Well here goes our dining reviews after a week at Disney.
"we" are
dh- give him a beer and he's happy even happier if it is a Dark Beer.
Me- glowtini girl but also a seafood snob
ds(14)- ordering adult this time-
dd(10) trying to order off kids menu all the time
ds(5) the adventerous eater of the group.
ds(3) If it is served with Fries he'll eat it.

Now after reading and reading various reviews our plans for meals changed considerably. We go to Disney about once a year and I thought we had tried it all but alas I was wrong. We had some STANDOUTS and some disappointments- but all in all a GREAT dining trip albeit $$$$$$(should have done the dining plan!!)

Day one Arrival day=
CALIFORNIA GRILL oh la la. First time going here and was nervous about taking the kids but boy was I wrong. There were kids all over the place here. Oh that view!! Just spectacular. I would go for the view alone.

But the food- To start DH had the sushi- and I had the lobster bisque with crab. The sushi(the spicy ones) was HUGE! That alone could have been a meal. DH gave it 2 big thumbs up(until a later meal that really won him over on the sushi...stay tuned for that one) My soup was heavenly- pieces of crab in a delicious creamy base. Loved it.
Then for meals- I had YELLLOWTAIL HAMACHI- and for the life of me I can't recall what else was with it- I think maybe risotto? and definately mushrooms-(which I LOVE) this was to DIE FOR! It was fantastically cooked and delicious to the nth degree. I had never had hamachi before but loved the taste and texture of this one. I will search it out on menus from now on. Trust me try the Hamachi!!! and the plate was gorgeous. A work of art. (boy a picture would be good here but alas I forgot my camera at home and have no photos.)

DH had Brioche crusted Halibut and devoured every bite and liked it very much - although he liked my hamachi more- I gave him one tiny bite

DS(14) had a steak and loved it- BEEF will be a theme for him this trip. When in doubt get the steak. And this was cooked perfectly.

DD- ordered off the children's menu and got the grilled chicken with roasted potatoes and to my surprise ate it all!(the picky one)

The 2 little guys both got mac and cheese and hated it- too cheesy for their delicate palates. Of course they were full from the Goldfish crackers that they bring out for the kids. So they didn't eat much on this meal. But were thrilled with the view.

We also had a delicious but expensive bottle of wine- Bringing the total for the bill to a whopping $300!!!:scared1: But I would do it again. And this place DID add in the 18% tip into the bill. (I found this annoying as some did some didn't so you really had to be sober when checking out your bill) And since our waiter was excellent we added to that 18% to get him over 20%. YUMMY YUMMY YUMMY. And if you have not gone go for the VIEW alone. I can't imagine it with fireworks it must be heaven. A perfect first night meal place! This is top three of the trip!!

Great review. But question: what time were you seated? I ask because you say the view was awesome...when we were there in May 2008, they had the blinds closed! They're light-filtering, so you could sort-of see through them (If you squinted really hard:headache: ) When we asked about why they weren't open, the waiter told us they do not open them until near sunset:cool2: What's the point of a window table if you have no view!:upsidedow

lol yes they had those blinds but it was at around 5:30 and they were half up and by the end of our meal they had gone all up- I'm imagining at 8 -9 fireworks must be beautiful. And we went out onto the observation decks just to enjoy the view for a while. It was lovely.

I'm in popcorn:: My kids keep adding more signature dining to our plans each trip :goodvibes

good review - like it when there's lot of detail and description!

 Yippee readers!!!

OK DAY 2- (a little trip backround- we originally had this planned as our hollywood studio day but then discovered that yesterday- day one was star wars weekend- so we went yesterday and then again today because of the sci fi!! )
Yes I said SCI FI my kids favorite place to eat. BIG Disappointment in that the Reuben is now gone from the menu!! Boo hoo......
So instead it was cheeseburgers all around- Medium Rare and they came PERFECTLY cooked. Our waitress was hilarious. She played it up big to the point of bringing out gloves and a sponge for my oldest to wash the cars to pay for the bill!!:lmao: Love this place for the "atmoshere" and the food was what it was- burgers and fries fine. And I know we'll be back because the kids love it "it creeps it crawls .......beware of the blob"

Onto dinner
Spoodles Way more casual than I remembered- but whatever.
We started with the Calamari and it was just eh- We fancy ourselves calamari connosiuers. This was done with a good cornmeal coating (I am guessing) but it tasted like that and that was good- but the calamari committed the cardinal sin of calamari prep- it was chewey- overcooked!!!:scared1: This was what my 14 year old had for diner. (and he ate it and declared it ok not the greatest)In fact of all the calamari we had throughout the trip this one fared the worst.
Now onto our meals
I ordered the Pressed Chicken with vegetable ragu- But more importantly the first of my GLOWTINIs!!! YUMMY that is one tastey drink. It's a little party in a glass! My meal was kind of sitting in a tomato soupy base with veggies. It was good. But I didn't get to eat it.
Why? because dh hated what he picked- The shrimp linguini. So I traded. And honestly I thought the Shrimp linguini was pretty good. The shrimp were also overcooked-but the sauce was good and all in all I liked it. Not great but not the disaster that my dh thought it was. And he ate all of my chicken.

