4-night vs. 7-night

OK, I was all settled for the 4-night Wonder in Oct. '06 when my DH tells me that he would rather go on a 7-night cruise. Now, he's been on a couple of cruises before, I just went on my 1st 3-night cruise this past June with DH and no kids. My two DS will be 10 and 7 when we plan on going on this cruise.

My question is...and don't hit me too hard...do you think it will be too much for the boys to be on the ship for 7-nights for their 1st cruise and will they be bored?

Any of you veterans out there have any words of wisdom for this confused Tigger?

No, they will not be bored at all... they will have such a great time with the other kids in the lab/club and on the sport deck et al...

My DD’s were 7 & 9 on our first cruise (7-day, Magic) and they loved it. We’ve gone twice a year since then (3 years now) and they still love it, don’t want to leave, and always look forward to going again.

We’ve never done the 3 or 4 day cruises, but we want to because our DDs want to spend a day at Atlantis, and a cruise is cheaper than flying over there and staying in the hotel. But I wouldn't consider that a vacation as much as a quick getaway.

Another thought: “It’s not a vacation if you always know what day it is”. On the 7-day there will be times you won’t know, and won’t care what day of the week it is.

That is so very true! I knew that it was going to be a great vacation when I started talking to DIS friends on Sunday about DH going snorkling the next day in St. Maarten & they had to tell me that we would be at sea the next day. It is great to lose track of time. Just let me keep the dinners straight so I know when we need to dress up.

Thanks. That helps. Guess I have to get another quote from DU for the 7-nighter. I'm leaning towards the Western Cruise. Any pros and cons on that? It just looks like too much time between ports on the Eastern. What's your take on it?

on the 4, just about the time you start to have favorite routines, locations, foods, activities...you have to have your luggage packed and outside your door by 11 pm. On the 7...ahhhhh.....

DS loved both the 4 and the 7. a 10 year old and a 7 year old should have a great time and never be bored--only possible caveat is that unless 7 will be w/i a month of turning 8, he will be in the club and 10 will be in the lab, not together.

Do the big one--3 is too short, and the 4 eats away the entire workweek except friday anyway....

Logan 1_2000: You think just like my husband. OK...you talked me into it. Is there gambling on the 7 night? hahahaha We're talking about Disney!!!!

I just did some research and looks like AllSeasons has the best price. I haven't received my quote from DU yet. Now the dilema of which cabin to get now. Spring for the Family stateroom (Category 4) or just get the Category 6 with verandah? For the 4 night it was easy. Not spending too much time in there, but with the 7 night, we might need more room. OH the brain hurts from all this thinking.

Don't bother with the Cat. 4... the extra 3 feet (or so) isn't a big benefit for the money. We did the 7-day Western this summer, in a Category 4, with 2 15-yr olds. In 2006, we're getting 2 connecting Cat 6 for only a little money than the 4. With the age of your kids, the normal sized veranda cabins will be more than adequate.

Given the OP's dilemma, I'm curious to know what the DIS veterans think about doing back-to-back cruises. This would provide two CC days, but how would the pricing compare to a 7-day, and do you get to stay on the ship between cruises and with the same room, same waiters, etc.?

Do the 7 night. They will love it. We did 2 7 nights and just did the 10 night and we still wished it was longer. It goes by to fast. My dad and I are doing a low budget father son trip on the wonder in november for 3 nights. I am hoping I wont be dissapointed with it being to short. I am sure though it will still be a fun 3 nights!
