I'd better get on the ball, here. I'm not even up to 100 posts yet. I guess I'm just not as chatty as some people (won't name any names here).;)

I have a '93 son who might be happy to see so many '94 girls on the ship. Not to worry, he thinks they're cute....but from a distance!

my '94 ds won't be any competition for the rest of the '93-94 ds' unless the '94 girls beat him in playstation, love computers, basketball, math and science.... He's definitely his father's son in all things tech related...

I'm finding it really difficult not to tell my '94 DS, Caleb, about the cruise, yet. We weren't going to tell him until we got to the port, but I see now that we'll need to break the news earlier than that. He said the only thing he didn't like about our first cruise was the fact that he didn't have any friends to hang out with. He did enjoy his time in the club, though. So I'm dying to tell him about all of the other '94's.:cool1: He's never had an e-pal (or a penpal for that matter). We've had the most perfect weather here for the past week. I've been spending time outside and only lurking on the boards instead of taking time to post. I do enjoy all of the friendly banter that's been going back and forth...:teeth:

Sandi

Sandi, Mike would enjoy an e-pal when you are ready to tell Caleb! Maggie met friend before our cruise last year and Mike was a bit envious that she had ready made friends to meet on board. Where in Central Illinois do you live??? I have relatives in various central small towns...

Good morning everyone. Another BEEEUUTIFUL day in NY today. Temps are supposed to be in upper 80's if not 90 today.

I'm glad to see more and more kids coming. I have a Jan '96 DS and a Nov '99 DS. I know the big one would love to e-mail back and forth with other kids on the cruise. If anyone is interested, PM me and we could get started. Or, do you think this is too far away right now?

Mary - are we planning a meeting at the beginning of the cruise? I thought this would be great for the kids, as well as us "older" friends. For the kids, this would be great so when they are in the kids' clubs, they will see familiar faces and already have someone to hang out with. I will be more than happy to help with any planning. My resume is long in the planning aspect. LOL:rotfl2:

Glad to see the list is getting bigger.

TTFN,
Maria :flower:

Well, we're definitely small town (or no town since we're out in the country). Champaign (ILLINI country) is close ; I grew up in Pekin; have relatives in Tremont. Is that enough small towns for you to pick from?

I'm having SUCH a hard time keeping my mouth shut (what else is new...). Last night DD and I were out shopping, and I almost blew it!!!! Our plan is to tell them on Christmas morning, but I really don't think I can hold out that long!!! I just keep reminding myself that if I tell them NOW, I'll have to rethink the whole Christmas gift strategy (and budget)!

Hey look... my big mouth scored me a TOP!pirate:

Maria - if he wouldn't mind e-mailing a girl - Maggie loves getting e-mail - her best boy-friend has given her the stamp of approval - thinking it's o.k. to dance w/her during the square dancing unit in p.e. because she's a cool girl - plays basketball, soccer, and game cube...Her only fault - she's a Cubs fan not Astros :rotfl2:

Mostly around Springfield - Athens, Mount Sterling would be the nearest town for others ,Literbury to name a few...I know there's some around Pekin...

DS also struggled in math last year and the beginning of this year. We put him in Sylvan until he got caught up. What a difference that made. I don't know how they did it, but it worked (we could be one of those commercials). It made the whole 4th grade experience much better.
Congrats to Ashley and Mike!

We have run into huge math trouble with DD, as the 'order' that they teach math in in FL is different than NH was... she never properly learned long division in NH, and FL didn't teach it in 4th (or 5th, obviously)- she struggles with it still... I have NO idea how she's going to survive Jr. High next year!! My degree is in Adult education for a reason... I have NO patience with kids when it comes to school, so I am more of a hinderance than a help. To make matters worse, she has HATED her teacher all year... in fact she made her 47th visit to the nurse this year yesterday to try to get out of class.

This just came from a friend via e-mail - it's worth a smile and passing on. Enjoy!