Now in fairness to the restaurant when our waiter realized I was eating the shrimp he asked if I didn't like my chicken and I could order something else- but I pointed out that I thought that was fine it was my DH that had the issue but all was good now.
The kids all had the Pizza and it was a hit with all of them.

Now not many desserts were had on this trip because we were staying concierge and could get freebies from the lounge! (oh yummy yummy brownies and tarts from the boardwalk bakery) So I can't judge those from here.

Would we go back? Probably not. It wasn't great just good. The place itself was very family friendly though so we might try it again. and the location was great for us since we were staying at the Boardwalk.

Up next Tutto Italia (and yes we had the calamari again- was it good??? You'll have to wait and see)

We used to love Spoodles, and it was always our 1st night tradition. Ever since they changed the menu a few years ago (no more scallops :sad1: ) we haven't liked it as much and finally stopped going. After hearing your review, I think we'll continue to skip it for awhile longer :rolleyes1

Looking forward to hearing about Tutto, we haven't tried it yet.

Great reviews! We're going to CA Grill this Saturday at 5:30... we're pretty short so maybe a half open window will be a full view for us... :lmao:

Being "calamari connosiuers", have you tried Flying Fish? It's the best I've had anywhere.:thumbsup2

Sorry you didn't have a great experience at Spoodles, it's one of our favorite places in all of WDW. We especially love the appetizers and the Sangria.:goodvibes

Can't wait for your next review. We're trying Tutto Italia for the first time in two weeks.

I have a ADR at Spoodles in October. We've never tried it before.

More reviews - more reviews - please?

Ah TUTTO ITALIA!!
Well I started with a cute little belini. It was delicious. (I really am not a big drinker but for some reason in Disney I need a little drink before dinner-)And then guess what we had for appetizer? anyone?????

Yep the Calamari and it was FANTASTIC!! Perfectly cooked- great spicy sauce to dip and not chewy in the least. ding ding ding we have a winner!!! This got our top calamari vote for the trip. So if you are into it- get it HERE!

Oh and I should take this as an opportunity to add that the service is great. Really attentive almost to the point of flirting and I'll take it where I can get it.
With my meal my new boyfriend- um I mean the waiter suggested a red wine that was delish.

My meal was the Bucatini Gratinati and it was yummy creamy and filling. A heavy meal but just the right amount of it. MMM not overkill with the peas either which will come up in a later meal we had.......It was a delicious blend and again my boyfriend waiter picked it out! 2 thumbs up for that one!

DH had Pollo Al Mattone- (it worked for him yesterday so he thought he'd stick with the chicken) And he loved it. I tried it too- it was juicy and good- just not what I would pick going here- go for the pasta! Mine was better imho. But dh really enjoyed this as did my son who got the same thing.

And the kids went 2 pizzas- which they enjoyed and one pasta with butter and parm cheese, which my son(3) can eat every single day. So they all enjoyed it too.
Oops I forgot about the bread- mmm good, warm and olive oil to dip in.

We were fans of Alfredo- but I have to say this is Better! The service really is top notch and in talking with our boyfriend waiter it seems that it will close in about a month? for the redo? is that right - who knows I was drunk- but it is closing sometime for a little renovation- and only the top servers will stay! So the attitude of the old alfredo is gone- you get flirty sunshiney personality here now. (Oh but no singing and no napkin twirling which is fine by me!)
This will be a must do and is in the top 3 of the trip! (our favorite is yet to come!!!....what will it be????? and it surprised us and was a last minute addition)
Up next Yak and Yeti and Ragland Road- or is it????? Nope this day plans were turned upside down- more to come.

Thank you - I'm so exicted to try Tutto Italia!

I'm with you - Italian restaurant = pasta!

You must be my twin sister separated at birth (again and again) - I like to have a drink with my meals at Disney, although I really drink at home. I love to try the different drinks - right now my favorite is a sunken treasure.

DH is a calamari lover also so I'll definitely tell him about your great review at Tutto Italia.

I'm starting to rethink our October spoodles reservation.

Can't wait to hear more. Hope you went to Ragland Road - my three older ds and my mom (turning 80) have an ADR there. We're Irish (and one ds visited Ireland - on St. Patrick's Day no less- when he was in London for his study abroad) so they can't wait to try this restaurant.

Waiting patiently for the rest of the reviews! Glad you're back.

Thanks for your reviews, really enjoying them. And I also can't wait to try tutto on our next trip, it seems to be getting a lot of good reviews lately.

Enjoying your reviews! Love drinking at Disney too, well, to be honest, love drinking anywhere but Disney drinks are just extra special!!:rotfl:
