Uh, yeah, we did that AFTER Earl of Sandwich last time...
and we ALLLLLLL got our own creation (actually, Nick opted for a bag of mixed candy)

It was TOOOOO much.....but yet SOOOO good!

Expensive...we got three of those and a 1/4 pound of candy and it was about $17!

We did too... but I think it still worked out cheaper than 4 desserts at House of Blues (that's where we happened to eat that night.) By the time we got our 'creations', it was 9:30PM, and starting to thunder and lightning like crazy... we managed the last boat back to POR (scary ride!!!!) and the kids didn't get to eat them til 10PM... nice bedtime snack (NOT!) What they didn't finish that night became the next morning's 'breakfast appetizer', as we were checking out that day.

But, ooh.... they are so good!!!!!

Ok, time to gather some opinions. Do you have a laptop or desktop? Which do you prefer, and what brand do you swear by? I have a cheap desktop that we're going to upgrade (mostly for DS) and a laptop that I need to replace since the video screen went out. It's kind of hard to take on vacation to upload the digital pics when there's no screen. It's currently hooked to a flat screen monitor. :badpc: So we're in the market for 2 pc's that we can network at home.

We have 2 laptops and a desktop. My laptop is a Dell... which I absolutely love- its only a year old, and has all the usual bells and whistles... DVD burner, etc. Ray's laptop is older (a Gateway), which is in for repair and a new hard drive right now... (hopefully it's not terminal...). The kids have a desktop that's on its last leg... looking to buy them a cheap Dell in the next few months. All of ours are on a wireless network.

We have two desktops (one Gateway, one built from scratch) and one laptop (Dell)

I, personally, prefer the desktop b/c I like the keyboard MUCH better and like the feel of how it types. I make way too many errors on the laptop keyboard. Plus I like my mouse, not the touchpad on the laptop.

We used to swear by Gateway....but they got cheap. The last couple we've had have had replacement part after replacement part. Finally Mike talked to a higher up at Gateway and they admitted that they were cheapening up the parts b/c through research they found "that most people didn't mind replacing a few parts on their computer in order to make the initial money expenditure lower."

After that revelation from Gateway, Mike got a Dell laptop and LOVES it and built his own desktop---which turned out to be cheaper and MUCH faster/better/nicer than anything out on the market at the time.

I'd give you more specifics, but I really don't have them! As long as the DIS and my email work, I don't care what computer system it is!! :)

Nice sugar high right before bed. Ah, the joys of being on vacation!

Mike had to send his gateway laptop back multiple, multiple times.
And the desktop one had problem after problem --mother board went, power supply went (3 or 4 times), hard drive crashed (i think twice)....

so he rehabbed it and gave it to his mom who had nothing but problems, so we ended up buying her a dell and there haven't been any problems since.

btw, all of our 'puters are somehow wirelessly networked together.

Funny thing is, they were so exhausted that they STILL fell right to sleep! (Gotta love kids who are used to an early-ish bedtime!)

Yeah, Ray bought this one when he had gone into business for himself a few years ago (and Gateway's were the way to go)... needless to say, it will be our last Gateway.

A Karen & Karen TOP! pirate: pirate: Now it's time to get back to work!

Have you been to the new Goofy's Candy Company... specifically, the counter in the middle where you 'create your own masterpiece'... using Rice Crispy Treats, pretzel rods, apples, gingerbread mickeys, or biscotti as a 'base' and then dip in chocolate or caramel, and then in crushed 'something' (M&M's, Reese's, Butterfinger, nuts, etc., etc., etc.) Worth every calorie!!!!!

I sort of looked for this place, but didn't see it. We went in the Villainess shop at West Side, lots of Goofy candy co. items. Is that it?

Guess I'll make the recommendation 100%. We are a three Dell family. We have a Papa, Mama, and Baby (laptop) Dell. The only one we have had any problems with is the laptop, but I think that's because of the teen downloading issue.

I already had Gateway ruled out. Before we brought our Dell, many years ago, we ordered a Gateway. It wouldn't boot up out of the box. Tech support had me pulling cards out of slots and doing all kinds of things :earseek: . They finally said it was a bad power supply; they would send me a new one. Of course, they got the whole thing shipped back to them and I called Dell. Our Dell lasted for about 4 years. We got a cheap e-machine and had to piggyback the Dell hard drive in the e-machine to get to Quicken and other docs when the Dell died. My laptop is a Sony Vaio and was great until the video died.

It's next to Rainforest Cafe... Goofy has his OWN candy store now...

Are there no Apple users? I have actually considered switching, but am too scared that I'll lose all of my excel and word documents. Our pastor swears by his Apple.

I'm sure Virgil will chime in sometime soon.....

He is a diehard apple fan!!

I actually used an apple at the apple store in Easton. We were leaving for vacation and had gone there to eat (Easton, not the apple store) and we were bummin' around until it was time to head to the airport.

Well, I remembered I had meant to order the next Mitford book for Mike's mom before I left home, but I had forgotten. (we've been buying her the series for her to read while she does chemo)....

So I logged into amazon.com right there in the middle of the apple store and ordered her next book and had it shipped to her!! :)

The apple worked nicely. A little weird to use b/c everything looks different, but I'd get used to it if I had one. :)

Thought I'd share this recipe with ya'll. We've been making this a lot lately. It's great as a main course, but make extra to slice up for a salad the next day. In fact, I just grilled some so that I can have it on my salad tomorrow.....

Southwest Chicken

2 tablespoons olive oil
1 clove garlic, pressed (I used roasted, minced)
1 teaspoon chili powder
1 teaspoon ground cumin
1 teaspoon dried oregano leaves
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 pound skinless boneless chicken breast halves or thighs (I pound mine out first)

Combine oil, garlic, chili powder, cumin, oregano and salt. Brush over both sides of chicken to coat. Grill chicken until done.

I still have one in my attic... I'd be more than happy to donate it to your 'research'... :rotfl2: we haven't used it in years, yet somehow, it moved here with us 2 years ago...

I feel like such a bad parent. We only have one computer in the house and it's a desk top. 4 people sharing one computer.....how stone age! :rotfl2:

I still have the origianal IBM portable in our attic. It is from 1985 and the size of a sewing machine. We called it a luggable. I'll donate it to research. The screen is a 5x5 monochrome monitor built into the case.

One day, a grandmother takes her granddaughter to church with her... The child is pretty bored, yet tries hard to pay attention, listening to the priest, who says, "Lord, without you, we are but dust..."

The child turns to her Grandmother and says,

"Gramma, what is "butt dust"?"

And you say you can't cook. Sounds good.