Chicken Soup for the Soul - Daily Serving
No Response
By Donna Parisi
It was the third day my husband, Joe, had been in the intensive care unit following his fifth surgery for the removal of most of his remaining small intestine. The surgery took many more hours than expected. Joe was older and weaker, and he wasn’t responding.
As I sat beside his bed, two nurses tried repeatedly to get him to cough, open his eyes, move a finger - anything to let them know he could hear them. He didn’t respond. I sat praying to God to please help Joe respond - any sign that he might survive.
Finally, one of the nurses turned to me and suggested that perhaps if she knew something personal about our family, she could try to stimulate his response with that knowledge. She said, “Maybe you, as his daughter, could help us with such information.” I smiled and said, “I’ll be happy to give you personal information, and thank you for the compliment, but I’m his wife of forty-three years, not his daughter, and we’re about the same age.” The nurse looked at me and said, “The entire staff thought you were his daughter and had even commented how wonderful they thought it was that his daughter was with him all the time.”
As they were expressing how I looked so young, a little cough came from my husband, and we all turned to stare at him. He didn’t open his eyes, but loud and clear he said, “She dyes her hair!”

Mickeymo - That was an excellent Chicken Soup. Thanks for the story.

I don't think Aj would have a problem with e-mailing with a girl. A lot of his friends are girls. Just let me figure out how to get him his "own" e-mail address and see if I could put two computers on one internet thing. I'm not too computer literate. I will PM you when I get all this figured out.

Thanks.

Maria

Mary,

I just noticed your response on another thread about identifying DISers on the cruise and was wondering something. You said on the other thread that on the 10 day cruise, someone took orders for T-shirts and you made buttons. Are we going to be doing that on this cruise? I would be willing to help or take orders for the T-shirts. Or, is one printed up already that we could just tweak? Were they ordered from a T-shirt store or done on the computer? Let me know.
Thanks.

We really had fun with the buttons and the shirts. gaRy from the Christmas cruise did the shirts and Mark and Mary did the buttons. Great job and it was fun. Still remember the comments: Look, some more of the "blue shirt people"! :earseek: I think most folks thought we were one big family, and of course, we ARE!

Sounds like your volunteering for some part of the project....... :Pinkbounc

ABBOTT AND COSTELLO'S COMPUTER CONVERSATION

You have to be old enough to remember Abbott and Costello, and too old to REALLY understand computers, to fully appreciate this. For those of us who sometimes get flustered by our computers, please rea on...

If Bud Abbott and Lou Costello were alive today, their infamous sketch, "Who's on first?" might have turned out something like this:

COSTELLO CALLS TO BUY A COMPUTER FROM ABBOTT...

ABBOTT: Super Duper computer store. Can I help you?

COSTELLO: Thanks. I'm setting up an office in my den and I'm thinking about buying a computer.

ABBOTT: Mac?

COSTELLO: No, the name's Lou.

ABBOTT: Your computer?

COSTELLO: I don't own a computer. I want to buy one.

ABBOTT: Mac?

COSTELLO: I told you, my name's Lou.

ABBOTT: What about Windows?

COSTELLO: Why? Will it get stuffy in here?

ABBOTT: Do you want a computer with Windows?

COSTELLO: I don't know. What will I see when I look at the windows?

ABBOTT: Wallpaper.

COSTELLO: Never mind the windows. I need a computer and software.

ABBOTT: Software for Windows?

COSTELLO: No. On the computer! I need something I can use to write proposals, track expenses and run my business. What do you have?

ABBOTT: Office.

COSTELLO: Yeah, for my office. Can you recommend anything?

ABBOTT: I just did.

COSTELLO: You just did what?

ABBOTT: Recommend something.

COSTELLO: You recommended something?

ABBOTT: Yes.

COSTELLO: For my office?

ABBOTT: Yes.

COSTELLO: OK, what did you recommend for my office?

ABBOTT: Office.

COSTELLO: Yes, for my office!

ABBOTT: I recommend Office with Windows.

