4th FP+ Question

I will say I was there Thanksgiving week and neither Hollywood Studios nor Epcot would allow me to book a tier 1 4th FP and I didn't have 'anytime FP+' in my account.
I tried the old way of cancelling the tier 2 or letting them expire or just using them but whenever I chose to book an additional FP from the app it would not allow another tier 1.
I almost logged into DIS to see if anyone had advice but I let it go. We were having such a good time it didn't matter in the end and just waited in line for RNR
Interesting. Not sure I'll get the chance this weekend but know I'll be at Epcot next Sat and will try to test it out then.

We were at HS the week before Thanksgiving. We had 3 FP+ (Toy Story, Indy, and ToT). We used all 3 and I decided to check to see if we could get a 4th on MDE app. We were able to snag a 4th for Toy Story about 2 hours later. :confused3

I was there a couple of weeks ago and after the first 3 we got to ride Toy Story 2 times and RnR coaster 2 times with FP.
To be honest I was almost all the time checking my phone and suddenly they came up.
I was actualy very suprised that even being in the fast pass queue for Toy Story, I was able to find another one for 10 min later.

So has anyone been able to cancel the Tier 2 FP+ or let them expire and then snag another Tier 1? Sounds like the people obtaining a 2nd Tier 1 are actually using the Tier 2 FP+ at DHS or EP?
We tried to snag a 2nd Tier 1 by cancelling our Tier 2 or letting them expire and were unable.

Canceling no longer works because the FP system always allows a total of 3, even after Canceling some, and all 3 have to be used or at least tapped at the FP touch point before another Tier 1 is booked.

Thank You! So that sweet little loop hole has been closed. Good to know for Epcot. We can always use our Tier 2 at DHS but Epcot is very hard.

Book 2 Tier 2s that are easy to Modify. Tap the touch point for #1, move up #2 and then stop by the FP touchpoint and tap. Then book your 2nd Tier 1 as soon as you can.

No; tap the 1st FP touch point and walk away. You don't have to actually ride.

See Marcie's tips in the FP FAQ Addendum Sticky for tips.

According to @marciemi FP FAQ you can let them expire.

But what if you don’t want to deal with riding or tapping at Tier 2’s at all? The other alternative is to simply schedule your two Tier 2’s before your Tier 1 and let them expire before you get to the Tier 1. This would allow you to book another Tier 1 as soon as you tapped at the first. This option is particularly useful for the Frozen Ever After FP+’s (which begin at 11am). So you could schedule two at 9am and 10am and be eligible for another Tier 1 as soon as you scanned at FEA. During this time, you could sleep in, ride some of the Tier 1’s with shorter lines then (whether TT or Soarin’), or even begin your morning at another park with EMH before hopping to Epcot.

Just trying to determine if this is still true or if its changed (or if I'm misunderstanding something).

It depends on your timing of your Tier 1. If your FP#1 is the Tier 1, use it and then tap out the Tier 2s by moving them up and tapping out. Then book you next Tier 1.

There's no reason to wait a couple of hours to let 2 Tier 2s expire if you can tap them out quickly.

Correct - if you're not getting to the park until 11, then it makes more sense to let the first two expire beforehand. But if you'll be at RD and have your tier 1 at 9 and the other 2 afterwards, moving and/or tapping can be a lot quicker than waiting for the whole window. I haven't tested it lately but haven't seen anyone report that the expiring option doesn't work any more so you should be good.

In early December, we booked 3 FP+ at Hollywood Studios.

After using all three, none expired, we booked Toy Story for our 4th. I was shocked it was available. But they system allowed us to book it and use it.

We did the same thing at Epcot and booking Test Track for a second time, as our 4th FP+

Awesome. Thanks. I wouldn't really do it on purpose but at DHS we always seem to be running to catch a show and the kids change their mind. I don't want to have to double back to tap an MB if it doesn't make sense.

When we were there, you only tapped once. They have shut down all of the second check points.

That was true for us too. By double back I meant going back to an attraction just to tap it. The situation we ran into in May was DD was supposed to go on ToT with DH and DD6 but decided she wanted to go to Dis Jr with DS and I at the last minute. Since we went separate ways, she was nowhere near the tapstile for ToT. This was when they first rolled out the ability to make changes on your phone. I couldn't get her another Tier 1 because of that FP. They didn't expire at that time (or I was doing something wrong but I know others had that issue in the beginning). People seemed to be saying different things in this forum about how it worked so I just want to be sure I understand how the system works if/when we get into a situation like that again.

So letting them expire does still work? Because it didn't for us in November.

Read my separate thread on it - it does but only if you then try to add a new FPP, not change one of your existing ones. And apparently some folks have said it doesn't work if your Tier 2's are after the Tier 1 - I haven't tested that but hope to soon.

Okay, thanks! We tried all sorts of ways at Thanksgiving. Letting them expire, cancelling them. And it was always to add a new Tier 1, never changing it. Oh well. It didn't quite matter. We lined up in queue for the other tier 1 at Epcot that we wanted and it was fine. It was tough at DHS though, that RNR line gets long.

That might explain our experience in May. Yes, I was adding a new FP not modifying (it let me for everyone who had tapped all of them but excluded my DD and I who missed one). Our Tier order was 2-1-2 and it was the first Tier 2 that was missed. We all hit the Tier 1 and second 2.
