There has been too much bad/sad news about parents on this thread! Sharon, Stacey, Maria, & Virgil (any whoever else I missed), lot of prayers & pixie dust are coming your way.

Prayers and Pixie Dust for my Dad.

He went to the Doctor last week and they have told him that his cancer is back and it is very aggressive this time. They have told him six months maximum. (However, we have had these dire predictions before only to have him go into remission. This has happened enough times that you know one of theses times it can't happen again).

I am SO GLAD we all got to spend a week with him in Alaska recently. I think he had a great time. Being so far away, it is always hard to know what I should do to help. My sister and younger brother certainly take up most of the care (to Dr appointments, etc). So, what our plans are going to be for the various holidays gets much more complicated.

So sorry to hear about your Dad, and of course prayers and pixie dust coming your way, and your family.

It is wonderful you had the Alaska trip....and we can pray the predictions are not correct.

What is up with us anyway? Are we just at "that age" when our parents are, to be blunt, showing their age? Are we just a cross-section of American, where bad things happen to good people?

It does seem we are having more than our share, doesn't it.

Still, there are celebrations with Birthdays, Kids games, driving licenses, trips.......

At the airport once again...at least this time the plane is here ontime. So unless there is a surprise, I should be in Nebraska in 3 hours. I hope it's cooler.
Dad's surgery is early tomorrow and it will be good to have that over with, but they called today & think the cancer may be in his lungs. He may have quite the road ahead. All prayers welcome.
Will check in when I can. TTFN

Sharon,
Sorry to hear about your dad. Prayers and pixiedust: to you and the family.

Absolutely. He's on my list... along with the rest of your family. Thankfully he was well enough to enjoy the Alaska trip.

I haven't been on in 3 days, and only about 3 pages to catch up on... wow.

So... in the past 3 days... what's happened with me...

Hmm.... Friday... Ray accepted a new job.
He' be working as the VP of Motorsports for a company that provides misting fans and heaters to pro & college sports teams. Should be exciting. He'll be working from home, starting 9/1. He might be staying on part-time in his present job if all works out well.

Let's see... Saturday... Scrubbed the kitchen non-stop, in an effort to get rid of the ghost-ants that the exterminator couldn't seem to make go away. Ahh... Florida in the summertime... gotta love it.

Saturday night, had dinner at new Japanese Steakhouse (at least I think it's new... Jim- is Tepanaki new??). With the exception of Christopher, we all loved it... he didn't... but that's nothing new - he especially hated that they kept putting everything on one plate. (He wanted a new one every time.)

Sunday... cleaned out Christopher's drawers and closet... that kid has more shirts than he could EVER wear... why oh why do I keep buying them??? Finished up the last of the school shopping, and watched the first football game of the year!!!! Woo hoo!!!!

This morning reminded my what I hate so much about the first day of school... TRAFFIC!!!!!!!!! Because Christopher doesn't go to the school he's zoned for, we have to drive him... it took me over an hour to drop him at school and get to work. ARRRGGGGGHHHH!!!

I was in such an awful mood when I walked in my office, only to find out that one of our employees was severely injured in a motorcycle accident this weekend (yes, de ja vu for those of you who were around last year at this time...)... talk about making me forget about the traffic... He is going to pull through, but will face 6 months to a year out of work. Stupid fool wasn't wearing a helmet, and was goofing around on his own street... not going fast, but still... that's all it takes.

Now its off to a parents meeting for cheerleading... I'd rather be poked in the eye with a sharp stick.

He's got a wife and a few kid (2, I think)... the good thing is that last year, after Matt's fatal accident, Joey took it to heart and signed up for Aflac... good thing... he's going to need it. Supposedly, he is doing well... he'll be home in a few days but will need 24/7 supervision. I guess he's got some frontal lobe damage... no broken bones to heal though... just road rash.

Kiki, so sorry to hear about your co-worker.

Reminds me, I watched the end of Extreme Home Makeover last night, I think it was a re-run. It was a guy with three tiny girls, he had lost his wife. They gave him a HARLEY. How dumb is that?

PD and prayers to your father and your family. I know how hard it is when it's cancer, which runs in our family.

I do remember that episode - I thought it was odd. A minivan would have been a more practical choice. But, I do remember them saying he had to give up his riding to take care of the girls - Hopefully, he can also find the time to take care of himself...
