No, no, no, NEVER go to Costco the day before a Holiday! Everyone will be there today, buying mass quantities of food!

Along with no Tivo, we have no Costco membership ---- you are right - that does nt sound like fun....

Great, that will help with his dive profile as well as the surface interval time.

Is he advanced open water certified?

No - neither of us are advanced...Do we/should we take the advanced course for our May trip?

I am planning on taking Nitrox wcourse but I am still uncertain of diving with Nitrox due to the "warnings" about gas mixtures and dive shops.

So, please spill you experiences. Thanks....

No BLACK FRIDAY for me!

Who is hitting the stores on black Friday. It has been a holiday tradition for Mother and I. Work interfered with my plans this year to rent her a wheelchair. I have a chance to call a friend to see if he still has a spare. I hate to give up on traditions, even if it is just to the bookstore or a such type. It does not have to be the whole power shop thing.

I made a list and I am not in as bad a shape as I thought.

:earsgirl: I will look for some gifts when we go the Disney next week. I need to pick up an angel in Germany, as I started my girlfriends mother several years ago with that theme, to discover they were the favourite of her dad...(A twofor hit). :earsboy:

I'm probably late ... but safe travels to all of you who are traveling. As you all know, we're staying put. My mom & dad are still here. I have a turkey ordered from Popeye's. It just has to be put in the oven for 2 hours tomorrow. My parents are making rice dressing (think dirty rice) with oysters ... YUMMY!!! They'll also make green beans & sweet potatoes - not together, of course. I guess I'm going to have to watch my dad making the rice dressing so that SOME day I'll know how to make it.

Hope everyone has a great TURKEY DAY!!! And I hope everyone has at least one thing to be thankful for. I know I have a lot.

Ang

Yummy - Here is our menu:

Turkey, marinated in wine and herbs, cooked on the grill, rotesseire style
Sweet Potatoes on the grill
Asparagras, with herbs, on the grill
Home made granery bread
(So far sounds like Sam is doing most of the work)
Stuffing and stuff (stove top)
Mushrooms and sherry
Gravy

Little Bits and pieces (ie olives, marinated mushrooms, etc).
Cheesecake for dessert

Edited to add: butternut Squash soup

And something with the can of pumpkin I bought, just because (Mother does not like pumpkin). Of course I have no clue what....so best go pull out the cookbook to "adapt" something...

and start cleaning before the parade...

Enjoy everyone.

Happy Thanksgiving!!!!

We ate yesterday - I had the day off, so I fixed turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, corn, and rolls. It was quite good - if I do say so my self.... I'd tell the story about me trying to talk Frances through cooking the turkey one year while I was at work - and she didn't take the giblets out of where the neck used to be.....

I'm working until 3pm and then off to Morgantown to see WVU play Pittsburgh in the "Backyard Brawl" 8pm game - should be good. We finally got a place to stay in Morgantown, so that makes it better - but then back to work tomorrow afternoon (today starts 7 in a row.... yech)...

Hope that everybody has a safe and warm holiday...

We won't be doing anything on the May cruise that will require an advanced certification (although both Matt and Alicia are advanced certified too).

Nitrox is a great gas mix for diving. It will allow the diver to lengthen the bottom times and shorten the surface interval. Due to the increased oxygen content of nitrox (28% to 40% O2) over standard air (21%) the mixed gas will reduce the nitrogen loading on the body. This greatly reduces the fatigue the body feels after a few dives. Plus, it's highly recommended for the "older diver"!! (the older you get, the less efficiently your body off gasses). Some of smart alecks call it "geezer gas" :teeth:

The only drawbacks are the MOD (maximum operating depth). Higher % of oxygen will increase the ppO2 (partial pressure of oxygen) and at depths will increase the chance of oxygen toxicity. Not to worry, we are talking about depths below 110' on a mix of 32%.

For instance:
You are planning:

* for an oxygen content of 32% (FO2)
* to accept exposure to an oxygen dose of 1.4 ATA (PO2)

Executing your plan, you would:

* be limited to a maximum operating depth of 111 fsw (MOD),
at an ambient pressure of 4.3 ATA
* plan your decompression for an equivalent air depth of 92 fsw (EAD),
or 3.8 ATA

The difference is where Nitrox shines.

