Almost fifteen years have past since our honeymoon at WDW, and I thought it might be fun (at least for me) to write a trip report with my now faded but fond memories. Today's update will be the planning and build up to the trip.
From as early as I can recall, I always wanted to go to WDW. Unfortunately, my parents were not interested in theme parks or fairy tales. My wife had been to DL once, but it wasn't an ideal experience. Her family imploded shortly afterwards. I always think about us back then as a princess without a castle and a prince without a fairy tale.
Fast forward to 1996. Freshly out of college - full of dreams but short on cash. Our wedding was a self-funded, lower budget affair. Money was so tight that our honeymoon was going to be a long weekend in Vermont. I can still recall wishing that we could afford more.
It had to be February of 1996, three months before our wedding, when a bit of fairy dust fell on us. I was working for a small bank at the time, and the annual bonuses for analysts were $200 and a handshake from the CFO. Anyway, that day I got called into my bosses office to meet with her and the CFO to get my bonus. Could have knocked me over with a feather, but that CFO handed me a check for $5,000. It was known around the bank as the "super secret bonus", and was a legend that nobody had ever directly confirmed or denied. I can still rerember calling my wife (to-be) with the news and arranging to meet at a travel agency during lunch to purchase a trip to WDW. She was so happy that she was crying at the travel agency.
Next update - The wedding and journey to Orlando.
