Hello!
Travelling to the Fort 8/3/2014 for our Anniversary! Have been reading posts on this Forum for a while now. Travelling from Pittsburgh,PA area. My wife has mobility problems only allowing her to walk for short times. Can we rent a electric scooter at the parks or at the Fort? I know golf carts are available.
Thanks in advance for assistance. First of many posts/questions!:cool1:

You can rent an electric scooter in the parks but it is first come first serve, you can't reserve it ahead of time and they do sometimes run out. They are also very expensive and have to stay at the park so she will not be able to use it to get back to your cabin/camper.

The other option is to go online with a company that delivers scooters. We have done this 3 times. It is much cheaper per day than renting in the parks and you get the use of the scooter to get around the campground, however, you also have to get the scooter off and on the buses when going to the parks and that is a HUGE HUGE PAIN. Especially for someone not used to driving one.

Check out the disabilities board for more info, especially for which online scooter company to use.

For someone limited mobility, what is your plan outside the parks like downtown Disney, or any plans for dinner around the Disney campus? After a long time contemplating it for a friend suffering from COPD we ended up renting a scooter from an outside company for the stay. This meant she always had a scooter when she needed it, not just as the parks.

Can we rent a electric scooter at the parks or at the Fort?
. . . yes, at the parks, but First-Come-First-Served (and they can run-out)
. . . no, not available for rent at The Fort

I know golf carts are available
. . . yes, but expensive

OUR RECOMMENDATIONS:
. . . for the mobility person, rent a scooter from off-site
. . . the scooter company will deliver to The Fort
. . . you, then, have use at the parks and at the resort and even DTD
. . . for all others, rent a cart from off-site vendors
. . . they also will aid in delivery to you at The Fort
. . . same cart, but a lot cheaper than Disney's $65/day

Be sure and tell the cast member you are celebrating you anniversary.
Do this when checking in either online or in person. The button and the notation on your reservations are worth it.
