My dw is convinced she read a thread on here about disney selling strollers for $40. Does anyone know anything about these?

I saw them at Once Upon a Toy at DTD...not sure if they are anywhere else.

I saw one today in the WoD store in Manhattan. Collapsible "umbrella" style. Looked reasonably sturdy, though I didn't examine it too closely.

It is a Kolcraft Tour Sport reclining umbrella stroller for $40.- http://kolcraft.com/product.aspx?id=99&&shopby=category

We bought ours last year at Once Upon a Toy at DTD. The umbrella tends to pop off until it gets 'broken in' but other than that it was $40 well spent. They might also sell them in the parks but I'm not sure about that.

They do sell them all over the parks -- gift shops, hotels, DTD etc. The canopy is really, really small and I don't think it would be sufficient in December. I guess it would be ok in a pinch, but with a little planning you could find a better stroller, WITH a decent canopy for the same $$ or less.

I saw them at the little gift shop in Epcot right where you come in if you take the boat from MGM so I'm sure they must be available at other shops in the parks as well. They looked kind of overpriced to me. I'd go to WalMart instead.

They are better than the average cheapie $20 umbrella stroller you can get because they recline!! It also has a storage bag and cup holder. I have had a similar Kolkraft stroller in the past and it lasted a long time and I had no complaints with it. We saw them in most stores at WDW when we were there last month. They don't have anything "Disney" on them, they are just black and red.

I also bought ours in Once Upon A Toy. Really the best Disney stroller we've ever used (and we've used a lot!). It can recline, has a reasonably sized net bag to hold stuff, has a cup holder, and an umbrella. You can't be it for $40! I love the way it folds and how lightweight it is too.

We've brought strollers that were big "touring strollers" to rentals to this and it is a very nice stroller. You can probably buy it cheaper beforehand but it is a nice Disney stroller.

Up to what weight can these hold? DD has not used a stroller in a long while (she just turned 5 in April) and I really don't want to rent daily unless we absolutely need to as we're going to be there for a week and that would really add up. Buying this when we got down there would be a lot cheaper.....but she weighs in at 48 pounds, so most umbrella strollers will no longer hold her. Anyone know what weight these will hold up to? Thanks!

In September 06, when we had dinner at Ohana at the Polynesian, we stopped into the gift shop, and I saw the strollers there too.

My son is about to turn 5 and weighs 40 pounds. We have not used it since our last trip but I can tell you he hasn't gained 5 pounds in just a few months. We never had a problem. I'm not sure what a difference another 5pounds would make.

I looked through all the big strollers and even they have a weight limit of only 40. I know my daughter rode in her strollers way past 40 pounds. I bet you would be fine. When you get there, unfold one and let her sit in it. See if she looks ridiculous in it or if you have trouble pushing it. Like I said, my son is 40 lbs and we push it with ease.

Well I think that you would be OK weight wise fo rthe stroller. Also they sell them at the gift shops in all the hotels too

Thanks for the weight info.....we will try it out and see. Would definitely be much cheaper than renting if we need it.:)

price for 2006 model with hood and weight limit of 55 lbs.

cost is about $99

Use it for 1 trip or even 2 trips... sell on ebay or craigslist for about $60 (check ebay listings, a good condition volo sells for that much)

cost to use stroller: about $40 but you get a great stroller

Or

Buy the Kolcraft one for $40 plus tax, has weight limit of 35 lbs (useless) and use it for 1 trip or 2 trips at most

cost to use stroller: $40 because no one will buy that one resale.

The Maclaren strollers are excellent and really easy to sell when you are done using it. And you can't beat the weight limit.

In fact, my dd8 was sitting in our volo this past January for portions of the trip, and she weighs 80 lbs. And it pushed as if my little guy was in it.

So between the 2, I'd pick the volo. The cost is the same basically in the end and you have a much better stroller.

Unless you don't want to go through the hassle of selling it for just a trip or two. Plus, you wouldn't have to bring it down with you if you bought it down there and for $40 you could pass it along to another DIS'er if you didn't want to bring it home.
