Sad, but true....it's 3:00 am and I'm laying in bed thinking "you better get up and post before Mary does". My name is Jim and I'm addicted...

:flower1:Good morning cruisers!:flower1:

Happy Thursday!

No problem sleeping last night so Jim got here before me :)

Hopefully today will be a much more quiet day than yesterday. I felt like I was going non-stop yesterday but not getting much done. Must have been that 4 hours I spent out of the office. Oh well just part of the job.

Have a great day everyone!

Ok y'all. I have a confession to make. DH has no idea that I've been part of this cruise meet board & chatting away with folks that we'll be cruising with. He does know that I read the general disboards but doesn't know that there is a cruise meets boards & that I've been chatting. To be honest, I'm not sure how he'll take it. Have any of you been through this before? How do I break it to him that we'll meet people onboard? He's the type that just wants to veg out on vacation and not make plans to meet up with people. What do I do???

Angie

Angie,

I can tell you from experience that the 10 day cruise with all the DISers was the best cruise we ever took. Before that we had either been on our own or with my in-laws. The next closest was the DVC Member Cruise where we met some great friends and had a great meet, but didn't link reservations with anyone.

Linking dinner reservations was wonderful and I hope someone is willing to do it for this group (we are on early) and would love to meet with other DISers.

Here are what I see as just some of the benefits:

You have someone on the boards for the time before the cruise to ask questions of. Take advantage of those of us who have cruised before to answer any questions you may have.

You have friendly faces while at the port. Especially if you get there early. We had great fun in line with the DIS group we were with and with everyone else coming up to us.

You have friendly faces while on the ship and in the ports. I don't see this happening with your children because they are so young, but while we were in St. Martin we ended up on the ferry with fellow DIS'ers who were our tablemates. Their daughter ( a young teen) wanted to go back to the ship but her parents wanted to keep shopping. She walked back to the ship with us!

There is still plenty of family time. We all didn't spend time together 24/7. It was fun though to walk into an event and see fellow DISers. Sometimes we would just wave and sit by ourselves. For example at the Ducky Williams signing we had Ohiominnie and her family a few rows behind us, WVMD and his daughter partway down our row, another DISer a row in front of us, and one further over on the other side. Then the next day at trivia I went alone and found a DIS couple there. I sat in front of them and we waved another DISer there alone over to join us. We had a great time together. So you can pick and choose as much time as you want to spend with other.

Other great interactions I had personally. One morning Mark wasn't up for breakfast so I went up to Topsiders alone. I met up with a DISer who invited me to sit with her family. It was a family I hadn't spent much time with and we had a great breakfast together. Another time I was just walking around the ship and ran into Ohiominnie and her family playing a game in the promonade lounge. I went over to say hi and they invited me to join them. I joined them for a few games and enjoyed the time I spent with her and her mom and dad.

Ok I've rambled on way too long. Hopefully some of what I said will help. I would definately tell you DH about the group. Let him know you found a group of friends you just haven't met yet. Friends that will be there when you need them before the cruise, during and after. Friendly faces that will smile and wave to you and your children. Friendly faces to chat with, but also friendly faces that will give you and your family the space and time alone too.

Thanks for all of the replies. You've all made me feel much better. I'll have to ease Bruce in to the fact that we'll be meeting people on our cruise. I just wish there were little girls near my girls ages. I think there are a couple of boys that are not much older than Emily (she'll be 6 in Aug. '06).

Anyone notice the counter today ... 400 days!!! Ok, plus a lot of hours but it's still 400 days. Before we know it it will be May 27 and we'll be 365 days from our cruise. :cool1:

Yes, she gets to share the Swan next weekend. That is one nice thing about having two birthdays within 2 days, one trip gets them both.
We know about that one. Diana's b-day is May 4, Anniversary is May 7, and then mothers day is close behind. So I just lump them together, usually something nice (just ask her). This year, when asked what she wants. She says: "Victoria and Albert's"! Looks like I'm buying......

:sad2: oh no, that's not fair lumping them together!!! :sad2: You're getting off waaayy to easy - although V & A's does score bonus points...

Speaking from experience - John's birthday and mine are a day apart - same year, same hospital. I was in NICU so, not even together from the beginning...but, I digress... Both sets of parents off handedly say - this is for both of you, one dinner, etc....the kids were the first to complain it wasn't fair - so, we have two days worth of celebration - two cakes, two special dinners....He's in charge of my day and then I plan his...

