Ok- with the new guidelines at least I can get juice boxes in the secure area to bring onboard... but I have been collecting "plane" activities for a few months and I can't bring : the Color Wonder sets, the playdoh, the invisible marker books, etc. My question is (other than the gameboys and Disney mixstix)- do you guys have any other activities / toys I can get in the next few days for the ride?
Thanks for any help and advice!

They prohibit writing devices now?

what is bad about the choices of what you are bringing?

We have the good ol' fashioned DVD player.

I do bring books for them to read sometimes..but not really a whole lot of toys b/c they drop things a lot and I can't pick them up all the time.

I have to think quick. We have an 8 hour flight coming up....and on the way out it is a daytime flight. (the return flight is a red eye--so the activity is bedtime :)).

what about having them help work on a mini-scrapbook? bring disney coloring pages/construction paper with disney stickersstencils , and let each child do their own page. maybe, if you're super good, copy the same page for each kid...maybe with a big mickey head in the middle, and a question you can help each kid answer in each corner, like:

the 1st thing i want to do when we get to disney is:

my favorite thing to do at the airport is:

the funniest thing that happened today was:

etc...it would be fun to look back at memories, and you can spend some special time with whichever child is bored to work on it. they can also color, etc on their own. just a thought! :thumbsup2 good luck!

how about colored pencils and coloring books?

not sure of your children's ages but how about word search books, or some where they find the hidden pictures, I spy books, sudoko book for older kids, just paper for the kids to draw on or play tic-tac-toe.

paper dolls for girls?

Have a great trip :Pinkbounc

I am pretty sure you can bring color wonder or the invisible ink sets and electronics. FWIW I would not bring playdoh on the aircraft because of the mess and the smell anyway.

but...if you post the ages of the kids I am sure you will get more great ideas.

My kids love stickers and sticker books, regular coloring books, blank paper and crayons or colored pencils. My yougest once played with a roll of scotch tape for an entire 2 hour flight. If you have gameboy definately bring that and maybe a new game if its in the budget. Pipe cleaners or wicki sticks are lots of fun, we make puppets and then do a story with them. Paper dolls or colorforms, I leave the boxes home and just pack the contents.

If you have access to a portable DVD player or can view dvd movies on a laptop that IMHO is a lifesaver.

I also bring fun snacks to take up time, starburst or gummy snacks are good because they help with the ears and also act as entertainment as my dd's don't get those at home.

I travel quite often and I don't ever remember seeing juice boxes at the shops in the terminals. I would definately bring sippie cups or sport type bottles just in case. Just bring them empty and then if you can only find regular juice/water etc you can just use them to fill up the cups you bring.

We flew in August and we were allowed to have color wonder. We also took stickers, game boys, v-smile, tablets & twistable crayons and travel tic tac toe.

Does anyone know if Crayola Explosions are allowed? The mini pads in black that you scratch off w/ a plastic pen to reveal colors under the black layer? They are sealed in package? Just curious....Also, crayons?

Chewy candy sounds like a good idea for the little ears!

They should be fine -

I am not sure why some are so worried about crayons and coloring activites onboard?

The most recent restrictions covered liquids, aerosols, and gels and have recently been relaxed.

Here is a link to the TSA website with the most recent release as well as a comprehsive list of what you can and can't bring through security. Its a good idea to check this website prior to your departure for updates.

No advice, but I will be praying for you.

You should be able to bring the invisible marker books - I brought a couple of those for DD on our Aug flight to MCO. I packed her a little carryon bag with those books, some sticker books and some of her Polly Pockets toys (we have so many it doesn't matter if any got lost. I was hoping some would get lost! :rotfl2: ).

On the way home she was so tired she slept!

Have a fun trip! :goodvibes

Do you think pipe cleaners would be allowed? We took a bag of them to a minor league baseball game and they kept DD and another little girl in our section entertained for almost 3 hours. They made all kinds of things with them. The best part is no mess :teeth: ,

How about some drugs to get the kids to sleep??? ;) I bet the people around you will love that one.

That is "perverse", not "perver t BTW.

I travel a lot for business, and I more or less find it boring, brain numbing, and dulldulldull. I actually enjoy a good old fashioned kid tantrum on board. I am sorry that the child is unhappy, but hey--it livens things up. Plus everyone gets so torqued it is most amusing--I just want to say PEOPLE! Don't you remember what it was like to be three? And do NOT tell me you are actually, really, authentically annoyed with a 6 month old infant, or I will dump my glass of wine in your pompous...

lap. ;)

I'm the lady that will let your toddler kick my seat for five hours without getting bothered (strangely hypnotic: thump...thump...thumpthump...thump...) and that will teach your ten year old to play spider solitaire on my laptop over the Atlantic ocean so you can finally get a little rest. Or maybe 5 card draw, one-eyed jacks wild. :smokin:

For what it is worth, I like the scrapbook/memory book idea, but my kids (now grown) would have doubtless been too wound up to be that industrious on a flight. "Aw, mom, that's like school!" (Heaven forbid!)

Good luck!

I'm the lady with the bad back and fibro who PRAYS you will not be seated behind me. You have no idea the torture inflicted by a 3 yo who keeps kicking the seat. You can forgive an antsy 3 yo - but not poor and inconsiderate parenting.

Flew in last week from Vegas in front of two related couples with two children each. None of them, kids or adults, stayed in their seat or kept quiet for the span of 3 minutes, during the entire 5 hour flight.

Early in the flight I tried to engage and distract, I'm a grandma after all. Unfortunately, it wasn't long before I had to switch focus to self preservation and survival.

When my dd's were at the potential kicking age we took their shoes and either dh or I would sit in front of them. Problem solved!

Oh I like you...you are one in a million. The world needs more people like you! :)

Vodka. Lots of it. For you.

When I travelled with my son when he was young, I put together a bag of new stuff he never saw until we got on the plane. Playmobil (and even lego, if there's not too many pieces) makes some cute little sets of toys they have to put together.

You didn't give the age of your kids, but there's lots of great coloring pages and activities online (mazes, wordsearches, etc.). You can even make your own with http://puzzlemaker.school.discovery.com/ using Disney words, etc.

Best wishes for a non-delayed flight!

Take absolutely nothing!! My kids never like the stuff I take along, they only like the overpriced stuff purchased at the airport. So now I just take a little extra money and let them purchase stuff at the airport. Besides it kills the time in the airport. It seemed like whenever I took stuff for them to play with, I just ended up lugging it through the airport, then they dropped it under the seats and I ended up having to find it.

So it's better to take about $20 for each kid and let them get what they want in the airport. :thumbsup2
