I am hoping this is the right place to put this thread if not please direct me to the right place. We are going to disney this year and and I will be almost 6 months pregnant. We are going in august and I am already dreading this trip in the heat and as big as I will be. But I do not want to cancel since it will be our last trip just the four of us, my two others are 4 and 2.

Anyway what rides can I not go on, I know the roller coasters/mountain rides, tower of terror but what else. I have seen mixed answers, toy story mania, buzz light year are these okay?

Any help would be appreciated.

Hey there! It's probably kinda wrong to point you to a different site, and I'm SURE that others here will have really good info - but since I've never been PG, the only place I've noticed where they have this info is on www.allearsnet.com (it's in the special planning section, I think.)

I'm hoping to be in your situation, just a few month's behind. If I'm so lucky, I'll probably be sitting on the bench a lot due to nausea. (crossing my fingers, but not holding my breath - after 11 years, it's kinda pointless)

Oh, and hi from a fellow pennsylvanian! I live in Southern Chester County...

I went when I was 7 months pg (at the time our son was 3). Most of the stuff we wanted to ride was little kiddy so I could do most of it. I couldn't do the indy track in MK - my husband did it with him and I also remember sitting out the safari in AK. Otherwise it went pretty well. Plus people always took pity on me and gave up their seats on the bus. That was nice.

I went when I was about 6 months pregnant, it was July and super hot! You have to take breaks and make sure to drink a lot of water. Maybe consider a nap/swim break for your other kids around mid-day, when it is hot and crowded. All the rides you should not ride have clearly posted signs about pregnant women not riding. Just use your best judgment, try to relax, and enjoy your trip!:thumbsup2

I know some will disagree, but I found the little Indy cars in MK to be OK...I went when I was 7 mo pregnant and rode them with my 3yo, but MADE SURE DH was behind me so I wouldn't get bumped. Also, I sat out the safari ride, but we've been back twice since then and if I ever go back pregnant again, I really don't see it being too much of a problem. The only thing I noticed was that it was a little jerky in one spot. Other than that, I'm not sure why they advise against it, unless THEY seem to think it is just too bumpy...JMO. However with that being said, if you do have ANY problems with your pregnancy, I'd skip it just to be sure ;)

Also, Buzz Lightyear will be fine for you, but you might want to check to see what Disney advises about Toy Story Mania. It whips you around in all directions through that ride in order to face the different screens. I, personally, wouldn't ride that one if I were pregnant...I think it would make me sick!!

I've been to Disney while pregnant two times now, and I would definitely skip out of the Kilimanjaro Safari....originally I thought it would be fine, but because every ride is different you can encounter some big bumps and it's just not worth it. I rode Buzz Lightyear and Toy Story without worrying, and Soarin' was also completely fine.

Enjoy your trip and take plenty of breaks so you don't tire out!

Just remember to keep yourself hydrated and you get to do a extra special thing too. You will feel like you have visited every washroom in the parks by the end of the trip. It helps for future trips when your going to go change diapers.:)

Allearsnet.com is a good source, but keep in mind that some of the things they have listed in the page someone else posted don't actually have warnings, just someone wrote in to Allearsnet that they didn't like that ride when they were pregnant. So, they may be things that would matter to you (for example, I remember reading that someone felt the Tea Cups were not a good ride because it made them dizzy) and someone who was nauseated and sensitive to smells did not like Soarin'.

You can look at the park maps for the attractions that WDW actually marks with warnings - they are marked with a red triangle on the map and also on a sign at the entrance to the queue and before boarding.
For Epcot here are the attractions with warnings:
  • Mission Space the sign outside the attraction says that pregnant women are advised not the ride both the more tame (green side) and the more wild (orange side)
  • Test Track
For Magic Kingdom:
  • Splash Mountain
  • Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
  • Tomorrowland Indy Speedway
  • Space Mountain
  • Goofy's Barnstormer (this doesn't have a triangle warning sign on the map, but does say that pregnant women should not ride)
For Disney Studio
  • Star Tours
  • Rock N Roller Coaster
  • Tower of Terror
For Animal Kingdom:
  • Kilimanjaro Safari
  • Kali River Rapids
  • Expedition Everest
  • Primeval Whirl
  • Dinosaur

Soarin' doesn't have any warnings that would affect pregnancy; just heights and possibly motion sickness. Toy Story Mania has no warnings.

The Safari and Kali River Rapids are listed because you can get unexpected hard bumps and drops during the course of the ride. Many people suggest that the Safari is less bumpy closer to the front, but it is still bumpy. We sit in the front seat because youngest DD needs to stay in her wheelchair; we still get bounced around a lot. It all depends on which ruts your ride car hits. I have also ridden it without DD, and have found the front seats are about the same as the farther back seats (as long as you are not in the back 1/4).