If you want to learn a bit more before the class, check out this link Take the class, it's not hard and when you get past the hardcore info, it's just gas you breath the same way you would air!! You just have to plan your dive, AND dive your plan!!

Now, back to the regularly scheduled program.......

I love this guy!!!!

Another beautiful sunny day today... spoke to my family in CT earlier this morning... they e-mailed me digital photos of the snow... :rotfl2: :rotfl: :rotfl2: .

Ahh... it was nice to sit out by the pool and chat with them on the phone... I sat and watched a huge heron eat a fish in the pond, while my sister sat on the other end of the phone and watched her DH shovel the driveway...

Ray leaves for NH first thing in the AM... should be pretty cold and white by the time he gets there. I'll leave the kids home for a few hours and head out for some Black Friday shopping... I ALWAYS end up working that day, so I haven't gotten to shop in years. Not even sure what I'm shopping for yet...

Hope everyone has a wonderful Day!!! Mary is right... we have MUCH to be thankful for!

Getting ready to call my family, too......no snow there, so I can't rub it in too much.

I liked the little turkey, too. Makes me almost not want to eat any. That's ALMOST!

Better get moving, call the folks, cook the food, shower, eat the food. If I'm not too stuffed, I'll pop in later.

Anybody else watching the parade?? Just saw ::MickeyMo and ::MinnieMo !!!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING !!!

I am counting my blessings, also.

Irene, your dinner sounds delicious! As I said, I'm not sure what we are eating today.

Have a great day, everyone! Hope to talk to someone tonight! Maybe after Survivor?

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! We've been watching the parade most of the morning. Mom & Dad have been slaving in the kitchen. Hopefully the turkey will be cooked soon. I'm getting hungry! I've been munching on spinach & artichoke dip.

Hope everyone has a great day!!!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

We had a little scary news last night. My youngest brother got a ride to El Paso from Phoenix and arrived last night. My oldest brother flew to Austin to be with my parents. Anyway at 9:30 last night they called and said my dad was in the hospital. Wasn't sure what was wrong, but dad knew he needed to get to a doctor. He has gotten really good at knowing when he needs to be checked out. They called this morning, that they are keeping him again tonight, ends up he has a bleeding ulcer. They did the encoscopy?? and I believe were able to carterize the ulcer. My brother said that right after they did that this morning, he was in a great deal of pain

My aunt had her surgery and although the surgery went well, they have determined that this cancer is much more aggressive then they had originally thought. THey are now giving her less than a year to survive.

Anyway, we are going to celebrate today and give thanks for everything we have.

Virgil,

How long should it take my dad to feel better after he had this procedure done this morning. They are supposed to fly here on Dec. 15 and we leave for WDW on Dec. 17. Yikes, that is only 3 weeks away. Will he be okay???

Thanks,

Pam

Glad he's doing OK....

He should be feeling better by then.... He needs to take the medicines (probably prilosec/protonix or similar) that are prescribed and watch his diet...

Thanks Virgil... Hopefully I can talk to him later this evening. He was in too much pain when my brother called earlier. Something about filling him up with nitrogen?? Not really sure

We are off to eat and be merry at the folks house. Got most of the family and extended family, plus dogs there as well. Should be a hoot!!

:drinking1 Happy Thanksgiving to all!! :drinking1

I offgass just fine, but you don't want to be nearby... :rolleyes1

:rotfl: :rotfl:

That's probably the same problem Pam's Dad is having right now.

Pam, alot of times, when they do any kind of scope, or abdominal surgery, they fill you up with gas (air) to push aside "parts" so that they can see what they're doing. After the procedure, it's pretty painful, 'cause ....well...you're full of air, and it has to work its way out.

I'm really sorry about your Dad and your aunt. Very sad. More prayers!

I'm not too stuffed. Everything was really, really good......but I didn't overdo it.

After we ate, we watched the old movie "Operation Petticoat" and then "The Christmas Story". Felt really nice to be with friends and family, kicked back, happy...

Hope everyone had a wonderful day!

Funny you should say that......

When writing that I almost said "OK, door is open folks" but didn't!!

Diving in a drysuit, let your buddy unzip it!! off-gas!! :earseek: :earseek:
