$45 more for a preferred room at CBR?

I am looking to rebook a room only reservation and I checked Undercover Tourist. They have $165 for my dates for a standard and $210 for a preferred. We are staying 7 days. I normally don't get preferred but this time I did because 1. The size of the resort and 2. I know there will be a lot of sports kids down there (one of them will be mine and her team) and I know they always book standard rates. This is just a small guarantee of avoiding them :)

But $45 more a night for 7 days? I was already looking to pay $221 on the Disney site so $210 is still a great deal for preferred. But $165 is a great deal and I hate to pass that up and just ask for a certain area semi-close. I think anything but South Trinidad is doable.

Thoughts?

I would only stay at CBR again with a preferred room. It is just so large. That extra will put you that much closer to the feature pool and food court. Well worth it, imho.

In this families opinion paying extra $$ for preferred at CBR is not worth it. 85% of the Non Preferred rooms (except the Pirate Themed Rooms in Trinidad South) are a 3-6 minute walk to OPR and the Main Feature Pool. The other 15% are 6-8 minutes. Every Village has its own bus stop and leisure pool so you will always be close to those no matter where you are.

We have stayed in every Village except Trinidad South and never felt we were far from anything.

I am staying there in March and my cost to upgrade to preferred was $35 per night and I thought that was to much and did not do it:)

Request Aruba 51 or Jamaica 45. Very close to the bridge to OPR. We stayed in Jamaica twice (not 45 though) and were very close.

I actually paid extra for Trinidad south. My 2 boys got a kick out of the pirate rooms.

I guess it depends how often you go back and forth from room to pool/foodcourt. We mostly used the quiet pool which was a few steps from our door but the .5 mile walk to the main hub was pleasant enough. I liked being away from the noise and crowds. Trinidad south is very peaceful.

What @dansdad said!!!! And I agree with @mi*vida*loca - Aruba and Jamaica are so close and there is such a beautiful view walking too and from - you just need to wear dark sunglasses when around Jamaica, yes @dansdad ?

It must depend on where in Jamaica. We stayed in Jamaica 44 and I hated the walk up front. And I am on my feet walking all day at work. So it is about the last thing I want to do at the resort--hike for no good reason.

Is every room in South Trinidad a pirate room? By not booking one, I will automatically not be put there, correct?

I think we stayed in Jamaica 44 once. I'm not positive but we never minded the walk to OPR. It was maybe 3 minutes. We were really close to a bus stop too. We also only go to OPR at our midday break or at the end of the day for pool time. We don't eat breakfast at our resort in the morning so that cuts out the walk in the morning.

My walk to the pool and marketplace was probably further at BC with those looooong hallways.

When we were there last, we stayed in Aruba 52 and I don't think it was more than a 5 minute stroll - the beautiful flowers and scenery were quite nice to see on the walk to and from. I don't think we were more than 1/2 mile at most.

If it was only 3 minutes it wasn't Jamaica 44. Not unless you ran the whole way. :upsidedow

Oh, yeah I remember those long walks at the Beach Club too. Again, not one of my favorites.

You never know where you will end up. We have payed for the preferred room at Pop Century and ended up just a few doors away from what is not a preferred room. This summer we had a water view room at Caribbean Beach and had the best room in the whole resort! We were in the Martinique, closest room to pool and food and a great water view!

Yes and yes.

Typically. But we all know that no room type is guaranteed. It wouldn't be the first time CBR "upgraded" people to a Pirate Room at check in. Odds are not good it will happen, but stuff like that does happen. The OP could pay for standard and be put in preferred too. But no way should any of us say something will "absolutely" happen or not happen. Disney is not that predictable.

I'm another one who wouldn't pay for a preferred room. It's not really that big of a resort. We were in a room in Jamaica (can't remember the building #) but it was an easy walk to the pool and the food court. My son has permanent nerve damage in his spine and he had no problems.

It's more than 200 acres....the largest resort on Disney property. It's big.

I don't get the angst about CBR size and buses. We ask for 1st floor and King Bed. We must be lucky because in almost 70+ days of staying at CBR, have only had one bad bus day...Christmas Day 2003...and the size is what makes it great. And 3-6 minutes of walking is not all that bad.

WE have stayed in Jamaica 44 and never found the walk difficult. Jamaica 45 is closer, though.

Perhaps we just like the pretty walk... but it felt convenient to us. Everyone has a different definition of what makes them happy, however, so I would recommend paying the extra for preferred if being super close is important to you.

Many people seem to find the more distant rooms to be a long walk at CBR. The question is: Which do you want more? To save $45 a day or to save a five minute walk (or so) each time you go to OPR.
