That stinks. Our elementary school kids have an 'agenda' planner that's given to them by the school district...

Hey is tis something that is just photocopied or something??? Even Christopher has this? He is in 3rd grade too right?? Can you give me and idea of how this looks?

Hey, if you send me a child, I will be forced to send DM to one of you lucky duckies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Off to bed.

Oh, I harrass him too... believe me... he's had 18 years of it...

Besides - he gets a hassle free 4 days while I'm in Sarasota next weekend... (but I'll still be DIS-ing...)

I guess that makes us your lucky targets....you can't hassle him, but we are fair game! :confused3

I am either going to pull out all of my hair or turn to alcohol with this girl!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It has gotten to the point where I just feel like, well if you dont care then I dont care. I know that is childish, but I am at my wits end. How can I get this child to do her homework? I have bought her an assg pad to keep track of her work, she doesn't use it. I keep getting notes from her teacher about her lack of homework........How can I make her do her homework when I dont know she has it? I wrote a long letter to the teacher asking for her help. I told her that Taylro has innattentive ADD and needs help staying ontask..I asked her to make sure Taylor writes the work down and get her to initial it...she wrote back saying that she would do that for a week or two, but she expected Taylor to bring it to her on her own after that??? That is the problem now, Taylor does not follow it through..She is in the 3rd grade. She is very smart. When she does do the work she gets A's and B's.....I dont know what to do. THe teacher has requested a conference with me..and I am a little irritated with her as well. Why wont she help my child?

Oh, boy...have we been there! First of all, you need to have the school counselor & the principal in on the meeting too. We have gone around and around with the schools. We've had teachers tell us that it isn't their job to be "policemen"...and watch the kids do their work in class. There are some truly dedicated teachers out there, but they are getting harder and harder to find. I do know the politics involved....low pay, etc....but my thinking is that if they don't truly want to teach, then they should go get a low paying job somewhere else. We need teachers!
If Taylor needs extra help at school, then it's the school's job to get it for her. They may need to do some testing, and of course they will want to "label" her....it's a legal process for the school so that the child can qualify for the extra help. But if that's what it takes, then you need to do it.
If you don't want her labeled with a learning disability, then the least you can do is try to get her moved into a classroom where you think she and the teacher might get along better.
Find out if the teacher has a website for homework. Our elementary school had a phone number you could call, to get each teacher's homework for the day. But then, you would also need to have extra books at home...the school should be able to give you these.
There is NO legitimate reason for a 3rd grade teacher to not be able to see to it that Taylor has her assignments written down, and then initial it.
Our kids have "agendas"...a book that they are required to write their homework in and have us sign, and the teacher initial. They can help you with this....you just have to press. Make sure that you start out with a positive attitude, and only get nasty if you have to.....

The ones our kids have are like small Day-timers...a daily calender with room to write assignments. Even a composition book would work.

Stacey,
Thank you for taking the time to post this advice, based on your experience. I really appreciate it, and I will keep all this in mind when I meet with her teacher. Unfortunately, the 1st year this happened (1st grade) I thought it was her teacher. I did not care for the teacher, but I got Taylor started on Concerta and it seemed to help.Last year in 2nd grade, she had a much nicer teacherm but the same problem. Now again in 3rd grade same problem...the ony time that she had a teacher that was great with her was in K. But I talked with that teacher, and she had a son a lot like Taylor, so she really encouraged and inspired Taylor. She would accentuate the postive about her (creative, smart, etcetc etc) I wish she were still her teacher....

My nephew, who will be 17 later this month, was in a skateboarding accident yesterday after school.

It's amazing many of them live through their teen years! Hope all goes well and he's up and about in no time.

On the 10 night cruise we did an ornament exchange that my Mom loved. It was lots of fun. I know Jeanne will 'play' too.

And she's darn lucky she didn't take the moose from KT! ;)

And we have a lovely Baltimore ornament from Sue!

I've found that removing all "screen" is the BEST way to motivate my kids.....no gameboy, no Playstation, no TV, no computer!!! ACK! They'll do ANYTHING to keep those privledges. The hard part is following through. I hate when I take away TV and then around 3:30 I'm DYING to let them watch something for my OWN sanity!!!!

she doesnt know about the cruise...The thing about her is that she has no fear of consequences..It is like it makes no difference to her...

Mike deals with this a LOT at work....parents basically tell him what you just said....and he says that there has GOT to be ONE thing that they love more than anything that they don't want to give up.....phone, TV, friends over, clean underwear (just kidding)...

Anyway....threaten to take that away if xyz isn't done. And then, the hard part, if xyz isn't done...FOLLOW THROUGH! Take it away....keep it away for the set time (no phone for 1 week, whatever...)

They have to know you're serious and mean business. If they can find any crack, they'll break you!!!