COSTELLO: I already have an office with windows! OK, let's just say I'm sitting at my computer and I want to type a proposal. What do
I need?

ABBOTT: Word.

COSTELLO: What word?

ABBOTT: Word in Office.

COSTELLO: The only word in office is office.

ABBOTT: The Word in Office for Windows.

COSTELLO: Which word in office for windows?

ABBOTT: The Word you get when you click the blue "W".

COSTELLO: I'm going to click your blue "w" if you
don't start with some straight answers. OK, forget that. Can I watch movies on the Internet?

ABBOTT: Yes, you want Real One.

COSTELLO: Maybe a real one, maybe a cartoon. What I watch is none of your business. Just tell me what I need!

ABBOTT: Real One.

COSTELLO: If it's a long movie, I also want to watch reels 2, 3 and 4. Can I watch them?

ABBOTT: Of course.

COSTELLO: Great! With what?

ABBOTT: Real One.

COSTELLO: OK, I'm at my computer and I want to watch a movie. What do I do?

ABBOTT: You click the blue "1".

COSTELLO: I click the blue one what?

ABBOTT: The blue "1".

COSTELLO: Is that different from the blue w?

ABBOTT: The blue "1" is Real One and the blue "W" is Word.

COSTELLO: What word?

ABBOTT: The Word in Office for Windows.

COSTELLO: But there are three words in "office for windows"!

ABBOTT: No, just one. But it's the most popular Word in the world.

COSTELLO: It is?

ABBOTT: Yes, but to be fair, there aren't many other Words left. It pretty much wiped out all the other Words out there.

COSTELLO: And that word is real one?

ABBOTT: Real One has nothing to do with Word. Real One isn't even part of Office.

COSTELLO: STOP! Don't start that again. What about financial bookkeeping? You have anything I can track my money with?

ABBOTT: Money.

COSTELLO: That's right. What do you have?

ABBOTT: Money.

COSTELLO: I need money to track my money?

ABBOTT: It comes bundled with your computer.

COSTELLO: What's bundled with my computer?

ABBOTT: Money.

COSTELLO: Money comes with my computer?

ABBOTT: Yes. No extra charge.

COSTELLO: I get a bundle of money with my computer? How much?

ABBOTT: One copy.

COSTELLO: Isn't it illegal to copy money?

ABBOTT: Microsoft gave us a license to copy Money.

COSTELLO: They can give you a license to copy money?

ABBOTT: Why not? THEY OWN IT!

(A few weeks later...)

ABBOTT: Super Duper computer store. Can I help you?

COSTELLO: How do I turn my computer off?

ABBOTT: Click on "START".

I am sure you can just choose what you would like to plan. On the Christmas Cruise some of the items that required co-ordinating were:
Buttons (which were VERY helpful). I think Mark has volunteered for this.
Mini Naviagators for DIS events - Mary did this last time
Coordination of Early or Lat Seating
Coordination of Brunch together
Specially labeled bottles of wine
Shirts (very helpful to recognize people at the port and at the sail away party)
Mini meet an hour or so before the Sail Away party.
Group Picture
Wine Tasting Party (this became very complicated last time, so I am not sure this will occur again)

If you have any other ideas, this group is always open for new ideas.

Good job!
It's interesting to see all that written down!

We were busy!!

I'll step up to the plate and volunteer to coordinate the speciality labeld wine bottles. :cool1:

Just got the latest Oriental Trading Catalog - there's plenty of glow sticks necklaces and other novelties if anyone's interested they usually need to be ordered in multiples of dozen, sun/beach type novelties too- I could also grab bubbles from the dollar store for sailaway. Oriental Trading also has pirate stuff, too....

www.orientaltrading.com

As room mom, I should be planning the end of the year party but, I'd rather look for cruise stuff!!!

I, on the other hand, and am stepping away from the plate, and bowing gracefully out of volunteering to handle a wine party location.

My new motto: JUST SAY NO ! ;)

Ha! And what an oxymoron, to have my name connected with anything "graceful" !!