Of course there was last year, when John forgot my birthday and couldn't figure out why my mom was calling in the middle of the week - like the kind, compassionate wife I am - I didn't say a word - :rolleyes1 the kids and I made his birthday the next day, extra special- he carried the guilt trip all on his own!!! Although, I can't figure out why the kids didn't remind him...

Monica,

Talked to a lobbyist friend of mine as well as to one of the legislators, they don't think the bill about changing the school dates will pass this late in the session. Although the Tourism lobbyists are really supporting it, seems like all of the education lobbyists are against it. I am not saying that it won't happen, but it does look like they won't get enough support this year. By the way, she told me they have proposed this during the last 3 legislative sessions and it never passed.

:bday: :thewave: Happy Birthday to Sharon, & Matt!! :thewave: :bday:

So sorry I missed it - Happy BELATED B-day Sharon!! Happy B-day Matt! (I think Matt's hasn't passed yet... maybe I'm wrong.... if so, Happy Belated B-day Matt, too!)

Yeah, we have a lot of 'birthday lumping' going on in our house too... I'm 2/23 and Elizabeth is 2/28... and Ray is 4/24 and Christopher is 5/1 (he was due on 4/24), so it's a common practice in our family...

We're heading to Epcot on 5/1 to break in our new AP's... but just for the day. We have a black-tie :groom: princess: (yawn) dinner the night before that I need to present 2 awards at (yawn, yawn), so we couldn't make a weekend out of it. I just booked 6/2 - 6/5 at POR for $120 a night... those of you who stay onsite a lot... is that a decent rate?? (I don't even know- haven't stayed in 6 years). I think I'll keep this one from the kids til that morning. (Maybe I can keep my mouth shut til then... )

Hey Scuba... sorry for your blindness...:earseek:

Angie[/QUOTE]

Angie, I will have my granddaughter with me. She will be turning 6 in June after we get off the cruise.

:wizard: Lots of prayers and pixie dust :wizard: We're going, regardless!!! Hopefully, I won't have to carry the extra baggage of guilt around, since I've never pulled the kids out of school...

Thanks for the inside info!!!

A man walking along a California beach was deep in prayer. Suddenly, the sky clouded above his head and, in a booming voice, the Lord said, "Because you have TRIED to be faithful to me in all ways, I will grant you one wish."

The man said, "Build a bridge to Hawaii so I can drive over anytime I want."

The Lord said, "Your request is very materialistic. Think of the enormous challenges for that kind of undertaking. The supports to the bottom of the

Pacific! The concrete and steel it would take! It will nearly exhaust every natural resource I have made. I can do it, but it is hard for me to justify

your desire for worldly things. Take a little more time and think of something that would honor and glorify me." The man thought about it for a long time.

Finally he said, "Lord, I wish that I could understand my wife. I want to know how she feels inside, what she's thinking when she gives me the silent treatment, why she cries, what she means when she says "nothing's wrong", and how I can make a woman truly happy."

The Lord replied, "You want two lanes or four on that bridge?"

Happy Birthday, Sharon! Do you get to go to WDW too?

I think that's only fair!

I will go with Matt next weekend. No, Jim coordinated my birthday party at a local restaurant. Our friends from across the street picked up Lisa from the gym and met us at the restauarant - it was suppossed to be a surprise. However, here is what happened:
Lisa's back pack was open and we were getting ready to leave for school / flute practice. I went to zip it up and saw her platform dress shoes in there (only allowed with dresses, etc) - not school shoes. I asked her why they were in her back pack and she started to cry. All I could see was that she was "sneaking" shoes to school to change once she got there - with her shorts (which are small because she is small) and t-shirt all I could see was the "Daisy Duke" look - not acceptable. Finally, she said "Dad is going to be mad at me". Then I looked futher in her back pack and noticed dress up clothes which is when I figured we were going out to dinner for my birthday. Jim had made all of the arrangements and I ruined the surprise. Sorry. It still was a great birthday dinner.

Isn't that the standard answer to EVERYTHING at that age?

Now that is just plain mean. I like it and something that I would do. :flower:

Now, to the birthday present.

First, you have to understand that I HATE to shop. So, Jim and the neighbor went shopping the night before and bought me way to many clothes. The kids excused themselves to go the bathroom (suppossedly) and returned with two garment bags filled with clothes. (also a necklace and perfume).

It was wonderful. My assignment from Jim now is to have Lisa and I go through the clothes in my closet and get rid of the clothes that are worn out, etc. (Sunday project while the boys are diving).

Now I will have even more nice clothes to wear on our November Anniversary Cruise.

Hey honey, Is now a good time to mention that I need some new dive gear?
