Karen - I would give Vero a try. If anything from what I saw in pictures before the hurricane the beach is actually wider now. They have ocean view inn rooms, standard view inn rooms, studios, one and two bedroom villas and the beach cottages (3 bedrooms). Something for everyone. Even the inn rooms and studios have a microwave and small fridge. The others have full kitchens.

My kids want to go to Captiva:sunny: (because last year we went there without them...), but I'd love to look into buying some points on the DVC board and doing a few days in Vero instead, just for a change of pace.

I just want to express my sincerest thanks that you and DS are sacrificing in this manner just to qualify excursions for the tourists!!

Truly, you are a Gentleman :groom: and a Scholar!! :teacher:

Let me know how the dives turn out will ya!! I'm getting ready to dive in warmer waters!!

We had dinner with Lisa's Coach and her husband on Saturday night. Jim tried to convince the Coach's husband to get back in to diving. He told him that he could join he and Matt when they dive near where the meets are. I think he is interested. This will actually make the coach happy as her husband currently doesn't have any interest in accompanying her to the various meets. Good job Jim!!!! :cool1: :cool1:

Yeah Jim! :cheer2:

I tried for awhile to get my lovely DW to get into diving, but alas, I need to take sales training from the "Master" ........ :worship:

Good job Jim! Keep the Coach's DH happy and you keep the Coach happy! I'm sure a happy coach is much easier to deal with!

You are trying an impossible sales job, one that I won't want. In fact, trying to get my lovely DW to dive is not even an option.

Hey, How nice! I get a mid-day check in!!

I think I am going to keep a log of the number of days without sun, like Ohminnie did.....FIVE so far...but, it's supposed to come out tomorrow. That's what Annie said, too.

Had a busy day with mom yesterday...visiting nurse, therapist, etc. and she didn't sleep well last night....so I didn't log on last night.

Maybe I'll have a chance tonight.

Seven bottles of Banfi would work for me!

:confused3 OK Mary... Now you've got my gears turning about a vacation this summer. Looking for some advice from all of you who are DVC members (obviously, we are not, though we thought seriously about it before moving to FL). Is the rental board on DIS a good/reputable place to rent points, or is there a better way?

I only want 4 nights (weeknights, at that!) in July, and only want a studio, as we can easily deal with a relatively small space for a quick getaway. How do I do it??? Any suggestions?

Want to work all the details out before I 'mention' to DH that I have a vacation idea for the summer...

Karen, I'd suggest that you do this soon. It's six months away, and DVC resorts do get booked early. I'd rent you some points, but we are fresh out of 2005 points I think. Go over to the DVC rent/trade board and see what's there. You should be able to rent points for Vero for $10 a point, maybe $11, and I think studios in July there are 12 points per night. Contact someone who's been on the boards for a good while (check post count, registration date), and ask them to check availability. Some of them do have references, so ask. You would need to pay them quickly, and you don't have the same cancellation policies as booking with Disney, so ask them about that. Most would give you money back if they are able to rerent the points, but none would within 30 days of the reservation.

:flower: Thanks Diana... I'll look into it this week! You're a big help!

Karen - I've never rented points but I know many people have from the DIS boards and have been very happy.

My advice concerns Vero itself. Instead of a studio you might want to consider an inn room. An Ocean View inn room is the same number of points as a studio. The difference is the inn room has two queen beds, the studio has a queen and a double sleeper sofa. They both have a microwave, small fridge, sink and coffee maker. The inn offers underground parking and is closest to the pool.

We loved our ocean view inn room and the view was fantastic!

I was thinking that that might be the way to go... as much as it would be nice to go for a 2-bedroom with lots of space, we will have just as good of a time (bad English there) in an "inn room"- my kids still love the novelty of a 'hotel' room, tho' I'm not quite sure why!!! I'd rather go 'low budget' on this summer's vacation to pay off the 5/27 cruise sooner...

Mary, I've been meaning to ask how you guys came up with the monorailgreen name??

Well let's see. We wanted something Disney - Duh! We both love the monorail (we have one under our Christmas tree each year instead of a train. :) I love the color green (every car I've ever owned has been green - guess its part of my Irish heritage).

So when Mark was looking for name suggestions I came up with monorailgreen. He liked it so we registered it!

Exciting story huh? It just kind of fits us. Thanks for asking!

Hello again...twice in one day! Weeee....

Today was pretty peaceful...tomorrow the therapist comes again, and that makes things a little more tiring for Mom and us.
Believe it or not, I am enjoying being here...so far. I'm glad I could be here to help.
NOW..if the sun would just shine! Spoiled, aren't I?

Take care all!!

Stacey

:flower1: Good morning cruisers!:flower1:

Happy Wednesday!

It's Groundshog Day - Woo Hoo! Actually I've always liked Groundshog Day because it is also my Grandmother's birthday. Don't take into account much of him seeing his shadow or not. It is February in Chicago and that means it will be cold until at least sometime in March and we've had snow as late as April!

One good thing is we have passed the darkest part of Winter. I can now go to work in light and come home in light (if I don't stay too late). I hate driving in the dark and it is so depressing going home in the dark - makes you think you missed the whole day.

Have a great day everyone!

Patty, where in GA are you? Just curious. Trying to figure out where all of Georgians live.

Angie,
We live just south of Valdosta. Almost on the Florida line. Straight down I-75. It takes me about 2 1/2-3 hours to drive to WDW.

Lucky you! If we lived that close, I think we'd be taking frequent trips to WDW ::MickeyMo or at least to visit my sister & family in Lake Mary, FL.

I guess I'll be talking to you about places to stay when cruise time gets closer. Emily will get out of school on that Fri. so I'm thinking we'll drive 1/2 way Fri. night then the remainder the morning of the cruise. Unless DH & I decide to take off early on Fri. & drive all the way down to my sister's for the night. Boy, is that a long way off!
