4 y/o and 6 y/o walking in WDW

I know that eventually my two daughters (age 4 and 6) will get tired of walking in the them parks when we visit. However, I think they are slightly a little told old for a stroller plus my oldest would probably be waaaay out of the weight limit for most. So what do most of you do when you visit and kids start getting cranky about walking?

My kids(boys) were 4 & 7 last trip. We rented the strollers at WDW. It is easier to keep track of everyone if they are contained in a stroller. Plus there was no complaints about tired feet. When they wanted to walk they walked, then we had a place to store the backpack or purchases. You can definately make better time pushing them around instead of dragging them through the park.

I don't know my 5 yr old walked the whole time and to be honest when he started to get tired we all were getting tired so we all kinda sympathized with each other and kept going (usually on the way to the car!)

We rented a double stroller when we went last year. DS7 &DS5 (barely) used stroller when they were tired of walking, hungry, hot, etc. Actually, DS7 ended up riding the most

It was so nice not to have the kids complain about walking ... it was a great decision for us!

I would get stroller. We just got back from N.O. and DS4 could not hang with all the walking we did. He does just fine with a day at the mall. But 3 days of walking in the french quarter did him in and he was heavy and if you tried to make him walk he would FREAK out. He never does crap like that so he must have been really tired.

Does anyone know the weight requirements on the WDW strollers?

We had 90 lb. 10 year old DS and 60 lb. 7 year old DS in a double stroller at MK for a short while, and it was just fine, so I'm sure your 2 girls would be no problem at all!

We still take a Graco single stroller for my almost 8 year old DS, and he uses it at times. We also love having the stroller basket to carry some of our stuff. I think we kicked older DS out when he turned 8 (except for the short time at MK when we had the free stroller for MNSSHP). I just don't know if we'll completely be done with it next month when DS turns 8 because we still depend on it! And younger DS is smaller and lighter than older DS, so I could see hanging on to it for just a bit longer...

I agree with the majority of posters. I think it would be wise to rent a double stroller. We did with my DD2 and my DS8. Just like one of the other posters, my DS8 used it more than my DD.
It really helped them keep up and we did not have to hear them whine. I would definitely check it out when you are there.

They are too old for a stroller everywhere BUT Disneyworld!

Prevent a lot of whining...........rent a stroller!

Besides, it's great to hang your shopping bags from and pile your other stuff on the stroller!!!

Another point........when your kids want to snack but you want to keep moving, they can sit and eat in the stroller. Ever see a kid eat and walk at the same time?.......they walk into things!

My DD who is now 5 only uses a stroller when we go to Disney because she gets really tired of all the walking and she is way too big for us to carry. Plus as everyone else mentioned it is a great place to store things.

Definately get the stroller. I have a 4 and 5 year old and we always get the stroller. One time I didn't and I was ready to steal someone's just to end the whining..LOL. Just kidding... but I did think of offering someone money for theirs. They hold a lot more weight than they say. I sat in it to eat an ice cream and I weigh a whole lot. LOL. Definately get it.. We just went in the fall and our girls were 4 and 6... We brought our single Maclaren stroller from home for the 4 yr old, but ended up renting stroller for my 6 yr old DD mid-day on most days in the park... it's a lot of walking for their little legs!!! I'd rather push them in the stroller than have crabby kids ruining the day!

Rent the stroller. Disney is tons of walking. If adult legs are tired out by all that walking, it must be worse for the little legs. They have to take a couple of steps to equal one adult step. Plus, it helps you to keep track of your children. No worries that you might loose track of them when you are pushing them. Also the strollers are a great place to keep all of your stuff.

Thumbs up on the stroller rental. We had 2 5yr olds using it, never a complaint about being tired. It gave us a place to store everything, so we weren't carrying the backpack around. And at night, our 8yr old hopped in with them! Everyone was happy.

My oldest has walked on both of our trips since we had him. He was just shy of 4 the first time, and not quite 5 the second time. The only time he wanted to use a stroller was the first trip, it was after Fantasmic and younger ds was asleep with DH carrying him anyway.

I'm going to budget for a rental stroller for younger ds (just barely 4) this time around, but I really don't anticipate needing one more than once or twice. If he needs one, definitely rent it.

only at Disneworld would my step kids ride in a stroller...anywhere else they would be highly insulted at the mere suggestions that they use one!! But at DW the heat is pretty exhausting for little ones, and a stroller is traveling shade. It keeps a cap on a lot of the whiney cranky fussing that makes everyone nuts!!

Don't let those people who say "MY child walks 8 miles in the snow uphill while at Disneyworld and we wouldn't EVER get her a stroller..."

Do what is best for your kids.

We rented a double stroller for my five year old son and niece when we were there in december. We hadn't planned on it, but there was a lot of walking from the hotel room to the bus, bus to park entrance, and it worked out well to have a stroller in the parks. We didn't figure out til the second to last day that you get a discount if you buy more than one day stroller pass ahead of time. Plus hang on to the ticket and you can get a stroller from any park if you are park hopping and you only have to pay once a day. My son weighs 56 pounds, and my niece probably 45, and the strollers were fine. I actually sat in it while waiting for a parade, and it seemed pretty sturdy. I wished we had brought a stroller to use to and from the resort, as I had to carry that 56 pounds around many late evenings. I figure the extra exercise made up for the mickey bars I ate.

I will go with the majority and say rent a double stroller - at Epcot especially. Remember, you don't have to rent one first thing in the morning so you can always change your mind as the day goes on. My kids ditched the stroller at 2 at home but not until 7 at DisneyWorld.