G forces are the reason for not riding Splash Mountain. The big drop takes you down at a very extreme angle at a high rate of speed (I think you get to 40 mph). At the bottom, your ride car stops abruptly. That sort of combination of fast speed drop at an extreme angle and then abrupt stop can theoretically cause placental abruption - where the placenta actually peels away from the wall of the uterus. That's the main reason for warnings at Splash Mountain.
For rides like Dinosaur, Star Tours, Test Track, Big Thunder Mountain you are not moving that fast, but experience sudden changes of direction that jerk you around a lot. And, as someone already mentioned, the problem on Tomorrowland Speedway is that your car can get hit hard by the car behind you.

Thank you so much for all your help. I have mixed emotions about this trip but am excited because the kids are so excited and like I said it will be the last trip just the four of us. I am worried about the rides which I think now will be fine and I am actually going to talk to my ob tomorrow about our vacation because my husband and I are going for three days in june for star wars weekend without the kids and I am so sick still so hoping she gives me something since I have tried everything. I think the biggest kicker now will be the heat, we went in june and in september is it any worse in august?

Thanks again for your help,

August is just as hot as June and September. I rode the safari twice with no problems in November at 5 months pregnant. I just braced myself when we got passed the warthogs since that is when it can get bumpy. No problems on Toy Story either I did it 4 times just don't pull the bar down too tight. Have fun with your kids and make great memories as a family of four and look foward to becoming a family of 5!

I went last year when I was five months pregnant. It is easy to see what you can and can not ride as the signs have it displayed prominently. I did make a list beforehand and highlighted the things I could not ride based on some information I had so I could make alternate plans while my husband and sone were riding. It really is a common sense issue. Obviously you can't ride the roller coasters and I also didn't ride anything I felt uncomfortable on. Go with your instinct. The one time I listened to someone else (my DH) and rode a water slide I was terrified the entire time. I knew I shouldn't have rode it and would've been better off listening to myself.

I also have three pieces of advice. The first is to take it easy. Go back in the afternoon and take a nap (if you take naps). Let your DH take the kids swimming and just relax. I was beat by 3:00pm but after a nap was ready to go a bit more. The second is that I found it very helpful to eat at a table service for lunch. I was able to get off my feet for an extended period of time, eat something other than counter service, and the biggest plus was air conditioning. The last is I discovered that the one place I truly enjoyed the entire time we were there was the water park. I could've floated on that lazy river forever. :lovestruc It really made my body feel great to just sit there and float. I tried to get my husband to add an extra water park day just so I could go again!

Was this my favorite trip? No, but I wouldn't have missed it for the world. We had desperately tried to get pregnant for 10 years and this was my son's last hurrah as an only child. This was really more about watching the enjoyment of my family than excitement for me so it made it a different experience. It did give me an excuse to buy a lot of cute clothes for my now 8 month old daughter! What's even neater is that she will be wearing some of them when we go in August. Maybe we will see you there!

I am going the end of August too and will be 5 and a half months pregnant. My dd will be 8 soon and we had been trying for years-and it happened after I told dd we were going back to Disney! We were supposed to be taking a break from disney and were going to move this year but decided to hold off the move till next year so we booked free dining.I usually wait till closer to the trip to tell dd but I was so excited I told her early! Then I found out I was pregnant and I feel like it will be the last time it is just the 3 of us and with a new baby and trying to move soom it will be a good 4 years before we go back. But I am worried-I had pre-term labor with dd starting at 29 weeks and my doctor says every pregnancy is different but I am worried that something will happen when I am away. But I don't want to take it away from dd so as of now I am planning ahead-she knows if the doctor says I can't go then we will postpone it till next summer and take the baby.I have always loved going away but I must admit alittle of me would rather wait.I will take it easy and swim alot!!Good luck

You should do fine. I too had pre term labor with my son (this is getting weird) and was placed on bed rest until delivery. When I advised my doctor about my concerns regarding my previous history and this trip he said the same thing to me and since I had shown no signs of a repeat performance he gave me my blessing and I had no problems. I did make sure I drank a lot of water as well since dehydration can set off contractions as I am sure you know.

Have fun! I wouldn't have missed that trip for the anything. My son really enjoyed it and I think it helped him transition. I had him help me pick out clothes for her and he even bought her a few stuffed characters. If you see a couple in their thirties with an eleven year old who looks about 14 (he is extremely tall) and a 11 month old baby girl in a pink and brown Graco stroller stop and say hi. We'll be glad to meet cha! :)

Congratulations! and hello from a neighbor, we're in D-town too. I did WDW 6 mths PG with my son, May/June and I'm going back this July/Aug and will be 31 weeks along. Although I swore I'd never do WDW PG again, this was completely my idea (DH thinks I am crazy). I just wanted to see DS2 (nearly 3 at trip time) really enjoy WDW again before we disrupted his world with another baby. We went last year but DS was scared of the charaters and not really into Disney yet. Now is a different story, I think his world revolves around Mickey & the castle.... oh and we cannot forget the pirates (ARGH May-me! as he likes to say) Will it be the best vacation ever? Probablly not, but it will be an opportunity to see the magic on DS face and that's worth my discomfort. I know a lot of people have much tougher time with being PG than I hade, I've been very lucky (knock on wood). My advice is check with your doc, take it easy and most of all ENJOY!
