I have to admit, this last trip we stayed for 10 days at POP...2 adults and 4 kids and boy oh boy, I think some things actually had evolved to the next stage of life by the time I got home to do laundry....Hauling clothes around the resort is not my idea of vacation, but if I had the w/d in the room it would be nice.

Then you need to look at the wonderful world of DVC. One bedrooms with full kitchen, washer/dryer, jacuzzi tub. Heaven on earth!

Alicia came up with an invitation today that has all my over-protective flags waving. Her best friend invited her to camp at Elephant Butte Lake next weekend with her Mom, Mom's boyfriend, sister, and a group of their friends. I don't know the circumstances of the camping (tent, trailer, etc.) but I know they are planning to jet ski. And I know that Alicia's best friend is a good kid, and her family is fairly strict and protective. But it's 4th of July! At a lake where historically, people go to get drunk. Our recent policy is to let go a bit, and let our daughter learn some responsibility for herself, but this is too much for me. She's going to be disappointed when we say no. Good friends of the DIS, would you say no? Keeping in mind that both girls are fairly boy crazy.

If you are really that uncomfortable with it, than no, I would not let her go. But I guess the question you have to ask yourself is, are you really that uncomfortable with the situation, or just the fact that she will off on her own (so to speak) for the 2 days. If I knew the other parents well, and I trusted them, I would let Taylor go, at that age.I would make her carry my cell phone, so I could call her whenever I wanted to. Would I be worried? Yes, most definitely. Thus, the cell phone! LOL NOw, if it is the situation and circumstances of THIS particular weekend that you are uncomfortable with, then no....BTW who in their right mind name a lake Elephant Butte??????!!??!! Can you compromise and offer to pick her up after a day of activities?

. Can I have a do-over?

If only! LOL Good luck with your decision....she seemed like a very mature young lady and I think she would handle herself as such....you all ahve done a great job with her...but of course I understand your reluctance.

How about some sort of compromise. You don't want her to be gone the whole weekend because you have some plans already made, but she wants to go and spend some time with friends. Given that, can you do something like just take her over for the day? Let her play with her friends, jet ski, etc, and you can have a picnic on the beach.

Just a thought (from the guy who sent his 15 year old to CR for 6 weeks unsupervised).

Great minds think alike......now how can I sign up for this 15 week deal for unsupervised 6 year olds?????:rotfl:

Sorry, but I could *never* stand the taste of beer. It's true I could never get drunk on beer....cuz I couldn't get more than a sip of it in.

Now, wine coolers...ah, yes...remember when they came in 2 liter bottles??

Watermelon wouldn't go over well here. Mike can't STAND melon and I've never been fond of any "artificial" watermelon taste....prefer the real thing...
what other flavors do they come in? And can you ship me some samples? ;) ;)
beer=yucky:earseek:

Hi cruise mates pirate:

A few new posts since Friday? I will be reading for a while. :rotfl2:

In the meantime, DH and I have attended 2 memorial services. One was at Bug Shoals and one at sea off Ft. Lauderdale. Travel was the name of the game this weekend. Even managed dinner with my college roommate in G'ville.

Scuba - I think we passed Devil's Den on Hwy 27 out of Chiefland - is this the photo opportunity?

Happy Monday All...

Irene I am sorry for any losses you have had. :guilty:

Sun Country... they were $2.69 for a 2-liter... ahhh... freshman year in college... (my dad was my supplier...)

No, there are lots of people who aren't beer drinkers... its an 'acquired taste'... at home, I am more of rum drinker anyway... Goslings Black Seal, from Bermuda...

Watch out for something new in the next year called "Bistro"... its being test-marketed in Sarasota, and hopefully will be rolled out nationally in the next year or so. It's a wine-type 'adult beverage' made using the same process and some of the same ingredients as beer, served in the traditional way that wine is served... tall green bottle, stemmed glasses. It's GOOD!!
Here's the link to an article about it in Sarasota Magazine... (its at the end of the column)

Sounds interesting...OAK??

Page 601 and nightie night - boy you guys were a chatty bunch on Friday night. We were camping in Stephen Foster State Park - a very neat place. Will have to return when we have more time to play. And yes, camping is fun....but no internet access so I missed:

:cheer2: What your kids will be when they grow-up, but I think we may have the next generation of physically fit medical scuba flyers who practice dentistry on plush critters - Hi Scoopie.

I see port in the future - of two types, wine and cruise. Hum, a new Disney theme. We had a bottle of the Dakota winery port - stopped by for a tasking on our way to/from this weekend. Do you think this might contribute to our falls and bruises - NAH!

Mary - glad you enjoyed your vacation - great trip reports. Will keep reading to hear about the Blue Zoo - I may have been there - will need to google to see location. :earsboy:

Have we definitely toasted Spirt of Aloha for Hoop-de doo - could not follow that thread well at all. :earsgirl:

Later :wave2:

Thanks for reminding me..I need to call and cancel SOA...I am not sure od HDR yet...I dont think I ever got an answer and if I did, I missed it but are there characters at HDR?

. It is terrible when we have to tell our children no and they won't understand until they are the parent. I think I am even more over protective than my parents were .

My parents were very strict with me, and I was a very good kid.. I resented them for it..so I try not to be strict or over protective with my kids, which at times can be hard. ALSO because I have 4, at times can be very easy, because I know the older ones will look out for the younger ones. My older 3 spent the whole summer in Colorado with my parents last year...I missed them terribly, but it was very nice and peaceful...it was weird around here without them though and it was nice to get them back...

Well, here I am and I still haven't made it to work yet this morning. Ashley seems to have another swimmer's ear infection and I am waiting for doctor's office to open up. After being in the pool so much last week at camp and then at the swim meet this weekend, it really made her ears act up. Hope I can get her in this morning because I am out of drops.

I hope she found a speedy recovery....

I am not going to answer the phone for the rest of today. My sister, Nick and Emmy's Mom, wants to go to WDW in July!!!!!!!!!!! What is she thinking, not crowds, heat, humidity, bugs.......

Any suggestions for planning her days, other than the medical office for heat stroke? I can't help cause I have only been in WDW in the summer once.

Thanks, Sue

Sue, I actually took my MIL and Nathan ( who was just 1 at the time) last July and it was okay. not nearly as bad as I had feared. Of course, we would hit the parks early until about 1030 ish 11ish, then we would head to the hotel or to TL for some water play until 2ish...then back to the room for nap/down time and back at the parks at 5/6 ish.....it was very do able,, and trust that pool time and down/nap time really helped us out...
