The last time mine missed a full week of school for a vacation, though, was 6th grade, and it wasn't too bad. Now it would be bad. But you'll probably rethink this when you compare the crowds to your vacation last September.

If I tried to Homeschool mine, we would switch from constant nighttime nagging to "do your homework" to all day long nagging.

Both of my parents were in education, too. And I'm doing the unthinkable (to most educators) I'm homeschooling! And, actually, my parents couldn't be more supportive about it. They, esp my mom who taught kdg for 28 years, saw the school systems go downhill. My mom spent most of her days testing in order to fulfill state standards. Plus the behaviorial issues got so bad she couldn't take it anymore--and her hands were tied--parents would come in and complain that little Johnny was put in a time out! She also was the best kdg teacher in the district and parents of both gifted and problem kids would request her. So her class would be chock full of kids on both ends of the spectrum while the other teachers had relatively easy middle of the road classes where the kids were all about the same learning levels. It wasn't very fun for her and I darn near saw her have a nervous breakdown.

KT is challenge...all day. Nick is a delight to teach. He has the attitude of "what do I need to get done today so I can go have fun." KT has the attitude "what can I try to get out of today by whining and dilly-dallying."

Somedays I'd like to throw in the towel and put them on the bus (if they were out of bed in time.) but then I remember.....Disney during peak season!

Just got an e-mail back from Rex himself... its a DB Chamber of Commerce private event... sounds like more fun than our Chamber's "Pirate's Life For Me" banquet the night before. Oh well, guess I work in the wrong town.

Oldest DD starts Kindergarten in the fall so there goes vacationing during the school year!!!

Kindergarten....pull her out. Harvard won't care in 15 years that she missed a week of kindergarten. The best vacation times are when school is in session.
