some! :)

I seriously cannot believe that your Dad is from Dundee, that's totally crazy. Where did he go to school? My parents are quite a bit older than yours but he might know one of my aunties or uncles! Now if I do say hello at CRT I won't have to worry about my accent being understood ;).

Oh and I'm annoyingly short too, only 5ft and I look sooooooo young. Every time we go on holiday I set the buzzers off in security (EVERY TIME) and they always ask my boyfriend's mum, 'If it's okay with mum' if they search me!!!

I've never been to Harrods, only driven passed it on a tour bus! I would love to see it though, although I definitely don't have £150 to spend on a bag :lmao:. I have been to the Disney Store on Oxford Street though. It was massive but I felt it was more spacious rather than having a better variety of stock if you know what I mean.

You should be so proud of your bows! I really love them and I'm glad you're making a little bit of money from them. Personally I think £50 is very impressive. So cool that some local shops are stocking them too.

Good luck with your exams! Which subjects are you doing?

Enjoy your Bank Holiday weekend!

Thank you! I made some more today and I am really proud of them. :goodvibes That is so sweet and thoughtful of you to even offer! Thank you. :flower3: When are you going to WDW, then? :upsidedow

That would be so cool! I'll keep a look out for you!
And your hair bows are adorable by the way, I love them

And I will look out for you too! :cheer2: Thanks! I am working on more as we speak... :rolleyes1

He went to Kirkton High. (It was apparently such a dreadful school that they had to totally rebrand it. ) He then went on to Dundee University. Are you from Dundee then? My dad has lost the edge of his Dundonian accent over time... but it still seems to be a novelty with everyone down here. :scratchin He recently played a Scottish pirate (kilt and all) in our local pantomime. :headache:

It's comforting someone is the same height as me... :rotfl: You are similar to my cousin (she lives in Perth, I believe) who is in her early 30s, and yet last year got refused alcohol at a concert. :confused3 :rotfl2: Do you look under 18...? That must be frustrating- I don't hold out much hope for myself now! :lmao:

Harrods is fantastic! You should go... it isn't anything like a shop. They always have designer kidswear on sale... I got a Ralph Lauren dress reduced from £90 to £20... and my mum tried on a pair of jeans reduced from £200 to £50! So it is always comforting that being 5" enables you to get cheaper clothing. (My mum is 5"5 and still fits age 14 for some reason) :confused3

That's a shame... I always thought there'd be loads of stock. Sounds like an impressive Disney Store!

Thanks! I am glad... not many people my age do anything like this. I am excited to make MONEY! :dance3:

Thank you! For my options I am doing French, history and art. (Plus the usual maths, English lang. and lit. and statistics, etc). I am going onto sixth form to do French, Govt. and Politics, Economics and Business Studies, so I hope I do okay in GCSEs. They do seem to be really overhyped though. :confused3

Keys to the Kingdom Tour

Welcome back! One of my priorities for this trip was to embark on a tour, and the Keys to the Kingdom tour really interested me.

This tour offers behind the scenes visits and even includes a trip to the infamous Utilidors! You have the opportunity to ride rides with a guide's commentary and enjoy an insider's look into the running of Magic Kingdom.

You actually have to be sixteen years old to take part in this tour, and luckily I will be seventeen when we go! So it will be myself, Mummy and Daddy who will enjoy this tour. :dance3:

You get to enjoy a meal in a roped-off area at Columbia Harbour House- which I have heard is the best CS restaurant in MK so I am excited to try it!

You also receive a special gift- a pin- to take home with you as a souvenir. :woohoo:

We did have to prepay which was a downside, but I am excited to embark on this fascinating tour!

We did Keys to the Kingdom last September!!!

We totally loved it! From what I can tell, every tour may be a little different. We rode Haunted Mansion and Jungle Cruise on our tour, but some other tours have gone on Pirates too! Even so, we loved it all! But I love trivia type stuff. Our tour started at 9 am and I think we got done around 2 or 2:30. When you check in, they give you a list of about 6 (i think) different lunch options to choose from. I had some sort of broccoli salad which I liked a lot.

I will be in WDW just for a short trip over Columbus Day weekend. (You probably don't have that holiday, right?) :) October 11-14. I just started a new job so we are using our four day weekend to hit Disney!

Yes I'm from Dundee, I went to Dundee Uni too! I have heard all about how dreadful Kirkton High was :rotfl:. My school (St Saviours) was merged with another one recently and the building has been demolished. It makes me sad everytime I pass the site.

Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately, I'm never quite sure) I do look under 18. It used to bother me a little but now I don't really mind. I can still fit into kids' clothes and I like that I can dress a little quirky because of that.

We might be going to London for a mini break during the summer hols, hopefully we can make a trip to Harrods whilst we're there.

You have picked such tough subjects for Sixth Form, I'm very impressed. At my school we had to pick five subjects for our Highers but two of them had to be English and Maths! I'm glad you get more freedom down south.

So jealous you are doing Keys to the Kingdom! I would absolutely love that.
