4 WDW Resorts to allow dogs

I don't know. I am pretty sure Universal has allowed dogs for years- and they continue to do so, so they must find it worth it.

As far as only allowing them at only one resort, that would not offer the same level of choice of accommodations for guests with dogs. Disney is built around a three-tiered resort system with value, moderate, and deluxe. It makes perfect sense to offer pet friendly accommodations at one of each (plus Fort Wilderness, since it is so rustic and is already a pet friendly resort for those with tents and campers).

I agree it makes logical sense, but in a practical sense, it won’t work. They’ve gotten an earful today already. I give it til the new year before they abandon this “trial”.

Disney to offer a resort where you can bring your dogs. However, it should be only 1. I’ve seen the argument that you’ll barely see them because so few people will use the service. Well, then it makes sense to put them all together. Everybody wins! Also, people on various forums/Facebook keep saying “all these other hotels allow dogs”. I don’t generally go for 5-14 day vacations and stay at one hotel the whole time except at Disney. There’s a difference when an animal stays for 1 night vs. 5. And having animals in the same rooms every night. Wow. No amount of cleaning will get rid of the smell in that “wing” of the resort.

Looks like they picked one resort at each "level" (plus the cabins) so I wonder if they are seeing which price point of vacationers goes for this more and then will adjust from there

I’ve never stayed at any of the universal hotels, so correct me if this is wrong, but I imagine they are more hotels than sprawling resorts.

My biggest complaint is the lack of notice. I love dogs, created and ran my own rescue, and treat mine like royalty. But I don't understand the obsession with taking them everywhere and never have. I don't want to eat at a restaurant with dogs, have to step over them at a crowded festival, look for poop piles in the grass lawn of my hotel, or hear them bark.

Crying baby, unpleasant but acceptable. Barking dog, not on my vacation. I hope no one takes advantage at AOA during my stay next month, and I'll be booking Pop or POFQ next year. I just don't want to vacation with dogs (or in a room recently vacated by dogs, because there's no way they get all the hair up).

Universal Pet Agreement states you can NOT leave the pet unattended at any time. If you want to be off, there is a pet sitting service or a kennel with day care. Disney appears to be ready to let you leave your pet for 7 hours ............. never heard of a hotel letting you leave your pet that long.

That's how I feel. There is a full-blown melt down on the Disney Parks Blog post on Facebook about this (overwhelmingly negative). There are 25 resorts on property. No need for a meltdown -just pick one of the other 21 resorts. Geez people.

There isn't ROOM to just switch. There just isn't.

My mom and dad brought their dog to WDW on the last few trips and always boarded her at Best Friends. They preferred to bring her (drive) and board her there as she started getting older (rather than boarding her at home.) Their dog LOVED Best Friends. My mom would often take a midday break to visit her. It was like she was at summer camp!

My mom wouldn’t have wanted her cooped up in a room all day. At Best Friends she had activities, her own comfy rest space with outside access and time to run.

I LOVE my dog but would not have her stay in a Disney hotel with me. Too many smells, noises and not enough space to run. She’d be cooped up too much.

That is true and a good point, I think they will have to change it, but that being said there are some dogs that would be okay with this I can leave my dogs alone for up to 12 hours if needed but I wouldn't choose to do that especially not in a hotel room.

To @lockedoutlogic's constant refrain, if a bunch of people cancelled, and just packed up for somewhere else, if they couldn't be accommodated onsite, it might get WDW's attention, or if people wanted to transfer TO those hotels in order to bring their dogs, there could be parody. Who knows how it'll go. 2 days notice is awfully late when WDW tries to get people to plan so far out, although I have no idea why people do.

So estimates are as high as 15% of people being allergic to dogs. In a family of 4, roughly a 48% chance someone is allergic to dogs. I am going to say this is going to put OFF a lot more families than its going to attract.

For 50-75 per night extra Disney better damn well deep clean the rooms, even better if the dog rooms are set aside.

I am pretty sure lockedoutlogic can speak to this better than I can, but, as I just noted, the chances of having someone in your party with pet allergies is quite high, they simply would not be able to accommodate people who want to be moved unless they contain the pets to a very specific location ... which it appears they will not.

Yes I can leave my dogs that long, in my home, even in a crate ........... but a hotel is not home, noisy, strange voices and sounds, maybe young kids yelling and laughing (we are all adult house). Even at home and our second home when we go out, then return they get excited and bark until we are inside. I wouldn't want to do that to other guests, my experience doesn't trump theirs.

I have two dogs. I am not allergic to them. I have been around other dogs that cause my allergies to go nuts. My DS friend grew up with dog, never allergic. Brother/roommate got a dog ...... now highly allergic. You just don't know what animal dander will set you off, even if you don't normally have an issue. It gets in everywhere. My DD hasn't lived here in almost 4 years and will still find hairs of our dogs in her stuff. It's a very tough thing to eliminate for those who are allergic. If they allow dogs in any room, then place non-dog guests in those rooms I think we'll hear lots of complaints.

Yeah I agree but that's why I said some dogs can do it in a hotel if they are used to it.

I don't think most dogs can, so I think this rule will change.

Where did you read they will not keep them contained? POR, AoA, and The Cabins are all large, spread out resorts where it would be easy to keep them separate from other areas. They could keep them in Building 80 in Magnolia Bend at POR. Keep them to only the Cars section in AoA. Keep them in a specific loop or two at the Cabins. The YC would probably be the trickiest one to section off, but many hotels limit animals to a certain floor in the hotel. People with pet allergies don't stay in those rooms. I'm sure Disney has considered pet allergies and has made arrangements to deal with those issues.

The map of POR pee stops alone says the dogs will be spread out in the resort. If they were going to contain them I think we would see one pee spot by one set of buildings.

Will try but their will not be designated buildings for dogs and others not for dogs. POR is a very large resort so having more than one dog green area makes sense.
