SUNDAY 27th May 2001
SMOKE, USF, PIRATES & LOST SOCK!
Cast list: -
Me (Shaun) - Wallet opener, chauffeur and bag carrier
DW (Alison) - Chief planner, navigator and mother
DD # 1 (Alexandra 7) - Cautious, shy and parking lot number guru
DD # 2 (Laura 5) - Daredevil, chatterbox and sleeper
Up and at em at about 7:45 and had breakfast in room - Why do I think that I'm the only one getting used to this idea?
We stepped outside our room and PHEW!, what a stink from the smoke! - it is also really foggy as well so we have to put the lights on the car. I4 is awful, I can't see any more than about 1 cars length in front of me - very scary!!! There seemed to have been quite a few 'bumps' as there were several cars off the road.
Can you believe it took 90 mins to get to USF!!
(We later heard on the news that the Disney water parks opened an hour later than normal - very unusual step for Disney - I believe it was because a lot of their staff were stuck with us on I4!)
This time we opt for the $10 Preferred Parking - hey, what the heck, we're on holiday! - why oh why didn't we do this earlier in the holiday - it's close and under cover! And for only an extra $3 - why not?
We get to the entrance to USF and it appears to be fairly quiet today, at least for the moment (probably due to the smoke/fog). We were expecting it to be very busy as it's Memorial weekend, so we decided to make the most of it for now!
We rush over to MIB (getting EP's for T2-3D & Barney en route). We just LOVE this ride - the best in USF! The 90 min lockers are a good idea to save you carrying bags etc on. However, the single rider queue was non-existent and quicker than the early EP queue! (This seemed to be the case quite often at both Universal parks - if you don't mind riding separately it's an excellent idea!)
(DW 240,000 me 247,000 ..na na na na na na)
Off to ride Kongfrontation. Never done this ride before as it seemed to be permanently broken last time. - We had a good "driver" who made the ride enjoyable but it's not a "must see" ride. The girls didn't want to do this ride, but I think they would have been OK as it's not too overwhelming! We certainly didn't feel in any danger!
(From DW's diary: Funny Monkey) - Where did that come from????
Next, off to do Barney - Yawn, yawn ,yawn - pre-schoolers will LOVE it but it's about exciting as watching paint dry!
DW rode T2-3D while we waited near Curious George and the Woody rollercoaster. DDs loved this area of the park.
We grabbed a bit of lunch in Schwabs Pharmacy. We had cheese ,ham and turkey sandwiches and chips (crisps on this side of the pond!). I loved this but I'm not sure about the others. The kindly old lady serving behind the counter looked after the DDs, giving them extra chips etc and chatting to them at the counter!
The food was good and fresh but $6 for a turkey sandwich???? Never mind, at least we didn't eat burgers!!!
I went off to do T2-3D and DW and DD's went to do Nickelodeon - I know who got the short straw on this.
I really enjoyed T2-3D, much, much better than I remembered! - This probably rates as one of my favourite rides.

Oh no! what did I do to deserve seeing 'Nick' again!!
AAARRGGHH!! What a good Mother I am!
The girls were desperate to be picked for either a game or to be slimed at the end so we had to sit through the tour etc to get to the game bit. Finally the guy hosting the games section of the tour chose the child to be slimed and called for a girl in the back row sitting right next to Laura. Unfortunately Laura thought he had pointed to HER so she ran down the stairs to the front, not seeing my frantic waving to warn her. Her little face just dropped when the guy said she'd made a mistake and I really felt for her. She sat down in the front and didn't want to join in a game when one of the assistants picked helpers. Right at the end when the parents collect their kids, she came over to me and just BURST into tears. She'd been so embarrassed but had held back the tears until she got to me! I could have cried myself! Lots of cuddles later we headed back out to try to find Shaun.
Note here: both times we went to see 'Nick' , they chose a kid around 9/10 years old - so this may be a guideline. You may want to warn your younger kids not to get disappointed!
We did MIB a couple more times then back to CBR for a swim and freshen up.
Out we go again and it's back to Sizzler for their dinner buffet. Now this is really good and enough to satisfy even the pickiest eaters.
Just for a change tonight we went to Pirates Cove mini golf. This is sooo much better and atmospheric at night-time. It's not cheap at $32 for all of us, but what the heck? We had really enjoyed this last time in Orlando, but we'd forgotten just how much!
Would you believe that Alexandra started with a hole-in-one on the first hole? This was a sign of things to come as she managed to beat us all hands down!
Back to the CBR and the toys all arranged in wagon-train type circle complete with another note from the maids - cute!
I went off to do some laundry and I get dragged into a conversation with a woman about lost socks!
This was really surreal as I had no idea of what she was talking about? I'm sure I've seen this in an episode of "The Twilight Zone". She even had me looking in all of the dryers and washers for a lost sock that I hadn't even seen! Several conspiracy theories later she admitted defeat and left, although I'm sure she thought that I had stolen it!
I sped quickly, but not guiltily back to sanctuary and went to sleep hoping it was not going to be a full moon!
Tomorrow: BB, Poly , Chilies, kiss goodnight.
